Moving Iframe To Different Location On Page Without Causing It To Reload?
Jul 4, 2009
I have an iframe somewhere on my page. Now on click of a link, I would like to show it in a different location on the same page, BUT I don't want it to reload again. I've tried this simple method but it doesn't do it because the iframe reloads in its new location.
<script type="text/javascript">
function move(what, where)
{
document.getElementsByID(where).innerHTML = document.getElementsByID(what).innerHTML;
}
</script>
[Code]...

I'm writing a script, part of which calls an AJAX request to populate a table. This script runs when the page is first loaded and when different buttons are clicked on the page (I won't go into the details here). It works just fine when the page is first loaded, but whenever the function is called from any other event on the page (onclick, etc) it performs the function, but then proceeds to reload the whole page!
I've spent a long time debugging and trying to figure out exactly where the trouble is starting, and the only thing I can think is that some sort of "reload page" command is being sent to the browser somewhere that I'm not seeing. In Firefox, after the request is complete and the response data is written to the page, the page reloads. However, in Safari, the page reloads after the readyState is 1, so the request hasn't even been sent yet.
Here is the offending function:
Javascript Code:
function fillLogTable(date, org, poc, name)
{
document.getElementById("visitLogTableDiv").innerHTML = "<br />Loading...";
//fetch the logs
[Code]....

I'm using a .click event handler to add new classes to 9 list items. It does this perfectly, but once it's been clicked it reloads the page and everything resets!Here's the jQuery:
$("#diamond").click( function() {
$("#storage ul li#1").addClass("box1-diamond");
$("#storage ul li#2").addClass("box2-diamond");
[code]....

Is there a difference between right clicking an iframe and reloading post reponse vs. using javascript to reload the frame? So far, the javascript route hasn't worked for me. [some context] I am writing a little bookmarklet to help me with the online registrations at my school. Here is the setup.
Load up a page on the domain. Remove all body elements. Insert an iframe. Set iframe to page for class roster search. (in iframe on school search page) Select class search options, POST the form data, and view results in frame. *This works perfectly, but I need to have it refresh results every minute or so. When I use frame.contentDocument.location.reload(true); the frame loses the post data or something and the page is broken. BUT when I just right click on the frame and select "reload frame" it works perfectly. What is the difference between rightclicking the frame and refreshing it like that vs. using javascript to reload the frame?

I have an instance where I do some work in a page contained in an iframe and then need to either outright move or just copy the resulting page elements into the parent page. All of the back end stuff works fine, but the Javascript just runs and doesn't produce anything. The script in question:
Code:
var AddressListDiv = parent.document.getElementById("AddressListDiv");
var ListPanel = document.getElementById("ListPanel");
for(var LPC = 0; LPC < ListPanel.childNodes.length; LPC++)
{
[Code]....
I think I'm running into a restriction in Javascript, but I'm not 100% sure.

I have the script below (lend by one of the geniuses of this wonderful community) and as you'll see it reloads the page products.php every 3 seconds without any visitor noticing it. Simply wonderful.
Now the problem: products.php contains divs with information, but it also contains an iframe. The iframe is calling an URL that displays videos.
When products.php is reloaded the information changes (is coming from a xml file) and the iframe contents are also reloaded which causes the video stream to blink every 3 seconds. Therefore, the iframe should not be reloaded. What can I do, how should I modify the script to reload everything inside of products.php but the iframe??
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function getHTTPObject() {
var request = false;
try {
[Code].....

I have an webbpage, and in the middle of it there is an iframe to a php site. So i have used this code, so after some seconds the iframe will send the guest to another page. <meta http-equiv="refresh" traget="_top" content="5 url=http://mypage.com"/> But the thing is that i want the WHOLE page to reload, and go to that page after 5 seconds (we can say). With that code, only the iframe are going to another page. Is it possible to make the whole page send the user after some seconds, to another page and not only the iframe?

What I would like to do is have a page with a dropdown menu, and depending on which option the user chooses from the dropdown, reload the page and display a particular iframe below the dropdown, based on the users choice. Also, a default iframe would load (the one connected to the default choice in the select box). I was trying to make this work with PHP (without having the user having to click a submit button) but I couldn't find a way to make it happen.

I currently have a website with a number of menu items, many of which result in the main site being redisplayed but with an iframe being inserted somewhere within the middle of the page. The iframe is initially loaded as hidden but there is a JavaScript 'onload' routine which calculates the height of the iframe and then makes it visible in order to avoid the iframe showing scrollbars since the content of the iframe is variable.
Roughly, things look like this:
Menu button: reloads main page and passes one or more parameters, e.g. [url]
Then elements of the main page including the menu are displayed. Then, if specified by the relevant 'func' parameter the iframe is shown using code similar to the following:
This works fine but I was wondering whether there is any way of using jQuery such that I don't have to reload the page when the menu item is clicked. In other words, you'd click on the menu item and the relevant iframe would be inserted within the middle of the website, automatically sized.

I know next to nothing about javascript and I don't even know if this is possible. I need to target window.location.href to an iframe on a different page. So, right now, the piece of the code that redirects the browser looks like this: window.location.href='http://www.somewhere.com/'; Works great, brings it up in the same browser window. So now I need to modify the code so it goes to a different page and brings that page up in a specified iframe.

I'm popping a window to a page with a different dns than the parent, and
i want the opener's location reloaded when this window is closed.
With Mozilla it seems that all the opener's methods and properties are
protected because the dns are different. A security exception
(permission denied) is thrown every time i try to exec an
"opener.location.reload()" from the pop up window.
An alternative would be catching the window closing from the opener, but
i don't know how this could be done.

I'm having a hell of a job getting this to work in Safari: the only thing I can think of is that one can't use reload() across to another frame for security reasons. Does anyone have a concrete answer or solution for this? I'm trying to do this:
top.frames["mainContent"].location.reload();

i am invoking window.opener.location.reload function from a pop up window to reload the parent page. But this seems to behave randomly. Sometimes the reload would preserve form data eg. the state of the drop down lists. On some other occasions, it would reset all the drop down lists and form data. Does window.location.reload resend form data to the server?

Code:
<a name="loc"></a>
<a href="#loc" onClick="document.location.href='#loc'
document.location.reload(false);return false">Click here to go to your location</a>
When you click onto the link you should go to the page location marked by the anchor tag "loc", however, upon clicking you go to the top of the page and never redirected to the exact spot where your anchor tag is located. Why is that? I'm using IE6 (per requirement) as my platform.

I have a popup that contains a form. When I submit that form, I need 1) the data to get saved into my database, 2) the popup to close, and 3) the parent window to refresh and display the updated data.
I found the following code in an old thread, but the parent window still shows the old data after it appears to reload. The data is saved in the database, but the parent window only shows the updated data when I manually refresh it by hitting F5.
Code:
<form action="process_form.php" method="post" onSubmit="window.opener.location.reload(true); window.close();">

I wonder why firefox won't work with this script below, but it works on IE, Safari, and Chrome instead?
Code:
$(document).ready(function(){
$(window).resize(function(){
location.reload();
[Code]....
The reason to reload the page is to reload the google map when the window is being resized.

I am using the following javascript on the target page to open it as top location from within an iframe, which is working ok.
<script type="text/javascript">
if(self!=top) {
top.location.href=location.href
}
</script>
However my problem occurs when the user uses the browsers back arrow to return to the previous page, the script executes again returning them once more to the page they have come from. Is anyone aware of a work around to this problem as it would seem there isn't one? perhaps even a better solution for opening the target page from the iframe as top location. This is really causing confusion for users, and I really need to get the issue fixed.

I believe I'm having an issue with the jQuery Cycle plugin. For the duration of the occurrence of a transition, the page appears to be "jumping" due to the fact that the site content is centered vertically and horizontally and the transition is making (inactive) scrollbars disappear entirely. I have not witnessed this personally in Safari/Firefox on Mac or Firefox/IE8 on Windows, but a colleague took a video of it happening on their machine with Firefox (Mac). Some see this problem, and others don't—I haven't been able to narrow it down. I also can't put overflow:hidden; on <body>, as I need the site to scroll if the browser window is too small.Here's the video, it's a 1.8 MB QuickTime file:[URL]
