View 9 RepliesI am new to Javascript programming, I do know enough to modify certain parts of Javascript coding. I am trying to read a list box line by line and place the item into an image link. I am trying to loop throught the list box and write out the item to the link and also write out the count which is "i" to be the array number, if that make sense. Here is what I have so far. I am not sure what I am missing to get this done.
var i = 0
var listbox
var image

How do I put the icon onto the favourites list when a user adds my page to
their favourites?
Basically, what I am looking to do is to sync up browsers favorites via a
website without a download. I thought of javascript when first doing this,
as I know, mozilla would allow me to pull them directly just with the js,
but I do not want to have go beyond javascript and PHP.
I have been going over making a mozilla extension as well as getting into
some programming for a toolbar(I know some c/c++ and c#), but, if I can do
something just browser-based, without the need for downloads and installs,
that would be fantastic.
i just need a simple pop-up that says "would you like to add us to your favorites".
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to build an online bookmark manager and I want to try and
download the favorites in a browser. I know you can do
window.external.AddFavorite but can you do the reverse in any way, to
retrieve them from the browser into a page? I would assume that this
is not possible because of security reasons but there must be some way
of doing it?
At the top of www.cheatstomb.com there is a link to bookmark the page but it doesnt do anything when I press it. What I did wrong and how can I fix it?

Is it possible to read from JS XML data which are stored in another file?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find a simple step-by-step on how to read a simple XML file

The problem is every example, I find that it will work in IE but not Firefox
or visa versa, could someone please point me to a how to that will work with
both browsers. I just spent two weeks reading the Microsoft Press Book "XML
Step by Step", only to find out that the technology only works with IE.
Can someone give me some pointers on how I can read one or more
arguements from a url, using js?
Why? I'm working on a LAMP based project and when a user successfully
registers, the header redirects to the login screen - I'd like to check
for the value of register, if read from:
http://www.mydomain.com/index.html?register=success
A pointer/hint as opposed to a solution should be sufficient because I'm
doing pretty well learning javascript.
I'm extremely new to XML, tell me what needs to be fixed in my XML file
as well as in my javascript.
My XML file looks like this:

<imapmail>
<message>
<subject>Testing, 123</subject>
<sender>Name <email@example.com></sender>
<date>1/2/03</date>
<size>640 KB</size>
<read>0</read>
</message>
</imapmail>
I'm accessing it with this javascript:
var sender =
xmlDocument.getElementsByTagName("sender").item(0).firstChild.data;
I ultimately want to user to see that the sender is "Name
<email@example.com>". With the way the XML file is currently set up
(sender is Name <email@example.com>), the only that shows up
on the javascript end is Name. Is the way I'm storing it in my XML file
the best way to be doing it?
I'm trying to write code that will read an XML file. I've found several examples but I can't get them to work. Am I missing a DLL file? The errors I commonly get are "object required" (as with the code below) or "permission denied". Any insight would be helpful and appreciated. Here is what I'm trying:

I am having problems reading the value of a text Node. I think it has to do with the fact that the text is in a tag.
I have a table and in each
I have text + a checkbox. I want to retreive the text next to the checked checkboxes and concatenate it.
Here is my Code:
From javascript, I am opening a popup window and requesting a url, which sends a xml as a response to the popup window. From this javascript, I want to read that xml content:

<aaa>
<vvvv>1</vvvv>
</aaa>
I tried
del_window=window.open("http://abc.com/_xmlservice","","width=1,height=1");
var ele = del_window.document.documentElement; //this is returning "HTML"
...
and
del_window.document.getElementsByTagName("xxx")
But nothing worked out.
I'm trying to create a javascript barcode API, that reads from my USB barcode reader and calls an action upon completion. The reading itself is not complicated at all, since the barcode reader functions exactly as typing the same numbers on my keyboard. So scanning a barcode with; 5050500
would be the same as typing it on my keyboard, but of course much faster. The problem lies in my "API" which dosn't always respond to the barcode length correctly, hence executing the actions at the wrong time (see code below).
A scenario in my application would be to separate multiple barcodes with a semicolon, which is what I'm trying to do with the code below. Copy paste the following code, and run it in your browser: Code:

reloading an XML file that I'm reading with AJAX. I'm looking for a way to refresh this XML when the page is refreshed so I know that the data is up to date. It only needs to happen when the page is reloaded. one solution suggested something like this
Code:
var xmlhttp;
function loadNewsContent(url)

But that doesn't work at all and I don't know why.
I have a table that has parts with multiple characteristics. Part Number, Height, Width, Capacity, Price, Etc. I would like to have a drop downs for all of these values, when a user selects one of these values it will filter the results into a list. Ex. user selects a part that has a Height of 6 and width of 10 it will only list those parts. As I said earlier, I have a script that will give me all the parts, however I am not able to make the onchange list parts with multiple values.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a page that displays a list of people playing in a tournament. I need to be able to generate a Leaderboard based on which players are manually selected by the admin. Next to each person there is a drop-down list. An admin can go in and select a "slot" that a player should be in on the leader board from 1 to 8, or leave it blank if none. What I need to figure out how to do is the following, when a change event happens on a drop-down list, and say the value 5 is selected, I need to check to make sure that 5 is not already selected in one of the other players drop-down lists, in other words, that the 5th leaderboard slot is not already full. if it is, display an error message and make them change that one first. how to do that with jQuery? I'm thinking it will have something to do with the each() function, but not sure exactly how the logic should work.

I have been trying to make an expand/collapse (essentially accordion) list. So far, everything works and looks fine in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome, but in IE8, the page height is static when it loads, with a page height being as if all headers in the list were expanded. The expand/collapse functionality works,but as you can imagine, there is this big gap of space after the list.
The html markup uses
tags for the always-visible header portion and a
for the expanding/collapsing content. The
content contains form elements and everything is enclosed in a form tag.Anyways, here is the jQuery code:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('').prependTo('.header');
$('.content').hide();[code].....
i am writing a script that will update a dropdown list based on the selection of a previous list. the script is run by a PHP script, so instead of posting the PHP, i will post an example client-side script. the hierachy is: category, sub category, brand (but sometimes there exists no sub category and the PHP script queries and adds brands instead) everything works correctly, except for one major issue: you can not change the selection of the third (brand) box this could be an easy fix for some coders, but i am not experienced in javascript and could really use some help. here is an example script, sorry it is so long

I have been struggling on a bit of code for a while now. I need to populate a second drop down list (Region) based upon the selection of the first (County).I have found a piece of code that works on its own and have adapted to suit my needs - see below. However, when I drop it into my main page the javascript is not working. It's because of the formObject but I just don't know enough to resolve this! Furthermore, I need the textboxes the user has already completed in the form to retain their value once the javascript kicks in as the completed form will submit to a database.This piece of code is working well . . . .

$link = mysql_connect('myhost', 'myusername', 'mypassword') or die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error());
mysql_select_db('mydatabase') or die('Could not select database');[code]......
I have 3 ASP list boxes. I would like to populate the second list box based on the selection in the first list box and based on the selection in the second list box, populate the third. I would like to do this using AJAX. How can I do it? Can someone please give me the code snippet as I am a complete noob when it comes to AJAX and I kinda am running outta time to finish implementing it. Additionally, should I use ASP boxes or HTML tag?
