Resolved Trying To Add Watch Method To IE

Feb 28, 2009

I'm trying to add watch() to IE, and have more or less working code:[code]That works until I try to use setInterval with the code in red color. I never really tried OOP or prototyping in JS, so my whole approach to the problem might be wrong, but anyway, I think that if I execute that code in red every 100ms [for example], I'll be able to catch changes to properties on which the method is registered. Well, either my idea is wrong, or the execution.Some parts are commented out and method name is changed so that I could work in peace in FF.

Watch For Form Element Value Change

Dec 24, 2005

Mozilla-based browsers have watch and unwatch methods to detect change
in value of form elements (or any Javascript variables really). IE
doesn't support this.

Is there a a reliable cross-browser way alternative to this? Something
that will let me detect a change in value for a form element and
trigger my own callback function upon change?

Hopefully, something that is generic enough to be called as
"MyWatch(element)"!

Scan-In: Watch The Page Being Written.

Nov 13, 2003

Here is a simple script to simulate the page being coded as it loads.

Here is the script....

----------------------------------------

<script language="JavaScript">
var x = 2;
var y = 0;
var h = 0;
function LineBy()
{
bodyarray = document.body.innerHTML.split('
');
document.getElementById('mover').style.height = document.body.clientHeight - h;
var currentline = String(bodyarray[x]);
if (currentline.charAt(y) == "<") displayed = "&lt;";
else if (currentline.charAt(y) == '"') displayed = "&quot;";
else (displayed = currentline.charAt(y))
document.getElementById('mover').innerHTML+=displayed;
document.getElementById('mover').style.top = parseInt(document.getElementById('mover').style.top) + 2;
if (y <= currentline.length) {y++;}
else {y=0;x++;document.getElementById('mover').innerHTML="";}
if (parseInt(document.getElementById('mover').style.top) >= (document.body.clientHeight-20)) {document.getElementById('mover').style.visibility="hidden";return;}
h = h + 2;
setTimeout('LineBy()',1);
}
</script>

----------------------------------

Place this inside the body tag.

----------------------------------

onload="LineBy()"

----------------------------------

Then include this DIV inside the body tag.

----------------------------------

<div id="mover" style="font-size:7pt; position:absolute;top:0; background-color:FFFFFF; visibile:hidden; width:100%;z-index:5;height:100%"></div>

Can't Inspect Or Watch Variable In Microsoft Script Debugger.

Oct 3, 2006

I have a javascript program that works fine under Firefox and on IE
when running XP, but is having a problem with IE running under Windows
2000 Pro.

On my personal XP development machine I have the Microsoft Script
Editor and I can set a breakpoint, step through code, inspect
variables, etc... with no problem.

On a machine where I am trying to debug this problem I am running
Windows 2000 Pro with IE 6. I installed the Microsoft Script Debugger.
When the program hits the exception the script debugger will come up
and show me the line where the error occurred.

I need to be able to inspect the variables to determine the problem.
However, from what I can tell, there isn't anywhere to inspect or watch
the variables in MSD?

Public Static Method Accessing Private Method

Aug 3, 2006

I'm trying to do something, but I don't know if it's possible.
Basically, I want to have a public static class method that could
access a private object's method. I would like to be able to do :

Class.method(InstanceOfClass);

The method would then access a private function from Class by doing
something like

function method(param) {
param.privateMethodOfClass();
}

I've done a lot research and experimentations but just can't come up
with a solution... I don't even know if what I'm trying to do is
possible.

Why Is The Callwhy Is The Slice Method Only A Method Of An Array Instance?

Jan 31, 2011

Why is the callwhy is the slice method only a method of an Array instance? The reason why I ask is because if you want to use it for the arguments property of function object, or a string, or an object, or a number instance, you are forced to use Array .prototype slice.call(). And by doing that, you can pass in any type of object instance (Array, Number, String, Object) into it. So why not just default it as a method of all object instances built into the language?In other words, instead of doing this:

function Core(){
var obj = {a : 'a', b : 'b'};
var num = 1;[code]....

//right now none of the above would work but it's more convenient than using the call alternative.

}
Core('dom','event','ajax');

Why did the designers of the javascript scripting language make this decision?

Workalike For Top.location.watch("href",fn) In IE?

Jul 23, 2005

I'd like to set up a bit of javascript to be run when other javascript
loads a new page via something like { top.window.location.href =
newLocation }, and have access to the new value. (For example, so that
the target URL can be modified before fetching.)

In Mozilla, top.location.watch("href",fn) works well for this purpose.

In IE, neither watch() nor an onpropertychange handler set on
top.window.location work.

Resolved Hiding A Div When Turned Off?

Dec 16, 2009

I am trying to make an order form I am working on accessible for users who have javascript turned off in their browser, and to do this I would like to hide a div if JS is disabled.

Searching the Web has led me to think that styling the div to not display is the way forward and then using JS to display it. It is the JS bit I am struggling with! The div in question is a set of radio buttons to allow a purchaser to choose how many gift memberships they want to buy:

<div id="giftmember-buttons" style="display:none";>
<h2 class="threepeaksform">How many gift memberships do you wish to purchase?</h2>
<fieldset class="threepeaksform">
<legend>Please select the number of people you are buying a gift membership for using the buttons below.</legend>

Resolved Having Generating Random Text?

Aug 9, 2009

New to JS, and not too good at it. Trying to take some prewritten code and add script that displays some random text. Having trouble with assignment. Instructions are to replace a section of the file I am given with a script element. In the script element I am suppose to declare a variable named tipNum equal to a random integer between 1 and 10 returned by the randInt() function (which I made and have shown below). Then I am suppose to use a series of document.write() methods to write the following HTML code into the page:

<h1>Random Tip<br />title</h1>
<p>tip</p>

(Where "title" is the title of the random text as generated by the tipTitle() function from a external file, and which I did not make; and "tip" is the text of the random tip as genereated by the tipText() function, which is also from the external file, and not made by me) My code for the randInt() function is

function randInt(lower, upper) {
var size = ++(upper - lower);
var randValue = Math.floor(lower + size*Math.random());
}

The script I made to display the HTML code is

I am getting nothing on my page where the random text should be.

Resolved Grouping Radio Buttons Within A Div?

Sep 22, 2010

I have a form with multiple Divs containing radios, text etc. What I'm trying to do is write a function that will validate all radios only within a specified Div (in the code example below, Div4). I need to validate if all the radios in the div have "no" selected, or button[1]. If any have yes selected, then nothing happens. Only if all have No selected do I need something to happen.

Assigning radios to groups for validation is something I've done on a global (all of form) scale, but I can't figure how to be explicit to a div. The code below works, but only on individual radios, not groups. I've included a few buttons outside the div for effect. Oh, and the final product won't have alerts, it will be used to trigger a hidden div elsewhere in the form.
