Popup Box With Cookie (Yes Or Cancel Prompt)
Jun 25, 2011
I'm trying to make a code for something on a forum. It will prompt the user for a yes or cancel, then save a cookie with their answer. Then the next time the script is called, it will check for the cookie. If there is one saved, it won't prompt and use that value.
Here's my breakdown (hope this is right)
1. Have a popup box that prompt for a 'yes' or 'cancel'
if(window.confirm("Use WHATEVER theme?"))
{
* * location.href = "URL HERE";
}
2. Save a cookie with the answer. I really don't have a clue other than the fact that you use setCookie(name, value, expire). I'm guessing that there will need to be something special in the value section.
3. When the script is loaded, it will check for the cookie saved and do whatever was save. Again, I know I'll need the getCookie function, but I don't know what else.

I have a password script that prompts users for a password, the script works perfect, however, when you click on cancel, it begins the loop again and you can't exit the prompt unless you know the password. It's an internal site so I don't care if it's not that secure. What first occurs is the user clicks on the submit button in a text form, when that occurrs, the password prompt apears, I need the user to be able to click on the cancel button, which will also cancel the submit request and then gets redirected to the same site, like a refresh. I'm not that great with if and else statements, so it may be the problem, or I may need a entire new script.

I'm sure this is really simple, but I can't figure out how to prompt a user before they delete an entry in my database-driven website.
I have this:
$("a.deleteprompt").click(function()
alert("Are you sure you want to delete this entry?");
});
But the only option there is 'Ok'. I need to set this up with a 'Cancel' option as well, but don't want to use a plugin like Impromptu to do so as it's overkill.

Doing web page with ASP/VB.NET. Have text boxes for UI on page. Two command buttons - Submit (for db update) and Cancel. I need the Cancel button to prompt the user to verify cancellation. Need OK/Cancel buttons on alert. If user selects Cancel-no action. If user selects OK then I want the text boxes cleared of user text input and focus returned to first text box. I think this may be the code but do not know how to apply it.
function Clear()
{
var res=window.confirm("Please confirm cancellation-text boxes will be cleared"); [code].....
Is this code valid or invalid for the events I need? How do I set it to fire when user clicks the ASP Cancel button?

I am having a hard time figuring out how to prompt a user then save that prompt into a cookie.. I am wanting to make a option on my forum to have someone open a prompt enter an image url then save that url into a cookie as well as writing their response into a img tag to make it a background.. I already have a script to save backgrounds images but was wanting an option to allow my users to pick there own favorite image.

I found this neat looking script which appears very nicely on my site:
http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex11/abox.htm
I've come to realize today that it doesn't actually have any cookie code so that it only appears once every visitor session, instead in it's current state it appears every page load which is incredibly annoying. I know absolutely nothing on how to write or read javascript, can anyone help to include the cookie code?

I am making a sort of text based game (Just a hobby) I like to do that sort of thing. So, anyway, considering all I can really do is code HTML, and very, very light javascript, I kinda need some help.
I basicly know how to do everything except affect & Use the cookies. So what I need to do with them is to
#1.) Have a code to change the cookie number, say... on the click of a button.
#2.) Have a code where it only displays certain text if the cookie is a certain number.
I cant code JS and have no idea how hard/easy this is.
If it is insanely hard & needs a master coder, just tell me and ill take it off. I dont want to be wasting anyones time.

I have an embedded system with a web interface. One of the web pages
has a small JavaScript program that, when run on IE6, always displays
the message that cookies need to be enabled:
if (document.cookie.indexOf('asm_session') == -1)
{
document.cookie = 'asm_session=0'
if (document.cookie.indexOf('asm_session') == -1)
{
document.write("Advanced System Management access requires
cookies to be enabled."+'<br><br>');
}
}
This problem only occurs with IE6, not Mozilla. It also only happens
on some of the embedded systems, but this problem exists for everyone
running IE6.
The problem isn't limited to the Javascript code, either. On another
web page from this embedded system, a cookie is set the normal way,
via the HTTP header. This cookie is also rejected.
When I display any page that attempts to set a cookie, IE6 displays
the blocked icon and says that cookies on that URL are blocked.
However, I have set all privacy and cookie options to their most
permissive. I've spent the past hour changing every option I can find
that's even remotely related to cookies and privacy, and nothing
changes. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

In my web application we are able to store large data in the browser
cookie keeping in mind the limit of 300 cookies per cookie file, 20
keys per cookie per domain and 4KB max size of each cookie. We are
unable to retreive this large amount of data immediately after storing
through document.cookie in IE browser (The same works fine in
Netscape).
Is there any limit on the size of the data that can be retreived using
document.cookie in IE browser? Could you please suggest a solution to
this problem I am facing.

solution, but I don't like it. I remove the iframe element, so it
won't upload anymore. Do you any other solutions better than this?

I have this function I'm firing to execute the "delete" of an entry
Code JavaScript:
$(document).ready(function() {
$(".post_tools a.deletelink").click(function() {
var container = $(this).parents('.comment').attr("id");
var scriptLoc = $(this).attr("href");
[Code]...
The function executes the alert and if the user selects "OK" it completes successfully. However, if the user chooses to back out of the process when the alert fires by closing the alert, the function does not get canceled, it completes the delete of the comment. What do I need to do to make sure the user can successfully cancel this process when the warring is delivered?

I Have a text box in a jsp that is pre populated. The text box should accept only numbers and it should be greater than a minimum value (this value depends on the user settings). If the user enters a value less than the minimum value, i should pop up an alert saying that the value
entered is incorrect and reset it back to previous correct value. How could i do it using onchange event of the text box.

The follwing function is in an onkeypress event for some textboxes. How can
I cancel the keystroke? or more importantly it's output. This function does
what I want it to do, but it actually writes a space in the textbox. I
wanted to escape out of writing the character. Especially if I change it to
another keyCode besides space bar. Any ideas?
function setEfforts(ctrl){
if(event.shiftKey && event.keyCode == 32)
{
var row = ctrl.parentNode.parentNode;
var inputs = row.getElementsByTagName('input');
var textboxes = new Array();
for(var x = 0; x < inputs.length; x++)
if(inputs[x].type == 'text'){textboxes.push(inputs[x]);}
for(var y = 0; y < textboxes.length; y++)
textboxes[y].value = ctrl.value;
}
return false;
}

I've found articles/posts on creating custom confirm pops utilizing hidden <div> etc,
but adding 40 odd lines of code just to offer Yes or No buttons seems absurd.
Short of creating a complete confirmation div and script, is it possible
to EASILY change the button values of a confirmation pop-up?
For Example, "There is a related value not selected in the form.
Would you like to select it now?"

I want to do something in our back office. There are quite a few sections and it looks really cluttered because they are all different sizes and so forth.I use fieldset for each, where the legend has the title of the section.So what I was thinking of doing is making it where they are all collapsed until the mouseover function then that would expand only that section. I know how to do that. What I want to do though is for the mouseout feature have it set a timeout to close after 1 or 2 seconds. my question is this.What if they go out but then back over it would the setTimeout then close it because the time expired? if so how could I cancel any setTimeout that is there and only if set so that it did not close on them?

I've been trying to do something and it's killing me because I can't figure out how to do it properly. I have an input box. I'm validating as the user types. Basically deleting forbidden characters as they type. I'm doing it with the onkeyup event. Problem is this looks kinda crappy because the character they type appears briefly and then get's deleted. I want to know how can I cancel the event that writes on the input box so that instead of deleting the character myself, I just cancel the event. I have no idea if the input box or the window is the one responsible for doing this.

A description of the problem:
1) Go to a page with various settings and a timeout (forces re-login
if over 10 minutes)
2) Before the timeout, make some changes to settings.
3) Press a "reset to defaults" button that uses a confirmation box to
let the user know what is about to be reset (lists items).
4) Walk away while the confirm box is displayed and come back after
the page timeout.
5) My screen now has the page, a confirm popup on top of that, and a
timeout alert on top of that.
6) Press OK to dismiss the timeout alert. The underlying page goes to
the login screen, but the confirm box remains.
How can I clear any javascript alert/confirm popups in this situation
automatically?
