Show Hide Layer In Firefox/mozilla??
Aug 6, 2005
Found a simple script to show and hide layers. Using this to have an ad with 60px height and onMouseOver 350px
function adtechhideElement(elmID)
{
for (i = 0; i < document.all.tags(elmID).length; i++)
{
obj = document.all.tags(elmID)[i];
if (! obj || ! obj.offsetParent) continue;
obj.style.visibility = "hidden";
}
}
function adtechshowElement(elmID)
{
for (i = 0; i < document.all.tags(elmID).length; i++)
{
obj = document.all.tags(elmID)[i];
if (! obj || ! obj.offsetParent) continue;
obj.style.visibility = "";
}
}
but the thing is this doesn't work in firefox/mozilla.
Where should I alter this to get it working in firefox?

I'm looking to show/hide a layer in a 5 second rotation.
IE: For 5 seconds the layer is shown, then the next 5 seconds it is hidden, the next 5 seconds it is shown, the next 5 seconds it is hidden... {ad nauseum} - you get the idea.
How could I accomplish this with JavaScript? The layer id="overlay"

I'm using the scroll function with a layer containing a graphic that sits over the slider on the y axis. This works fine in IE but overhangs the lower scrollbar arrow in Netscape, Firefox and Opera, killing its functionality, so I'd like to hide it in these browsers.
Could someone show me the best way to work a function that says (taking the layer ID as 'Bar')
IF browser = IE
THEN 'Bar' = visible
or (better?)
IF browser <> IE
THEN 'Bar' = hidden
And how should I allow this to behave in Safari?

I am trying to develop an exam system.Find my code below.I request you to copy the code and save it as an html file .I have 2 problems:
1. Kindly notice that when the quiz is loaded,it shows both the questions by default.I want only question 1 to be visible when the quiz loads.What happens presently is that ,both questions are visible even after I click on the link
Q.1( referring to question 1).However,when I click on
Q. 2,then only question 2 can be seen and then(after clicking on Q.2) if I click on Q.1,then only question 1 can be seen
What I want is that when the page loads only question 1 is visible.Then when I click on Q.2,I can see only question 2 and when I click on Q.1, I can see only question 1.I later plan on adding many questions,so it should be a general solution rather than a solution good only for 2 questions.
2.Also,what I want is that,if someone selects any of the answers of a particular question,it's link color should turn green to indicate to the user that he answered that question.So for,instance,if I select an answer to the first question(select one of London,New York,Seattle,Washington,Chicago), the link Q.1 should turn green.

It works great in NS and IE but when I try it in mozilla(firebird) it won't work. Any have a code I could use or know of a resource where I can get one.

For me one of the best things about jQuery is that I don't have to worry about browser compatiblity.I wrote some code to extend an excisting jQuery application (Galleria) and only tested it in FireFox. I split a long list with thumbs in several blocks: deel0, deel1, deel2 etc. After that I hide every block except the first one. If the visitor clicks on "Next serie" I hide the first block and show the second. All seemed to go well until I tested the page in IE6. The jQuery effects "hide" and "show" work fine in FireFox but not in IE6. When I click on "Next serie" the next block of thumbs don't show.

I found the toggle function (shown below) and applied it to a form of mine.
It works fine in IE, but in Firefox it appears to fail on the eval lines.
I've searched around but I can't seem to find the correct invocation to get
the field to appear in Firefox.
I've copied below the call and the html of the field itself.

In IE, Safari, Chrome, and Opera (to an extent, still some bugs to work out there) the search suggestions show when you type in the box, and hide when you click away from the box, then re-appear when you click in the search box. In Firefox, however, the suggestions still show even when you click away from the box. I can't really figure out why it's happening, I've tried setting the CSS properties for both visibility and display, but neither worked. Here's the code for that part:
Code:
<input type="text" name="search" value="Search Cheezonastick" id="searchbox" onClick="this.value=''; this.style.color='#000000'; search_suggest.style.display='inline';" onBlur="this.value='Search Cheezonastick'; this.style.color='#666666'; [code]...

I built a dynamic ajax suggest engine, and you would think I could
figure this out, but I am having a brain cramp. When I don't have any
characters in the search box, it shows a little blip of the layer
where the suggestion results go...
How do I make this go away? Something along the lines of
if ( document.getElementById('txtSearch').length == 0){
thelayer.style.display=(thelayer.style.display=="none");
}???

I have tried several things, using several Javascript books, but can't get
this to work in Netscape (latest version) and Firefox (latest v.). It works
in MIE and Opera fine. A box (defined by a css layer) is supposed to pop
out to the right when the corresponding box on the far left is moused over.
The first function defines a layer id to the next function which pops out
the box. After debugging in Venkman, it looks like the first function
cannot define the layer id properly to the second function, which actually
slides the box (layer) to the right.
I thought that the getElementById function was supposed to work for Firefox,
but I must be using it wrong(???)
To see how it's supposed to work, view the following page in MIE or Opera:

Below code creates a tabbed navigation. Works well. But how do I set it up so Tab 1 shows when the page is loaded?
Code:

I want the hidden layer to open when the visitor clicks and stay open until they click the close x. I can get the hidden layer to show onMouseover, but not onclick.
Code:
<script type="text/javascript"> // Copyright 2006-2007 javascript-array.com var timeout= 500; var closetimer= 0; var ddmenuitem= 0; // open hidden layer function mopen(id) { // get new layer and show it ddmenuitem = document.getElementById(id);
[Code]....
I find script that does something similar and adapt it to do what I need it to do. Usually, I can work it out on my own - but I have been working on this for several days now.

I'm trying to create a control which when the mouse button gets
pressed on one div an absolute positioned div pops up in
place of the cursor. From there the cursor should interact with
the dialog before the mouse button is released. In other words
one element will catch onmousedown, display the popup, and
the popup element will catch onmouseup. This works fine in
IE as the popup automatically accepts following events,
but my problem is in Firefox.
In Firefox everything behind the popup
still receive events even though they can't be seen
(hidden by the popup). I have to release the mouse button and then
click on the popup again before it accepts the onmouseup event.
I also used a different cursor on the popup to see if Firefox
recognized it was there at all. Still the cursor doesn't change
until I release themouse button and move the cursor across
the popup element.
I've tried focus/blur, timeout delays, hiding the first element
(the one which receives onmousedown) but nothing works.
The only thing that works is hiding the entire body and then
using setTimeout to show the entire body again 1ms later.
Obviously though that is very ugly.

I just want to hide the button in Mozilla and keep the rest of the things in tact. Here is the script:
<!--[if IE]>
<button onClick="this.style.behavior='url(#default#homepage)'; this.setHomePage('[URL]');">Make X Your Home Page</button>
<![endif]>
This works fine in IE but in Mozilla, it takes away some of the content following under it such as the news and video. How to hide the button in Mozilla with this code given, keep content in tact and show button in IE?

I have this script in a popup page where the user selects a user ID (id) and
that value is then placed into one of the parent window's form text field called "userId". This script works fine in the latest Mozilla and Mozilla Firefox but not in IE 6. Any help on why this script might not work or a better way of accomplishing this task would be appreciated. Code:
