Toggle Content - Included Block Level Stuff To Be Hidden
May 11, 2011
I'm looking for some javascript that'll toggle hidden content. As I'm not experienced in this, I want something which is cross-browser reliable - and I'm having trouble finding something suitable. Jquery has been suggested as an option... and I found something which appeared to do the job, apart from not validating as it uses a span to include the toggled content - which is a problem as I need to included block level stuff to be hidden. Also, it came as two buttons - show and hide - and I'd prefer a single button, or preferably a normal html link.

Specifically, assume I have a div tag of absolute dimensions. I need
to figure out, first, whether or not the text inside the div tag is
partially hidden by the overflow setting, and if so, what the hidden
text is.
Is this even possible? Obviously, the rendering engine in the browser
"knows" this information, but is it accessible through Javascript?

First of all, I'm an absolute newb in jQuery. My problem: I have let's say 3 square div's. Beneath these div's are 3 hidden div's, but they are on the same place in the layout. If one of the top div's gets hovered the corresponding bottom div should display, while the rest should hide. And if you move your mouse out of one of those 3 top divs, while not hovering over another, the correspondingbottom div should not change but just stay visible. I searched a while on the internet, but have not yet found anything that fits my needs or for which I have the skills to adjust it.

here is my scenario:
I have a link and a div on a webpage. With the link I want to toggle the content (HTML) of the div. On toggle, I want to load the content from a PHP-file and I want it to load on the toggle, not when the webpage originally loaded (to reduce loading time on the webpage itself).
The file that is loaded on toggle doesn't have to be PHP, but it would help a lot.

I have a windows media file that I want to play on a webpage but the stupid activex content blocker keeps on poping up. I have heard that there is a way of getting around this or to preload the content. Does anyone know how to do this?

I use a small piece of JS code to make different elements on the page show/hide when clicking a link, based on id:
function toggle( targetId ){
if (document.getElementById){
target = document.getElementById( targetId );
if (target.style.display == "none"){
target.style.display = "";
} else {
target.style.display = "none";
}
}
}
Then HTML looks like this:
<a href="#" onClick="toggle('news'); return false;">Show/hide news</a>
<div id="news" style="display:none">BlahBlahBlah</div>
This works. Initially the element is hidden (with style="display:none" property of the element), and the script gets its id and changes its display property to "block" when clicking on a link.
But when Javascript in a browser is turned off, the elements to show are all hidden, and there's no way to see the content of the element.
My question: is there a way to hide toggled elements on page load with JS, so that when it's turned off the hidden content is shown?

I have created a page using collapsible divs through a simple javascript toggle. This is the javascript:
Code:
<script language="javascript">
function getItem(id)
{
[Code]....
This page is a class listing and each toggle bar is a class category. What I want to do is be able to link from another page to the class page, but to a specific class listing within the hidden div section.
The actual page is: [URL]
note that I am working within the confines of a content management system.
I need something like: go to the page, do the toggle function to show the div, then find a page anchor to locate the correct class.

I've got rows of divs in this manner
<div class="row">This is row 1 <a href="click">click here to show more</a></div>
<div class="hidden row"><p> hidden text for row 1</p></div>
<div class="row">This is row 2 <a href="click">click here to show more</a></div>
<div class="hidden row"><p> hidden text for row 2</p></div>
<div class="row">This is row 3 <a href="click">click here to show more</a></div>
<div class="hidden row"><p> hidden text for row 3</p></div>
<div class="row">This is row 4 <a href="click">click here to show more</a></div>
<div class="hidden row"><p> hidden text for row 4</p></div>
I wish to have some javascript to toggle the hidden row for its corresponding link.

I am using the toggle function to hide and show a div. Is there any way I can get the div to be hidden on the page load, and then when when toggle is called, it will show it (since it would be currently hidden).
The way I toggle works for me so far, the div is visible as default, and then once the toggle is activated, it is hidden. I want it to be the opposite.

Most Jquery I have seen 'pushes' the content above or below it up or down the page as it reveals the hidden content, the above example reveals the content over the top without pushing out any other content which is what I am looking for I have tried to take the code and everything works aside from those tabs!! I was hoping somebody has a link to another site that does the same effect

Im modifying some open source code and in this instance I would like to write some data to a file (possibly for the user to download). In this code the user can toggle the hidden exportData to be shown on the webpage. However, I would like to give the option of downloading/saving the data as a file (only the exportData which I believe is the document.getElementById("path")). I have tried various tricks found online, but have yet to produce the hoped for result.

I've been trying to build my website so that the user first starts at the home page. Whenever the user clicks on the horizontal menu/navigation bar, the new content would push the home page content down. Clicking on another menu/navigation item would also push everything down and display the new content above it. I've been researching and figured i'd have to use jquery toggle. I've looked at multiple guides, and the one at
[URL]
is like what i'm trying to do. However, I can't figure out how to toggle from a horizontal navigation/menu bar instead of using HEADERS like in the example link. I don't want to toggle content with the clickable toggle button stacked vertically. (Example: Toggle button --> Content --->Toggle Button----> Content)

I was wondering if anyone knows how you would create a link when clicked will change the width of the content.
I have a feeling this will use jQuery?
E.g.
A link saying 'expand' will change the width of the body to 1000px and change the link to 'contract'.
When the link 'contract' is clicked it will change the width back to 800px and change the link to 'expand'

It toggles perfectly, but I would like to make to which appears to overlap the underlaying content div below. Right now it just pushes down the content div when sliding out.

I am using the following code to hide a <tr>. The script does its job, however before hiding the <tr>, when the cookie is set to true the hidden content flickers for half a second before being hidden. Is there something I am doing wrong or is the problem in style.display="none";?
function ShowHide(DivId)
{
var DivId=document.getElementById(DivId);
if(document.form3.showhide.checked==false)
{
DivId.style.display = "inline";
createCookie("showhide","");
}
else
{
DivId.style.display="none";
createCookie("showhide","true");
}}

1) I have a series of divs embedded into a page, sort of like an FAQ setup. Each has a unique id like id="service1" etc.
2) i'm using an unordered list with each li being a hyperlink to the div id's
3) the div's are set up as name anchors ( <a name="service1">Service One</a. ) so I can hyperlink to them via the <a href="#service1">Service One</a> method
4) There's 22 divs and they need to be hidden until summoned. Therefore, I set $('.service').hide(); to make them all disappear.
Now, where i'm stuck is in how to summon them individually and have them appear when the appropriate list hyperlink is clicked. I'm using:
$('.servicelist a').click(function() {
var toLoad = $(this).attr('href');
}
So it's telling it to load the info found at the appropriate link. This is where i'm stuck. I need help on
1) how to 'unhide' the proper div id containing the related data
2) how to point it to the right location in the page (target div)

The content of my webpage is all contained in hidden divs. These divs are shown when a link in the nav bar is clicked. At the moment, ALL divs are hidden on page load, only the nav bar is visible. Is there a way to have one of the divs visable when the page loads? i.e the 'home' page.
function init(){
if(document.getElementById && document.createTextNode){
var mn=document.getElementById('nav');
var as=mn.getElementsByTagName('a');
for (var i=0;i<as.length;i++){
as[i]. false}
as[i]. false}
}
hidem();
}}
function show(l){
hidem();
var id=l.href.match(/#(w.+)/)[1];
document.getElementById(id).style.display='block'
}
function hidem(){
for (var i=0;i<document.getElementsByTagName('div').length;i++){
document.getElementsByTagName('div')[i].style.display='none'
}}
The function init() is called on page load.
