Onload Functions And Data Formatting?
Jan 11, 2012
If I already have a javascript code to format currency (add $ sign to beginning, commas after 3rd and decimal precision) can I call that function in the body onload to change the color of negative values to red?

im sure this will be pretty simple, at the moment i have some code which sends text from a textarea to a php file, the php file then stores the data into a database.the javascript post is as follows:
var text = document.getElementById(area).value;
http.open('post', 'autosave.php?text='+text);
there is a little bit more to this(just a handle response).My issue is that when the data is passed through javascript newlines and breaks disappear, so when i call the saved data it is presented as one long string with no formatting.i tried the nl2br() function and htmlspecialchars() function in the php file that the javascript passes the data to, this made no difference. I then tried to replace /n with <br /> in the javascript before passing the text variable again this made no differnce.

I have two onload functions. The first one works when the second one isn't in the code. But when both functions are present, only the second one works.
here's the code:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
onload=function(){
var divs=document.getElementById('stars').getElementsByTagName('div'), d, i=0;
while(d=divs[i++]){
[Code]....
Basically the code allows you to click on a star to rate a field in a form.

I have my page here [URL]. There is a tab system on the page that uses javascript. View the source the see the javascript file (tabber9.compressed.js). Now, on my end, I am adding some tracking code. The code looks like this:
<SCRIPT TYPE='text/javascript' LANGUAGE='JavaScript'><!-- //
window.onload = initPage;
function initPage() {
if (this.GetCustomerGUID)
document.forms["Test"].elements["CustomerGUID"].value = GetCustomerGUID();
}//--></SCRIPT>
The problem is, when I add this code to my footer, it breaks the tab system. The tabs don't work any more. I am not a JavaScript expert by any means (or else I would have known what the issue is! lol) but, I guess it has something to do with the window.onload function? I say that because I see the window.onload code in the tabber javascript as well.

I have a web page that has a short flash show on it, then it redirects to the main site index page, using a setTimout in body onload. That was all working fine. Now I need to add an OS detection function to redirect iphone and ipad users immediately (bypassing the flash pape). So, I have 2 functions that need to be in the body onload. I figured the logical thing to do would be to write another function that calls the first 2, then put that one in the onload. But now nothing is working. I have played with in for an hour with no luck.
Just as a note: Original, before I had to add the OS detection, there was just the delayer function, and it was called thusly:

I am writing a web page that accesses Mysql database data through PHP then dynamically displayes the Mysql data when the user mouses over different parts of an imagemap. I use Javascript OnLoad function to load the Mysql data into the header and then I use the Onmouseover function to change the display dynamically.
Here is my question; when I mouse-over a part of an image the data in my side bar changes (exactly what I want) but I can't seem to make the data linkable. For example, when a user mouse-overs a certain part of the image, on the side bar it displays the companies web adr. How do I make that data a link? On the initial load the default data displayed is linkable but because I use <div> </div> to change the data dynamically, I loose the likability.

I'm trying to send data to 2 different functions using the same selectbox. 1 function only needs a "ID" as value like this:
Code HTML4Strict:
<select name="ccountry" onchange="getState(this.value)">
<option value="1">USA</option>
<option value="2">England</option>
</select>
The other one needs an url like this:
[Code]...
I have an idea, but not sure how to do it... If I use the last example and then somehow in my javascript function would be able to, like in php, extract the code=1 so I would get only the "1"...

I am writing a form that grows using ajax server responses to info as the form is filled in and everything is fine in standards compliant browsers but IE is having a problem. I have two js functions on the page that collect form data, send it to the server, and then write the server response as innerHTML to specified divs on the page. This works great in FF but in IE it runs the first function but fails on the second function and the two functions are identical except for the server routine.
The div that is populated with the server response so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the coding because if one works, and they are identical, the other should work too so perhaps IE is choking with the way it is handling two ajax objects on the same page? You will need to add something to the shopping cart first at [uRL] and proceed to checkout, then on the checkout page look in the url and change ste_chkout_proc to ste_checkout_proc and load the new url to see the dev checkout vs. the live checkout.

I wander what gets loaded the fastest (1-2 or 3) in what succession:
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
function andAction() {
// doing stuff
}
</script>
</head>
<body onload="andAction();">
<script type="text/javascript">andAction()</script></body>
just in the head and nothing more
This I am sure off:
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
window.onload = function andAction() {
// doing stuff
}
</script>
</head>
<script type="text/javascript">andAction()</script></body>
just in the head and nothing more (should be 1)
Third and last which is faster:
body onload or window.onload

I'm seeing a difference in behaviour between
window.onload = f();
and
<body onload="f();">
Specifically, window.onload appears to fire before all the elements of
the page have been rendered. As the difference is consistent across
IE/Moz/Opera, I'm assuming it's deliberate - can anyone point me
towards where this behaviour of window.onload is defined in the
documentation? TIA. Code:

I have read about using a SSI to incorporate .txt files into your site.
Okay, I did that, but the Items do not word wrap i.e "<br>
How can I get each item in the .txt file to break after each is printed using a SSI??
*Details
-----------------
The .txt file is a listing of songs that get updated everyday and it is being put into a scroll area.
I work in Notepad (does it matter for creating .txt)?
-----------------
I need to know as soon as possible 'cause I want the site to go "Live".

I have written a number of functions designed to return frequency data on 1000 randomly chosen numbers using different math functions for the rounding. I would like to include all of these functions within the wrapper of another function so that only one call is needed to get returns from all of the 'inner' functions. However, while each of the functions works in isolation, the moment I wrap them in another function they stop working. :confused:
The following code is one of the functions 'frequencyWrapperOne' that has been wrapped in the function 'testWrapper'. A call to testWrapper does nothing.
function testWrapper()
{
function frequencyWrapperOne()
{
