Open And Write To Html Page?
Sep 20, 2010
I have created a site search for my website and would like to display the results of my search in a pre-made html page, specifically a <div> object in this document. Is it possible to open the premade page and add text to the <div> object using javascript?

I am totally new to jQuery and no good knowledge on javascript. However, I was assigned a task, to convert a javascript program to jQuery due to compatibility problem on browsers like Chrome and Safari. My program originally use javascript xmlDoc.load('....') to read XML file, and then use document.write statement to write html tables on client side. Something like this (the sample below may got lots of syntax problem as I jut want to show the major part):
Code:
document.write('<TABLE >');
var y=x[0].getElementsByTagName('NoOfRows');
for (i=0; i<=noofrows-1 && i<=y.length-1; i++){
document.write(' <TD>');
document.write(z[j].getElementsByTagName('RecordDetails')[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue;
}
Now I changed to use jQuery, I can read the XML file elements. However, when I try to write the table, it failed:

I have an html page that uses javascript to open a new window and
display a file that gets created when a button is pressed.
My problem is when the file is changed and the display button is
pressed, the old file is still displaying. I have tried using
<META HTTP-EQUIV=expires CONTENT=0><META HTTP-EQUIV=PRAGMA CONTENT=NO-CACHE>, but doesn't work 100% of the time.

I need to be able to search through an xml located on my local machine with an html page. Here's the thing: this whole system (html files, xml file) will always be on my local machine. Because it's a class project it won't be on a server. So here's the scenario: I navigate to where my files are located (say C:) and I double click my index.html page and this page opens in my browser and from this page I need to be able to search my xml file which is at the same location. I've tried xmlhttprequest and it won't open the xml file I'm guessing because I don't need an http request.
Here's what I have so far:
if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {
xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest();
} else {
xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
} xmlhttp.open("GET","C:MovieDB.xml",false);
xmlhttp.send(); xmlDoc=xmlhttp.responseXML;
function searchDB() {
if(!xmlDoc){
alert("error")
} var keyword = $('#txtBox').val();
var searchVal = $('#basicCategory :selected').text();
var allitems = xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("Movie");
for(var i=0;i<allitems.length;i++){
alert(allitems[i].getElementsByTagName(searchVal[0].
childNodes[0].nodeValue);
} }
The code doesn't make it past the xmlhttp.send() line.

I am trying to open some SWF videos from an HTML page. When the user clicks the link, I would like to have the videos open in a transparent window (not a separate browser wndow).
I have figured out how to embed the files and have them open in a transparent window as soon as you load/refresh the page but I want to open the SWF using a link.

I am very new to Javascript and before I explain what I want I'll tell
you in a few words that I am trying to make a button on a WYSIWYG text
editor (RichArea) that previews on a template the content of the editor
and not in just an empty page.
I can't get around the folowing:
I have a page with a form and a text area. In the textarea I write html
code or any text. Then I hit a button and I open a new window which is a template of a page and I want to put the content of the textarea from the previous page inside a content div.
This is the code of the source page:

Using my IE v.6 browser, document.write doesn't convert HTML entities
(e.g. ', &) to the appropriate character (though NS 6.2 works
fine).
Obviously I can get round this for particular entities by writing some
code to do the conversion before using document.write - but I need a
more general solution that will catch any of the HTML entities.
A trawl with Google has found a number of people raising the question,
but no answers. Any suggestions?

I'm making a table that is dynamically populated from XML data. One of the columns refers to an XML tag that is NOT required (hence the tag does not exist in every XML entry). How do I write a statement (if, else, or any other?) that says - check for the tag, if the tag exists, write the tag's data, if the tag does NOT exist, write "n/a".Here's the code:
[CODE]
<script type="text/javascript">

IE 6.0 (not interested in other browsers at the moment)
I have looked everywhere I can find to look and googled until I am
cross-eyed and am hoping somebody knows what I'm doing wrong.
I have an HTML application (.hta) working fine, except one thing. I'm
trying to write to a local database from a .htm window (opened from
the main .hta window) and it doesn't work with any of the combinations
I've tried (and I admit to having tried a lot).
Here is one method I've tried:
strSQL = "Update myTable SET myField = 'myValue' WHERE myID = 12;"
var db = new ActiveXObject("ADODB.Connection");
db.Provider = "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0";0
db.ConnectionString = "Data Source='c:myDirectorymyDatabase.mdb'";
db.Open;
db.execute(strSQL);
I can easily access the information in the myDatabase.mdb and display
it on the screen.
I can ask for updated information to be input on the screen.
But stuffing that updated information back into the database is the
problem.
Since I'm stuck in an .htm window, I don't have VBScript available, do
I? If VBScript isn't available and it isn't physically possible with
Javascript, then I'll have to revert to .hta windows, where I know I
have VBScript available. But I'd rather do it all in Javascript
within the .htm so as to avoid the security message that pops up when
the .hta opens a new .hta. For various reasons I don't think it is
possible for me to do this whole project within a single .hta.

I am working with a special tool which pre-processes the page. Using
document.write, I am composing the page while it is loading, so I need
to force a reprocess of the page AFTER the page loads.
Is there some way to do that? That is, I want the browser to
essentially act as if the composed page was the original page.
Here is a brief version of the page construction technique:

In a test I have a long table with about 100 questions. All questions are grouped in, let say, 10 "categories", so every time an user answers a question he adds a value to the corresponding "category". I would like to show the user his test results in a new page:
Cat. A 12% (or total points)
Cat. B 18% (or total points)
....
Cat. N 25% (or total points)
A sorted list (ordered from max to min) would be better.
I have ten totals like this document.getElementById('CatA').value = sum; ... then sum 1, sum 2... but i am not able to write each sum to a table in a new page.
note that I do not have server side technology, php mysql or whatever.

I am going to use onkeyup event when the user is writing and my problem is that I wont to make a function that takes in input from the user and put it in the url. So I need to be able to write and read from the url without refreshing the page. I've managed to do this using window.location.search but I cant get it to work because the page keeps refreshing.

I have a series of video links. On each click, I want to open the video modaly. I thought of using internal divs for each video (hidden at page load) but then it didn't seem to be a good practice since I would need 5 div for each video's player. So, I thought of preparing the player in external file, pass the variables with PHP and play the video file. My player is JW and the videos are FLV.
