I know that this is very basic to most of you JS Guru's out there, but I am stumped. I have found dozens of tuts on this, but can't seem to find a VERY simple basic version of it. This is what I want, actually my client wants. I want to have a select list that gives the options of countries. Then upon selection this changes the drop down list of the states/provinces listed. So when I click on Europe it shows the different sections of Europe, and US it shows the states (I'm sorry I don't know what Europe calls their equivalent of a state), etc.
how to create a somewhat simple form. The form will have text fields for 'Name', 'Phone', etc. What I want is to have a drop down list, which has different insurances to choose from (i.e. Medical Insurance, Dental Insurance, Senior products), and say when I choose 'Senior Products', new text fields pop up within the form to add their 'Address' and click a checkbox that states they authorize to be contacted. These new fields aren't visible unless they choose 'Senior Products' from the drop down list.
how to populate a dropdown based on Another dropdown selection. This all should be a dynamic. Eg: I have two text boxes one is TechID and other is JOB ID. When I start typing Tech ID it suggests me the list of IDs which start with the input string i have put in Tech textbox. I am trying to create a drop down list which depend to the value selected from the previous drop down list. I can add it without problem, but If I change again the value of the first drop down list I would like to remove the previous drop down list generated from the first value. If I try to remove it when I create the element, it even does not create the element, the remove element function seems to work because when you click on the remove link it works.

I have several lists each of several hundred selectable items. I send all lists to the client along with the javascript. When the user types the first letter of the item in a text box, I know which list to present- it is likely the user will wish to view several of the lists concurrently (I am not concerned at the extra load time of a few thousand items sent via javascript). However, I am trying to do everything client side- (even if I use ajax to call the list from the server, there is delay at the client side as the listbox is populated with appropriate items) - can anyone think of a manner of presenting a long list dynamically, based on the first letter typed, client side and with the absolute minimum of delay? (These items then need to be selectable)

I have a table that has parts with multiple characteristics. Part Number, Height, Width, Capacity, Price, Etc. I would like to have a drop downs for all of these values, when a user selects one of these values it will filter the results into a list. Ex. user selects a part that has a Height of 6 and width of 10 it will only list those parts. I have a page that displays a list of people playing in a tournament. I need to be able to generate a Leaderboard based on which players are manually selected by the admin. Next to each person there is a drop-down list. An admin can go in and select a "slot" that a player should be in on the leader board from 1 to 8, or leave it blank if none. What I need to figure out how to do is the following, when a change event happens on a drop-down list, and say the value 5 is selected, I need to check to make sure that 5 is not already selected in one of the other players drop-down lists, in other words, that the 5th leaderboard slot is not already full. if it is, display an error message and make them change that one first. how to do that with jQuery? I'm thinking it will have something to do with the each() function, but not sure exactly how the logic should work.

I want there to be links (or Buttons) in the popup that when clicked will auto populate the drop downs and then then user will only have to click go to be taken to the url already specified in the chained slect menu script.

I have been struggling on a bit of code for a while now. I need to populate a second drop down list (Region) based upon the selection of the first (County).I have found a piece of code that works on its own and have adapted to suit my needs - see below. However, when I drop it into my main page the javascript is not working. It's because of the formObject but I just don't know enough to resolve this! Furthermore, I need the textboxes the user has already completed in the form to retain their value once the javascript kicks in as the completed form will submit to a database.This piece of code is working well . . . .

I am facing the above problem for a chatroom app that I am making. People will enter and exit the room any time they want, so i need a member list that updates itself to reflect this on the screen of all users that are in the chatroom. What i have thought of, is to have JS call a PHP function on specific intervals, and that PHP function will retrieve user data from a database and pass it to JS to display on the list. Is this method advisable? Are there any more suitable ways of doing this? I am thinking of applying the same theory for displaying and retrieving chat messages, but i get the feeling that something's missing for this, or maybe this method is not right for displaying messages.
I am using Javascript & PHP to populate a select list. The Ajax is working perfectly as I have tested it. However, as you can see from the below code, I have a button which adds more rows (which includes 2 select lists and file input) to a table.
When I click Add Row, the row is added perfectly and both select boxes along with the file field are shown as expected. The problem occurs when I select a value from the "room_name[]" box - there are no values returned inside the "album_title[]" select box. I have two select lists, the first one has three options in it, What I need to have happen is once a option is selected in the first drop down, the second drop down will be populated with the remaining two options.
Have a WAMP setup with Apache, PHP and Mysql service and I�m working on a HTML form which will have two drop-down controls where information is extracted from two tables in my DB.The first drop-down list called (name="sel_ControlArea") will decide what information the second drop-down list will have.So far I have managed to populate them when the page is loaded using PHP but run into problem when I make a change on the first drop-down list.Question one: What is the best/correct way to solve this problem?Is it to load all information into PHP arrays and then translate these to Javascript arrays, or should I go for AJAX, or XML or are there any other better ways ?I have tried to solve this using the first method, put data in a PHP array but run into problem with this data not properly loaded.This is first time for me to pose a question so please let me know if I have left out some important information or if I should describe this problem in a different way.
