Jquery :: Twitter Horizontal Ticker Stops Overflow And ScrollTo

Sep 30, 2011

I have this tweet ticker code that scrolls a live feed at the very top of the header. It runs on jQuery 1.5.0. The site I have has a vertically scrollTo div for each button pressed on the navigation. The problem I'm having is that as soon as I plug in the jQuery 1.5.0 which turns on the tweet ticker, it stops the overflow and the scrollTo. So when I click on any of the navigation buttons it jumps to the next page rather than scrolling smoothly.

ScrollTo Only If Horizontal Scrollbar

Jul 23, 2005

How to tell if a horizontal scrollbar is present? I only want to use
scrollTo if horizontal scrollbar is present.

window.scrollbars.visibility doesn't specify which scrollbar is
present, so it gives a false result if there is vertical scrollbar but
not horizontal scrollbar.

Continuous Horizontal Variable Width Image Files Ticker?

Mar 10, 2009

My client wants a ticker, only with client logos. I've found several scripts which are cool, though no one is precisely what I'm after. Company logos vary in their proportions. I'd like ideally a script able to continuously horizontally animate images of the same height, but with variable widths. Found plenty of scripts moving same width images left/right, or using a carrier (table/div/layer) to contain a set of variable width images - the latter leads to blank moments my client doesn't like while the carrier is repositioned.

I'm very intrigued as to why this doesn't seem to have been done and wonder if there's a reason. Is the computation needed in passing widths in a variable to a move function too much for the client-side? I don't want to waste my time wading into repurposing a script for this if it's not viable as I can't pass that cost on to the client, you see. I'd rather bail and do it using Flash.

Removinng Overflow-y Hidden/setting Overflow-y Visible?

Nov 12, 2010

I'm currently building a website that has a flash fullscreen popup at the beginning. The flash popup loads fullscreen, therefor I've set overflow-y to hidden. As soon as the flash popup is done, it removes the div it the flash is in using javascript, but I can't figure out how to put the overflow-y to visible.

I'm assuming I need to build a Javascript function to show overflow-y visible, and then need to call to that function from the flash file. I just can't figure out how to build the javascript function since I suck at javascript.

All the CSS is in the original file, so not in an external stylesheet, this needs to stay that way because I have to implement the code in to several different web sites.

JQuery :: Event After Twitter On Complete?

Jan 22, 2010

I was wondering if there was an event thrown after the twitter items are generated on the page. There is an example here. I cannot seem to get the li items to change after they are loaded. I have tried using .ajaxComplete, but it doesn't seem to be working. Does anyone know what events are thrown after the above code, and that doesn't need user input? You could you alter the above code and fork your own version. For ideas on examples that could be created; you could change all spaces to periods or periods to exclamation marks.

JQuery :: Firefox/Twitter Code Clash?

May 12, 2010

I have created a new theme for Rapidweaver and integrated some neat JQuery animated sliding panels and frankly I was feeling pretty chuffed with my efforts as I am far from a JQuery expert.[URL]..In the side panel on the left, I have embedded a Titter feed widget, lifting the code direct from Twitter. In Safari, Chrome, Opera and even jolly old IE this works fine. But Firefox has a fit and displays a blank page - or just plain won't load. If I remove the Twitter widget the page loads perfectly happily. If I disable Javascript in FF, the page loads (but there is no animation etc) - so there is clearly a JQ/Javascript/Twitter script issue going on here that is causing FF to freak out...

Of course the simple solution is not to add the Twitter feed, but since this is exactly one of the uses I was planning for this sliding panel, that's a fat 'non' option. All the JQuery code I have used for the theme has 'no conflict' calls and I have even added specific calls for specific code - so stuff like:

JQuery :: ID Naming Conventions And $.scrollTo()?

I was peaking around on the W3C site to see if I could find a clear definition of which characters are allowed within an ID.The problem is that I have a series of divs that have id="aq-1234" "cd-456" etc. I have no real control over the - in the name. What would be another way of clearly identifying an object without the id? <td id="aq-1234"> is what I have now. I've not used the rel="xxx" that I see some people use. Would that be acceptable? Clearly $("#aq-1234") is not.

JQuery :: ScrollTo Plugin And Target Focus?

Jun 1, 2010

I'm using the following script to successfully scroll links, however, I am having trouble getting the page to focus on the hash target. Instead, the page focus stays with the link that initiates the function rather than the intended target:

$(function(){
$('a[href*=#]').click(function(){
if (location.pathname.replace(/^//,'') == this.pathname.replace(/^//,'')
&& location.hostname == this.hostname){
var $target = $(this.hash);
$target = $target.length && $target || $('[name=' + this.hash.slice(1) +']');
if ($target.length){
var targetOffset = $target.offset().top;
$('html,body').animate({scrollTop: targetOffset}, 300);
$(this.hash).focus(); // Not working
return false;
}
}
});
});[code]....

I've tried using this.hash (as above) and it doesn't work, though I can set the focus to the top of the page like so (not what I want):
$('html,body').focus();
