Refreshing A Browser With OnClick Event
Jul 20, 2005
Is there a method in onClick event to refresh the browser. I'd like to
have users click on a link to listen to a streaming audio feed, but at
the same time as the click, refresh the browser so that my animated
gifs will still animate.

I have a page with various divs containing SWF's and some HTML and JavaScript. The problem is that, when the page is first visited using IE7, half of the content doesn't appear. So, I have created a loadDivs(); function that looks like this::
Code:
function loadDivs()
{
var mardi2= $('mardiGras');
mardi2.show();
[Code].....

Is it possible to disable the browser from refreshing when settings document.location.href
for example here's what i would like to do
if you're at mysite.com you'll click on a link. that link will fire a func that will make the location mysite.com/about however i don't want the browser to refresh. instead i want to write some javascript that will do someother stuff. i know it seems pointless but for the project i am working on it actually make pretty good sense (to me at least LOL).
i don't care about clicking the refresh button or F5 right now. just not having the browser refresh when i change the document.location.

Is there a way to tell when the user closes the browser that doesn't
also happen when a page is merely being refreshed?

I'm writing php based website that queries a database and writes the html with the results. On the home page, I am querying one database and receiving data to connect to other databases (i.e., database hostname, username, and password). Depending on the link selected, the homepage creates a dynamic form and sends the data via method=post. The next dynamic webpage receives the data via $_POST and connects to a different database for the rest of the website content.
I can successfully select a link on the home page and load the data for the second page the first time, but I have a problem when I hit back on the browser. The browser takes me back to the home page but if I select another link for another database, it does not "post" the new database info and the second page looks the same as the first time it loaded.
Here is my code
Code:
function database(project, hostname, username, password) {document.body.innerHTML += '
<form id="databaseform" action="project.php" method="post"><input type="hidden" name="project" value="' + project + '">
<input type="hidden" name="dbhostname" value="' + hostname + '">
<input type="hidden" name="dbusername" value="' + username + '">
<input type="hidden" name="dbpassword" value="' + password + '">
<input type="hidden" name="dbpassword" value="' + password + '"></form>';document.getElementById("databaseform").submit();}

I have to open a new window when user closes the browser window. But the problem is that on browser close unload event calls and the same event is called with we refresh the page. So it is opening the popup window on both window close and window refresh.

I want to make it so that when I click on something, it changes what document.onclick does.
This is a simplified version of what I'm trying to do:
Code:
<div id="clickme" onclick="document.onclick = function(){ alert ('This should not be alerted on the first click'); }">Click here</div>
However, as you'll notice, the alert box shows up on the first click as well. The only way I have been able to get around this behaviour is to have the first onclick execute a timer that will then set the document.onclick after 1ms, however this seems very messy to me.

currently on our site we have and expanding <div> that responds to both the onmouseover and onmouseout events. It works wonderfully.
The UX people now would like the expanding <div> to open with the onclick event and then as soon as the mouse leaves the expanded div, it would close. I have tried using the onmouseout event in conjunction the onclick event but it does not work (the div persists).

I have been searching high and low on how to do this and I think I'm at a loss because I'm so unfamiliar with js and ajax.What I would like to do is have just a single div on a page refresh every 5-10 secs; the content of the div shows what users are logged on; the content is generated by a query on my db
<div id="players"><?php
$online_query = "SELECT user_log.user_id,user_log.ip,user_log.logged_in,user_log.logged_out,users.username,users.type_id FROM user_log LEFT JOIN users ON user_log.user_id=users.id WHERE user_log.logged_in IS NOT NULL AND user_log.logged_out IS NULL ORDER BY users.username";[code]....
almost all of the google results I got for refreshing a div were for updating dropdown boxes or dealt with some kind of page event...so now I'm at a loss on what else to look for..

I'm using onclick in a link. I would like the page not to go back to the top when I click on the link.
I'm using :
<a onclick="popEditor()" href="#">Editor</a>
This takes the page up top the top. If it's href="" then the results of the popEditor() function appear in the current page. What is the syntax?

I've worked with them on many occasions, but my question if an HTML tag currently has an onclick event and I need to add another, can I just simply add another onclick? Example
<a href="/files/Registration_Form.doc" onClick="javascript: pageTracker._trackPageview('/downloads/Registration_Form_Universal'); onclick="javascript:this.form-just a sample">here</a>

I have googled for my issue in this group. This question was asked
many times and many solution was given. But I want clear cut solution
for the issue.
The issue is:
I tried to capture the browse close event by using
Body onunload=fn1() statement and it is working fine.
I have one Parent and child window.
My req is to close the child window when I click -X- buton in IE. It
is also working fine. (I wrote condition in Unload event of the parent
page).
But when the page is postback (when I click one button) the unload
event fires and it closes my child window automatically. But I want my
child window should not close this situation.

i have a really big table... and the <tr> tags have onclick/onmouseover
events that highlight a row when you drag your mouse over it, and open a
popup window when you click anywhere in the row...
if i however have some text in the row that has an href link attached to it,
when i click on the link it will go to the href url AND open the popup
window...
is there any way to stop the popup window from opening when i click a
certain link within a row?

I'm not sure what the correct term for this is, but I want to have two
objects (say HTML divs) positioned absolutely one on top of the other,
with the lower of the two having an onclick event attached to it.
Now as you can guess, if I then click on where the top and bottom object
overlap, the top object intercepts the click and the onclick event for
the bottom object is never fired.
What I want to do is to have the even "cascade" with the top object
ignoring the click and letting the bottom one handle it. Is this
possible? Am I being too vague?

I am trying to set the onclick event for images through a function, but the
event is triggered as soon the page loads, then will not work when the image
is clicked. Can anyone suggest what is wrong?
It is happening in both IE6 and Firefox
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
window.onload = fnNewWindowLinks;
function fnNewWindowLinks() {
for (var intLinks=0; intLinks<document.links.length; intLinks++) {
if (document.links[intLinks].className == "picture") {
document.links[intLinks].onClick = alert("Clicked");
}
}
}

From javascript in IE, I have a need to hijack the onclick event for an element and replace it dynamically with my own.
I have tried the following...
control.onclick = 'myHandler();'
but this doesn't seem to do the trick. How do I go about doing this?

I create an object like this:
var cell = document.createElement("td").
It doesn't have to be cell.
I want this cell to use the onclick event. What doesn't work in the IE as
well as with Mozilla is:
cell.onclick = "whatever()";
What works only with Mozilla is:
cell.setAttribute("onclick", "whatever()");
So my question: Is there any way to get this done in the IE?

I am trying to add an onclick event to a dynamically generated element. This happens in an iframe, but the element is being added to the parent document, and I need to associate the onclick event with a function in the parent document. When I add it from the iframe and then click on the image, I get an error saying the function does not exist.
var img = parent.document.createElement('img');
img.onclick = function() { doSomething() };
parentDiv.appendChild(img); //parentDiv is an element in the parent document
I also tried: img.setAttribute('onclick', 'doSomething(this);'); This worked great in Firefox, but not in IE.

<script>
function showUserReg() {
document.getElementById("userReg").style.display = "inline";
