Sending A Variable To A Js Function - Not Working
Nov 18, 2010
I've been fighting this one for a few months now, and it is causing me to have to create multiple functions that basically do the same thing. I am using the three functions below to replace text between two div tags on a page, based on a link that is clicked:
<td><a href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="htmlData('ajax/loginContent.php', 'view=1','data=2','displayField=txtResult')">Active Jobs</a></td>
";
Then further down the page:
<div id="txtResult">replace this content</div>
For some reason, I CANNOT send the div id name as a js variable. When I do it errors out. BUT if I replace displayField in the js functions below with "txtResult" it works fine.
function GetXmlHttpObject(handler) {
var objXMLHttp=null
if (window.XMLHttpRequest)
{

I'm using a js menu like this:
slideMenu.makeMenu('top','OKP')
slideMenu.makeMenu('sub','Level A','../OKP/KlassementOKP.php?level=A','mainFrame')
slideMenu.makeMenu('sub','Level B','../OKP/KlassementOKP.php?level=B','mainFrame')
As you can see I send the variable level=A to php on next page. What I would like is send another variable for the TOP item: OKP How should I do that ?

I have a page with a form that a user completed. When they hit submit this calls some javascript. This javascript stores some XML in a variable and inserts the values from the form into the correct parts of the XML.
What I need to do is submit this XML or variable to another page. in effect, the use ris submitting the form to generate some XML then i want to send this XML to another page.
here is the code I have so far:
PHP Code:
<html>
<head>
<script>
function thename(){
var username = form1.username.value;
var password = form1.password.value;
var phone = form1.phone.value;
theXML = "<?xml version="1.0"?>
<novo-xml>
<register>
<client-id>test</client-id>
<password>" + username + "</password>
<user-id>" + password + "</user-id>
<phone-num>" + phone + "</phone-num>
<app-id>test</app-id>
<channel>I</channel>
<user-type>upgrade</user-type>
</register>
</novo-xml>";
//I was using this alert to display the XML
//alert(theXML);
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<form name="form1" onsubmit="thename();">
username <input name="username"><p>
password <input name="password"><p>
phone <input name="phone"><p>
<input type="submit" name="submit">
</form>

I'm trying to make a cross domain iframe and want the iframe to dynamic resize the height. I have read that this is not possible, but if I own both domains I thought that I in my cross domian could make an variable which tells the height of the page and then send it via the iFrame to my page. My crossdomain page has a javasacript like this:
Code JavaScript:
var pageHeight = document.getElementById("container").clientHeight;
And my page would get the page like this:
Code HTML4Strict:
<iframe src="mypage.com" width="100%" height="The height from my crossdomain" frameborder="0" scrolling="no">

Using a simple example lets say there is this function in an external script:
Code:
function showmessage(arg){
alert(arg);
}
If we have different scripts eg page1.php, page2.php, page3.php etc
If each one of those scripts calls the function showmessage using different arguments eg page1.php calls it like this :
Code:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
showmessage("page1");
</script>
The above code would have to be embedded into the PHP file.
how can we go about doing that unobtrusively? Ie by not putting the code into the PHP files how can a different argument be passed to that function depending on what page is loaded?

This is related to the pop-up window. Below is the function related to pop-up window.
function openPopUpDetailsMultiple(seqNum ,controllername ) {
if (!popUpDetails||popUpDetails.closed) {
popUpDetails=window.open("GetSCEventAddData?schandle=<!.schandle>&objID=<!.objID>&seqnum="+seqNum+"&controllername="+controllername+,"popUpDetails","toolbar=1,location=0,scrollbars=1,width=600,height=300,resizable=1,left=200,top=200");
}else{
popUpDetails.focus();
popUpDetails.location="GetSCEventAddData?schandle=<!.schandle>&objID=<!.objID>&seqnum=" + seqNum;
} }
The above function is being called in the href link as stated below:
//Draw the event table
document.write("<table border=1 bgcolor=" + contrColor + " cellpadding=3 cellspacing=0 width=750><tr><td width=130 valign=top class=body align=center rowspan=2>" + scEv[i].sceTime + "<br>" + scEv[i].sceDate + "<br>" + scEv[i].sceCntr + "</td><td width=60 valign=top class=body align=center><img src=images/NsaAlarm"+sevIcon+".gif border=0 height=16 width=16 align=middle alt='" + sevText + "'></td><td width=230 valign=top class=body align=center>" + scEv[i].sceCode + "</td><td width=230 valign=top class=body align=center>#" + scEv[i].sceSeq + "</td></tr><tr><td width=620 valign=top class=body colspan=3>" + scEv[i].sceDesc + "<br><table border=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 width=100%><tr><td class=body><a href=javascript:openPopUpCAC('" + scEv[i].sceCAC + "')><img src=images/NsaTools.gif border=0 height=16 width=16 align=middle alt='View corrective actions'>Corrective action code: " + scEv[i].sceCAC + "</a></td><td align=right class=body><a href=javascript:openPopUpDetailsMultiple('"+ scEv[i].sceSeq+"''"+ scEv[i].sceCntr +"')><img src=images/NsaMoreDetails.gif border=0 height=16 width=16 align=middle alt='View more details'>More details</a></td></tr></table></td></tr></table>");
The problem I'm facing now is in this piece of code:
><a href=javascript:openPopUpDetailsMultiple('"+ scEv[i].sceSeq+"''"+ scEv[i].sceCntr +"')><img src=images/NsaMoreDetails.gif border=0 height=16 width=16 align=middle alt='View more details'>More details</a></td></tr></table></td></tr></table>");
I do not know how to send these (scEv[i].sceSeq,scEv[i].sceCntr) arguments. What might be the delimiter for these arguments.

I am trying to declare a variable inside a function and use it later on in my code... but it just already returns white space... i.e. not variable value. I am setting it within this function:
function show_video1(){
document.getElementById('video1').style.display="block";
var video1Name = "Education World News (Part 1)";
document.getElementById('video2').style.display="none";
document.getElementById('video3').style.display="none";
document.getElementById('video4').style.display="none";
[Code]...
and trying to call it later on with this: <script type="text/javascript">document.write(video1Name)</script> It might be worth noting that each one of my 11 videos will hace a different name.

So I've got this checkbox thing going on, where an array converted with the value of each checkbox in it.It looks like this:
[Code]...
What I want out of this function is the variable newworkdays to use in another function.
How do I access the "newworkdays" outside the function? I've already try to declare the variable outside of the function, though that resulted in that I didn't get the value of the variable inside the function.

Here is the code:
for (var i = 0; i < BS_crm['activityTypes'].length; i++) {
var clickFunc = function(){ activityList.showForm( -1, {blockType:[""+BS_crm['activityTypes'][i]['id'], "0"]} ); };
var type = {
[Code]....
Now, basically what I am doing here is running through one array to create an array of objects, that will be used to create links that will use whatever onClick function I pass it. The problem is that on the second line I need the BS_crm['activityTypes'][i]['id'] to be a value, not a reference. If that line was simply changed to:
var clickFunc = function(){ activityList.showForm( -1, {blockType:["3", "0"]} ); };

I'm making some changes to a google chrome extension I made and am having some trouble. Heres my code on a content script page (removeAttr.js) :
chrome.extension.sendRequest({greeting: "whitelist"}, function(response) {
var whitelist = response.whitelist;
console.log(response.whitelist);//working
});
alert(whitelist);//alerts "undefined"
How do I acess the whitelist variable from outside the sendrequest() function?
Iv tried saving it to a window.var variable with no luck. Iv tried creating a div and assigning it's innerHTML as the whitelist variable and getting it later with no luck. The fact that it's a chrome extension complicates things because i dont actually know if i can create elements from where the script is located.

I have defined a global variable for a form, but it seems my functions can't access it. The error I get from the Firefox Javascript console tells me that my variable has no properties. Code:
var giftForm = document.forms.uploadGift;
function sendForm() {
giftForm.target = 'main'
giftForm.submit();
window.close();
}
Everything runs without a hitch if I declare the form variable inside the function.
