Those Full-window "layer" Splash Ads?

Feb 24, 2005

You've probably seen 'em, a top layer ad that loads on first visit; autohides after certain seconds or when you click skip ad. It's actually the same webpage (no forwarding or anything), and the ad just gets hidden probably via the display property.

Open Window Full Size Without Javascript

Jul 23, 2005

Here is what I wish to do:

Click on a PDF link and have it open as a full screen window - not as
a predetermined size.

Sounds simple?

I want to run the command from within the href only. I don't want to
have to create an HTML page for each PDF file.

This is the link.

<a href="pdf-PPT/05_70857_PPT30x80.pdf" target="_blank"
on=0,directories=0,status=1,titlebar=1,menubar=0,s crollbars=0,left=0,top=0,screenX=0,screenY=0');

Full-screen Window Created Has Scroll Bar

Oct 21, 2010

I'm creating a full-screen window in javascript. I"m not interested in debating whether or not a full-screen window is good or not, or any of the other philosophical diarrhea, I just need an answer to getting rid of the scroll bar... Trust me, in this case it NEEDS to be full-screen and it SHOULD NOT have any scrollbars. This is being done on a PC running Windows 7, 64-bit, IE 8, and EVERYTHING is up-to-date. The window gets created fine, but there's an empty scroll bar on the right side. ALL I want to know is how to get rid of the scroll bar so this works AS STATED IN THE DOCUMENTATION......

Displaying A Series Of Images In Full-screen Window?

Oct 11, 2010

I need to display a set of images. NOT a slideshow that automatically changes, but a very simple display, one image at a time, that moves to next or previous by mouse click or arrow.

I can retrieve the set of filespecs in php with no problem. And I've got the setup in php to display the file, one at a time.

I"ve figured out how to open a full-screen window in javascript.

What I need (I started in php and they sent me over here for specific javascript info), is to put everything together...

1. I'd LIKE to automatically set the resolution on the system to 1024x768. I've been told html and javascript can't do that, so it'll have to be done by the user.

2. I figured out how to open a full-screen window in javascript.

3. What I need is to display the image from php and have it show up in the full-screen window I created. Then it just sits there until the user presses an arrow key (or hopefully something with the mouse) to go to the next (or previous) image. Back to php for the next file and display...

Once the last image in the set is displayed I'd like to have the window I created go away, sending me back to the screen from which all that got started...

So, as far as I know, the two things I need to know are how to display an image in a particular window from php. And, how to get mouse-clicks and/or arrow keys back to php so I can use them....

Free Up Memory In Full-window Slide Show?

May 13, 2010

I'm working on a slide show that can fill the browser window. It has a similar scrolling thumbnail navigation as Flickr, but it is made with JavaScript. So, the big problem is memory usage. To have images that will fill the browser window their sizes are around 100+KB, and there are some slide shows that have over 200+ images.

I have tried removing the images from the DOM, I've tried using Ajax but the JavaScript engine's Garbage Collector seems to do nothing, until I refresh the page.Does anyone have any idea's on keeping the memory usage down?

Popup Window Vertically Resizing To Full Screen?

Mar 29, 2009

I have a small dillemma I'm trying to solve involving javascript and I was curious if anyone here might be able to tell what the issue is. I'm redesigning my portfolio, and I have a page that involves popup windows, which can be seen at www.souledesign.net/final_site3/portfolio_flash.html. When I click on an icon, it pops up a window successfully. However, the height value I have inputted for the window is ignored, and the window automatically sizes itself vertically to the full height of the web browser.

The code that I've placed on the button that pops up the javascript window looks like this:

href="javascript: void(0)"
onclick="window.open('adbanner1.html', 'realestate', 'width=496', 'height=70')"

This should open a simle XHTML document sized to 496x70px, containing a Flash movie that is displayed using swfobject javascript. unfortunately, the window ends up resizing itself to a height that fills up the entire page rather than properly sizing to 70 pixels.

Floating Layer - While Scrolling - The Layer Flickers Continuously

Jan 30, 2009

I have created a floating layer using Javascript that remains always on top of page on scrolling.Issue is,at some point while scrolling, the layer flickers continuously.

The html page is as follows:

Many common software systems, JavaScript has a history of security problems. Many of these problems could allow a person with malevolent intent to steal sensitive information from a visitor. The number and type of such holes in security vary among browsers and operating system versions. Most JavaScript security holes have been caught and fixed, but new ones are being discovered all the time. For a list of current security holes check out your browser's and operating system's Web pages. As a Web site author, it is your responsibility to keep up-to-date on the current status of known security holes in the applications you create.

Signing Scripts. In Chapter 11, I explained that JavaScript does not provide the ability to directly access files on the client computer. This can be a very large hurdle to overcome if you're trying to upload a file to a server from the client computer. Fortunately, file uploading is one of many functional enhancements that signed scripts provide. Signed scripts are specially packaged scripts that have been verified and signed to be correct and non-threatening. These scripts have additional rights on the client computer that allow a programmer to do many things that he wouldn't otherwise be able to.

With the introduction of Netscape 4.0, a new security model was put in place that would allow digitally signed scripts to bypass some of the restrictions that had previously been placed on them. A signed script can request expanded privileges from the visitor and, with the visitor's permission, gain access to restricted data. A signed script requests these additional permissions through LiveConnect, which allows your JavaScript code to communicate with the Java Capabilities API. The security model allows JavaScript to access certain classes in Java in order to extend its functionality while still maintaining tight security for the client.

A digital signature is a fingerprint of the original programmer, and it allows the security model of the browser to detect where (or from whom) it originated. A script signer can be a person or an organization. By signing a script, you acknowledge yourself as the author and accept responsibility for the program's actions. A signed script contains a cryptographic checksum, which is just a special value that ensures the signed script has not been changed. When a digital signature is detected, you are assured that the code has not been tampered with since the programmer signed it.

Once you finish writing a script, you can use the Netscape Signing Tool to digitally sign it. Signing a script does the following:

Unambiguously assigns ownership of the script to a person or organization.

Allows an HTML page to use multiple signed scripts.

Places the signed script into a Java Archive (JAR) file.

Places the source of the script in the JAR file.

Once a user confirms the origin of the script and is assured that it has not been tampered with since its signing, he or she can then decide whether to grant the privileges requested by the script based on the validated identity of the certificate owner and validated integrity of the script.

JAVASCRIPT FILE IS AS FOLLOWS:

AND CSS FILE IS AS FOLLOWS:

At some point while scrolling, the div 'movable' flickers continuously, while at some other point,it is perfectly stable.

JQuery :: Keeping Full Width Slideshow Centered On Window Resize

Aug 9, 2011

I have a site that I'm building at [URL] which use the jquery cycle plugin for a slideshow. I won't post the code here because it's all there with view source at the above address. It's a work in progress. The slideshow is full width (the images in it are actually 2000px wide but looks full width), and works fine apart from when the browser window is resized. This is most noticable when you start with a smaller browser window and then resize it to be bigger.

The slides stay the same width as when the page loaded - I need them to adapt to the new width. I need the slideshow to be centered at all widths, so I've put the images in as backgrounds to divs with center positioning on them. I've tried getting the window width on resize and then applying it to the slides using jQuery, but the original calculated size overrides it when the slide changes.

JQuery :: Basic Page Loading DIV - Full Window DIV That Sits Above All The Content With A Loading Icon

I have a site that is very jQuery and image heavy. The main sections of the site link to sections that are built with several Tabs, and as it loads, you briefly see all the content load and then it is hidden by the Tabs code.

The plan is to have a full window DIV that sits above all the content with a loading icon that plays until the entire page loads, and then it fades down.

After some hair pulling and research I have code in place that does exactly as I ask, however it does not seem to work in IE6+7. It works in all other browsers.

The current code is:

CSS for the loading DIV is:
