Is there a way of doing this with javascript?
I have a homepage, that has to go to a certain directory, find the newer TXT file, get the first paragraph, get it formated with H1 tag, then read the rest format it with a P tag.
So everytime a new TXT file is created in that directory the homepage (HTML/index.html) change.

Is it possible to take a url from a text box and request the HTTP Response Header and then document.write() it? I'm envisaging a form into which a user can enter a url and receive the Response Header information. Could I achieve this with JavaScript?

I am using the tablesorter plugin and am experiencing the following problem:
Under several scenarios the up/down arrow icons will overlap with the text in a column's header. This occurs if the browser is resized so the table width is too narrow (e.g. plugin should force a min-width perhaps?).
More importantly, this will also occur when the text in a columns header is shorter than any of the values in the column the up/down icons overlap with the text in the column header.
I've attempted setting padding on the header columns but no success (probably because the up/down icons are set as background images and therefore have no impact on padding)
At the moment the plugin won't be usable for me since the arrorws overlap with the text in several columns.
What I want is that everytime the user does a mouseover on Contact he can see the info on class para1. When he does a mouseover on Description he can see para2. Then on More he can see para 3. Yet if he wants to see the description he can do so. Once he is out of the popupbox description the popup box should disappear.I am trying, on a mouseout, display nothing. Yet if the user hovers over Description he will be able to see the para2 and if he hovers over More he will be able to see para 3. If he doesnt hover any of those then the popupbox doesnt display for any of the three.

I need to load the content of the file into a variable in my script. I prefer that all the words will be in the same variable with line breaks, but if you'll figure out a way to put it in an array, it's ok too. I thought this would be easy. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) now has a way of getting stream flow data from a REST URL. There are different parameters that can be passed, based on which river gauge is desired, which parameter (ie: water temp, water level), and how many days requested. Below is one such URL:

I also tried dojox's window.name method. That was an adventure. I did what the example told me to do...assigning the call to "deferred". I did get the return XML, but the only way I could see it was to assign it to a DIV. I found no way to assign it to a variable for later processing.
I am working on a firefox extension. The job is to sit in the status bar and as I type into any form on any webpage, listen for keyboard events, then modify the key pressed by mapping it to some foreign unicode character and then sending it to the form in focus.
As I see it, there are two ways I can achieve it.
1) Capture the event, modify it and then send it and not be concerned with the form in focus.
2) Capture the event, prevent default action., find a unicode mapping for the key pressed, find the form in focus and based on the type of form, call a method to explicitly insert the mapped character at the cursor position.
Right now I am not able to find a way to do either. Once I get the focused element, I can do something to it. But I am not yet able to get that. I even tried document.activeElement, but it doesnt seem to work in firefox.

But is there any way to replace 'document' whit an external url so you can obtain data from a specific cell in a table on another webpage. Maybe like this (I know this isn't even close to be able to work...):
