Object And Embed Text File
Sep 3, 2007
<object id="alerttest" name="alerttest" data="alert.txt" type="text/plain" width="100" height="100">I am here!</object>
Well it seems that when I do document.getElementById("alerttest").innerHTML; my result is "I am here!" thought I need the contents of the text file. How would I get the contents of the text file ?

I want to access the features of a plugin without actually embedding
it into a page. Is this possible? Eg
The code to embed the object into a page is:
<OBJECT classid='CLSID:7FA62735-AHC3-14d2-9F81-00114B3245C5
codebase='http://www.test.com/plug.cab#version=3,1' "id='myPlugin'
height=Ɔ' width=Ɔ'>
<EMBED type='application/x-myPlugin' name='myPlugin' hidden='true'
src='in.txt'></EMBED>
</OBJECT>
I could simply add this using document.write, but for various reasons
I dont want to do this.
I would rather do something like:
var plugin = (navigator.mimeTypes &&
navigator.mimeTypes["application/x-Web-Plugin"]) ?
navigator.mimeTypes["application/x-Web-Plugin"].enabledPlugin : 0;
myObj = new object("CLSID:7FA62735-AHC3-14d2-9F81-00114B3245C5");
myObj.pluginMethod

I am attempting to implement a javascript joystick plugin. The project has a google code page located at: [URL]
After installing the plugin, the javascript works flawlessly in IE and FF, however chrome has some issues with executing it. A hosted version of what I am having trouble with can be found at [URL]
The issue seems to be with a snippet of code from the main script that attempts to create an object and embed it on the page. The trouble area can be found here: try
{
ctrlFF.type = "application/x-vnd.numfum-joystick";
ctrlFF.width = 0;
ctrlFF.height = 0;
/*

Chrome doesn't seem to support the .setDevice function, as when running the chrome developer tools inspect element tool, I can see it throw an exception at that line, and prompts the user to update java, because it thinks it is out of date.

I have some Javascript which says this:
Now that is fine when the text is only one line long. Suppose it's longer? What I want to do is have Javascript give the variable contentString its text from a hosted text file in a similar manner to the way Javascript can insert more Javascript using a hosted .js file.
I illustrate what I need to do using some "dummy" javascript:

I have a form with three Input File form objects in which the user can add image files. But I am worried about the problems these controls can lead, because to check the file size the server needs to receive the entire file, so serious problems may happen, for example:
1. Malicious user trying to collapse the website sending big files.
2. Users that have not seen the warning “Maximum size: 100 KB for each image, and try to send three image files consisting in 1,5 MB each one. These users will have a bad experience waiting one hour or more to upload the images, and after that receive an alert saying “Oooops! Your image files are too big. And also, web server will waste an important amount of resources. The same case with 100 users at the same time can be a nightmare!
I have been searching a way to check the file size on client side without having to force user to install anything, but I think that there isn’ t nothing to do with javascript. But I found an interesting PHP article that explains a way to do it with this server side language. The technique consists in:
“A hidden field (measured in bytes) that precede the file input field, and its value is the maximum filesize accepted. This is an advisory to the browser, PHP also checks it. This form element should always be used as it saves users the trouble of waiting for a big file being transferred only to find that it was too big and the transfer failed. Code:

I'm writing a script and I've encountered a problem.. I have a txt file with many words, each word in a different line. For example: the file words.txt contains:
word1
word2
word3
word4
word5
I need to load the content of the file into a variable in my script. I prefer that all the words will be in the same variable with line breaks, but if you'll figure out a way to put it in an array, it's ok too. I really don't know how to do it, and I tried to google but didn't understand.. By the way, I don't want to change the txt file to js file, I need it to remain txt..

I have a folder of images from which I access individual pictures using the ID[Who] variable index passed down from the parent frame plus a local index variable p.
document.write('<img src="Photos/'+ID[top.Who]+p+'.jpg" width="100" border="3"><BR>');
where an example file in Photos is PhotosAndiamo1.jpg, the ID in this case resolving to "Andiamo" and the local variable is = 1. This works great.
I would like to add a file of text captions associated with the pictures, preferably saved in the Photos folder such as PhotoAndiamo1.txt.
While I can fetch the images easily by document.writeing the <img ....> command, how do I do a similar fetch for the text data and document.write it to the HTML? (Short of the hassle of creating text images and fetching those.)

I'm developing a web app in which I have a file upload option. The thing is, my file input is hidden, and instead, a textbox and a button are used, in order to style the input, copy the file input's value and allowing the user write a link address into the textbox (the php upload page recognizes the text in the textbox and takes action if the text is a hyperlink or a file upload).
The problem is, when I submit the form, the php is catching the file input's value as empty. So I removed the hidden property of the file input, in order to check what was wrong, and I noticed the input's value is being reset on form submit. When not hidden it takes me two button clicks to submit the form, being the first one the responsible for cleaning the file input. Though, if I assign it's value directly from the input object, it works perfectly.
Here's the code:

I have a problem, when I load jquery.js from local, my test server is Apache 2.2.14 and PHP 5.3.1. The code is :
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "[URL]">

<script language="javascript">
$(function() {
$("input").click(function(){
alert('Hello World!');
});
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<lable>pwd : </lable><input type="text" name="text" value="name"/>
</body>

The browser alert (Missing Objects) in localhost. But if I change src to '[URL]', or double click html and run in the browser, it takes effective. So I think there are some problems in my Apache conf file.

I have an XML file hosted by my ISP free web space. It naively treats
the file as text/plain. I would like to convert this data into a DOM
object. So far my googling has turned up nothing, although looking over
the DOM manual on Mozilla I came up with:
function convertDOM(text)
{
var lines = text.split("
");
var dom = document.createDocumentFragment();
for (var i = 0; i < lines.length; i++)
{
var node = document.createTextNode(lines[i]);
dom.appendChild(node);
}
return dom;
}
The returned object is not treated as an DOM object.
Anything I am missing / A different approach maybe?

I'm trying to make a few SOAP calls using jQuery. What I'd like to be able to do is read the results of my first SOAP call in as XML, convert that to a jQuery DOM object, make modifications using jQuery selectors, and then output the DOM object as XML text and submit it back to the SOAP receiver. So far I've managed to get my SOAP response read in via the $.xmlDOM plugin. My next question is: how can I convert the DOM object this plugin creates to XML easily (and by easily I mean: without running an on-the-flyparser or similar structure over it to extract all the tags etc.)? I've tried using the .xml property to get this, but the DOM object generated by the $.xmlDOM call doesn't have said property. Is there an easy way to convert jQuery DOM objects back and forth between text and object representation?

I have an object- or whatever it's called- with the number 10 on it. The code looks something like
Code:
<div id="tile10" style="left:200px; top:300px" onclick="move(10)">
10
</div>
How would I change that number 10 to a random number between 1 and 8 from a function called initialize? I know I could randomize the number like:
Code:
var x = Math.ceil(Math.random() * 8);
However, I'm not sure how I would change the text in tile10 to that random number.

I have a jwplayer in my page, and I've placed a short text describing it underneath it. Works fine in FF and Chrome, but in IE the text vanishes after you click the "Allow blocked content" permissions to allow activex controls.This is what it looks like:
<object classid='clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000' width='450' height='277'
id='single1' name='single1'><param name='movie' value='jwplayer/player.swf'><param name=
'allowfullscreen' value='false'><param name='allowscriptaccess' value='always'><param name=[code]........
Here is my description text.<br/> If I place the text above the object, then it shows up fine. I'd rather not put it there, but I can if I can't figure the problem out.
