Removing Css Attributes Set By .animate() After Complete?
Oct 4, 2011
I'm a stickler for not loading a ton of files, especially when they're javascript, so I chose to write my own horizontal news ticker. For what I need, I'm pretty sure I can do it with a much smaller footprint than a plugin.
Currently, I'm using overflow:hidden and position markers to make the div 'scroll off the screen'. Not sure if this is the proper way to do it, but it is working (for the most part). Here is the code I have so far:
var numItems = $('div.newspost').length;
var timeoutNews;
$('#news1').css({'left':'0px'});
if(numItems > 1) {
changeNews(1);

In firefox, the .css function never resets the div. However in internet explorer, it resets it before the animation completes and you can see the original shoot across the screen. I can watch the divs in firebug, and it never touches the style tag (almost like the reset function is never being called). I verified this by changing it to some other style, like font-weight:bold
I'm sure this is a silly 'gotcha', but it lost me when it worked (poorly) in IE 8. The idea is to have the appearance of a circular ticker. It loops well, but after the first run, everything just pops in from the left side.
Note: Don't run this too long in your browser without a limit. I'm new at jQuery and this script has no memory management whatsoever.
I'm trying to remove onchange events from <td> attributes but I can't get it working. I have tried many ways of doing this but this is the way that made most sense to me and still didn't work.This function adds a new row to the table "searchTableResults" and I'm trying to make it remove the onchange attributes on all cells from the previous row. This is sort of the same effect when adding records in Access (a row is added every time you add data in a cell in the last row)
function addSearchRow() { var mydiv = document.getElementById('searchTableResults').getElementsByTagName('tbody')[0]; var newRow = document.createElement('tr');
I have a JavaScript file which Adds and Removes elements when you click a button.
Adding stuff is okay, but removing elements is more complicated.
When you add an element you also add id=x. Each time you add an element x goes up one. For example if I click "add element" 5 times it would be like this:
HTML Code:
If I wanted to remove the thrid element then I would want the following divs to replace it, for example it should look like this:
HTML Code:
I can't figure out how to do this, here is what I tried but it won't work
I have a slogan that is supposed be animated so that one part slides onto the screen, followed by the other part. My understanding of the 'callback function' parameter on the .animate() function is that it's not supposed to execute until the animation is finished. The trouble is, the two functions seem to be executing at the same time (that is, the two parts of the slogan appear on the screen at the same time.) Here is my code:
$(document).ready(function() { // hide slogan text $('#slogan_1').css('left','270px'); $('#slogan_2').css('top','75px');});
I have a toggle animation which puts the area I want to show to the user in view, ones that animation has played I want to animate several other objects on the page. I have the code to animate one object by using the callback function in animate. But is it possible to animate several objects in the callback function?. this is the code I have so far
I use the wonderful .animate() method to create a "parallax website". It's still in developpement, but you can see the result : www.ohnewgarden.fr My problem : When you are at the very right, the animate effect reset my left property before animating. Which is weird is that this "reset" is applied only to two layers, without any sense. I'm going crazy !
So if someone could help me, it will be very nice ! It's probably my code which is wrong, but I can't see the mistake.
[Code]...
I said for my defense, I have tried to remove .stop(), tried to change parameters of .stop(), tried to reset (like there) the left property with a .css() method, and I have also tried to animate with "+=" (like there), but nothing works. If you follow to the link I gave, you could see very easily by clicking on "Contact" and after animation by clicking on "Accueil".
I have a div that has a negative top margin and a negative right margin. The right margin is because I want to have the div slide onto the page from the right. The top margin is because without it my page height is the height of the visible elements plus the height of the off-screen div.On a button click, I move the div down and then animate it onto the screen from the right. On button click again, I animate the div to the right, off the screen, and then move it up. I also toggle its width & padding so it will appear to grow/shrink as it moves on/off screen. At least that's what I am trying to do. The animation onto the screen looks good, but going off the screen, it appears to happen intantaneously, instead of animatedDoes anyone know how I can fix this?
$(".addPanels").live("click", function(){//now and in the future, show the add panels menu var thisAddPanelsMenu = $(this).parent().prev(".addPanelsMenu");//get the addPanelsMenu if(thisAddPanelsMenu.length) {//if the addPanelsMenu exists
In IE when autocomplete is working and the user picks the drop down in a Input text box, the password will appear giving the user quick access to the next step. But the cursor should occur to the right of the inserted "*"'s in the pasword box. But for me my cursor is just sitting at the end of the Input box I mentioned. I would like the cursor to sit at the end of the "*"'s in the password box.
I tried disabling the Input box and all that did is crash Internet Explorer plus it didn't put the cursor at the end of the "*"'s in the password box anyway. Any suggestions how I can get what is normal in this case?
Is there a discussion/explanation of all the possible DOM Objects?? Well if not, Here's the first question: What is the difference between height and offsetHeight ?
Is it possible on Mozilla based browsers and IE based browsers to get the complete source for the current page that is opened?
document.body.innerHTML does well but only gets what's within the page's BODY tag. document.body.outerHTML doesn't work with Mozilla. Is there such a thing as document.src.value or something simple like that?
i'm trying to get to grips with Javascript for a Uni project, on this one i'm trying to show an image then replace that image with a .gif animation. Once the .gif has finished its animation once i want to replace it with a different image to the first.
the code I've come up with is running on a simple timer and loops endlessly, if anyone has any pointers that could help me or just tell me how to get my desired effect in a way i can understand then hopefully i can base my learning Javascript around that.
how do i code such that all gifs are loaded without missing any one of them ? I always get missing few gifs when the page loading with 30 gifs. I use IE6 to browse many <a href='myurl'><img src='mygif.gif'></a>
I'm looking for a solution to take an element value to an autocomplete event: (something like this, but it's not working)[code]the autocomlete works but I can't reach the "pid" element's value by this way in the getList.php
I am new to jQuery.I have a problem where I want to traverse through DOM.For example a complete webpage.Is there any jQuery way to traverse complete DOM of the current page where the jQuery script resides ?
I have found a couple different code snippits that allow you to determine when a page has finished loading in an IFRAME. However, what I need is a way to determine this when it is a form that is POSTing to that IFRAME (which is on a remote web site).
Basically on my page there is a button that submits a form to another website and the target = the IFRAME. However, I don't want to actually display the content from the other site (and so the IFRAME is invisible). I just need to know when the submission is complete. As a user you can tell by watching the status bar in IE to see that the submission is still processing, but I'm looking for a more elegant way to do this (as I want to tie it into a mechnism that will visually show the user the status of the submission in real time.)
'm thinking that I have to learn how to work with cookies to do this but I was wondering if there was a variable type that might instead.. I have the following little test script...it works but only the first way...if I wanted to make this work both ways how would I go about it? I'm trying to figure out a way to create one of the little +/- buttons that can show and hide content.
I am trying to build a script, where the file references get added to an array when downloaded.
I have a slideshow so I want it the image references to be dynamically added to the javascript array. Any ideas how to do this? Is there an event which returns true when download complete
