Nov 18, 2011I'm trying to execute a simple JSON request using getJSON but I can't get a successful response. My code is below. If I run this I always receive an error. If I add "callback?" (making it JSONP) then I can see the correct results in Firebug but the call back function is never executed.

The data is multidimensional, and I have been able to use this data within the callback function. However I want to use it outside that function. i.e. the jsdata returned in the code below is to be used outside the function

Apr 13, 2010I use the getJSON request to fill a select (with cities names) after the user have choosen his region.

The problem is that callback is never called. I used firebug and i have seen that when i change region the getJSON function is called and my script (python) return this JSON:
Why my callback is not called? I can't even get the alert ('callback time!'). I thinked that my json could be broken, but firebug net console read and parse it very well, so i think is valid JSON.
I also tried to split up the function declaration from the getJSON request, but it's no use.

Ajax :: Variable Is Undefined Outside Of Callback Function?
Mar 4, 2009I have been trying to figure this out for a few days now and have finally come to the point where I think I got it but may just need a little push to get what I want.
Heres the situation:
I have this function that uses ajax to access a database and returns the results in the responseText. That part is working fine, I have confirmed that the responseText contains the information that I need

As evidence by my posting, this is not working correctly. The variable response_recieved is coming up undefined outside of the callback function assigned to the onreadystatechangeproperty.
Based on the information that I have gathered online from various forums, I believe this issue has to deal with a problem with closure in the callback function assigned to onreadystatechange property. I don't think it has any. Based on the fact that there is no anonymous function in that function. But my problem is that the call back function is anonymous itself... I think???
get the variable response_recieved to survive outside of this function.

Dec 8, 2010I have setup a little example here: [URL] It is JSONP because of cross site policy. The returned JSON is valid, you can check the response in firebug. The callback function is not fired.
Tested with jquery 1.3.2, 1.4.2 and 1.4.4. Same result.

May 5, 2011I'm doing some cross domain JSON requests and I'm unable to use query strings on my webservice calls (similar to codeignitor requests but without the work-arounds, qs params are entirely off the table). Is there another way I can format the callback variable to the url request?
for instance if I need to call the following url:

Feb 8, 2010I've been attempting to use 1.4.1 but I'm finding that $.get() and .getJSON() callbacks fail. The XHR requests succeed. I can examine the full request in both Chrome and Firebug. However, the callback functions *don't* execute. To test, I tried the same url with both 1.4.1, 1.3.2, and via a raw XMLHttpRequest(). Sep 30, 2010I have some problem using the $.post function. I wrote a function that test if a username is already used in my database. That function must return true if the username is free and false in the other case. My problem is that I use the $.post function and I put the return true; and return false; in the callback function. So it's the callback function that returns true/false instead of my function !

Aug 5, 2010I'm a jQuery novice and I think I've gotten myself in over my head here. I have a #Calculatebutton with a click function attached which, when clicked, iterates through a form and sends the users input values, via $_GET, to a php script called'prepsession.php'. Here the inputs are validated and sanitized, a session is started and some session variables are created using the form input values. If there are any errors I want error messages displayed beside the form. Everything works fine up to this point.
If this script runs ok without giving any errors I would like to fire another php script called'printsummary.php'which accesses the previously created session variables and inserts them into a div #PanelContent. The reason I am usingseparatephp scripts for this is that I would like to be able to print my data in various different ways so I have numerous php print scripts accessing the session variables.
