JQuery :: Sending Textarea Val With Line-breaks Included?
Apr 1, 2011
using the ajax function ($.ajax()) to send the value of a textarea to an php file. This works fine. But the data, which i`m sending to to the php file, is without any line-breaks.Here is my ajax request:
var myTextareaVal = $('#message-textarea').val();
$.ajax({
type: "GET",
How do I make line breaks in my xml file? This is what I got in my <head>: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('.quotes').randomContent({xmlPath: "xml/quotes.xml", nodeName: "quote"}); }); </script>
As you can see, it takes a random quote from my xml file. But I have some long quotes which I want to line break like this: <quote> This is a verry verry verry verry <line break> ... long quote. </quote>
I wonder if jquery or javascript has the function adding line breaks which can be similar to nl2br() in PHP? This is the info i want to grab from a database, PHP will add line breaks (<br/>) when it is passed into nl2br(),
I'm making a vaery specialized form to output html code to copy and paste. So far so good and I'm happy with the out come. I know it's a tad bloated but I actually wrote a little bit of it from what I've learned so I'm learning and that's the point.
So what happens is that I present my user with a form where they can slap in all the info and the out come is a copy and paste procedure after that.
In the "content" section, I'm sure there will be a few paragraphs of text being entered sometime, and most likely copied and pasted in. What I would like to happen is the script recognize carrige returns and enter in <br><br> in place of them. This is a wordpress issue so im not sure if closing a p and opening one is going to work right. Code:
I am passing data from a textarea to a div with javascript. The problem is the div is ignoring line breaks.
document.getElementById('layer1').innerHTML = document.getElementById('reply').value.replace(" ", "<br /><br />"); e.g... i entered this in the textarea test1 test5 test6
I pulled together a custom RSS twitter feed that uses javascript; however, when I tell the code to "callback" 3 posts, they all run together without line breaks. What is the best way to have breaks between the posts?
This page shows the html code (in the right sidebar): [URL]
This is my first time using the forums, so please excuse me if I do something wrong. On my website I am using jQuery 1.5.1 and the latest jQuery Form plugin. Wherever I have a textarea input, small inputs of less than about 10 characters fail to be sent to the server. For example, if I have a form: <form id="someform" method="post"> <textarea name="foo">
I have textarea with id,id_cusipvalue. I am getting the value using the following function$("#id_cusipvalue").val() When I send this data as GET url?+$("#id_cusipvalue").val() All the new line chars get stripped. How can I retain the newline chars?
I've done a form, basically is a group of textareas that will send the data inside them to a main textarea, something like:
textarea1: hi textarea2: this is a test main text area: hi this is a text
No the problem is that i have some text areas that have submenus like:
textarea3: - Subtextarea 1 - subtextarea 2
Even though they are hidden the parameters of all the textareas in my html are sent to the main textarea. I want this to send the data of the textareas only chosen by the user.
So if i choose : textarea3: - subtextarea 1
It will send this value and not from subtextarea 2 as well.
I couldnt paste my whole html here because is too long, but ill put what matters.
I'm pretty sure the mistake is in the function transfer() , because i'm putting "+" and this just adds the textareas and doesnt control which ones, but how can i use something like "if textarea1 is visible then show this in the main textarea"?
Code:
This goes in the <HEAD> <Script language="javascript"> function transfer(){ document.getElementById("textarea1").value='Summary of the case:
Here's my problem: I need to present text in a scrolling textarea such that a checkbox is not enabled until the user has scrolled to the very last line of the text using the vertical scrollbar.
Been searching for some functions to get scrollbar position for a textarea object but coming up empty.
getting first line coordinates of multiple line inline element.
Example HTML aaa bbb ccc ddd <span id="target">eee fff ggg hhh iii jjj</span>kkk lll mmm nnn ooo ppp qqq $(document).ready(function() {
[Code]....
Assume that span#target has a line break, when I see a browser. Then I click span#target, above function returns the head of coordinates which second line ("hhh") has. I want to have the coordinates which first line ("eee") has. How can I get that?
what I mainly want to do is to get the div's content and pass it in a variable. To explain what I have done until now :
I have my php file that contains the code :
<?php $connect = mysql_connect("localhost", "...","...") or die("Could not connect to the database."); mysql_select_db("...") or die("Could not find database <...>");
[Code]....
As I have read here, this should have done mydata="6" (is the current result)?
I've been working on getting a table with a super header and sub headers to only sort by the sub headers. The example at [URL] shows this is possible but everytime I try to run the code the items in the top row are used to sort columns starting with 0. I've tried two different versions of jquery and re-downloaded Tablesorter twice now. It seems as if this should be easy and I'm just missing some amazingly simple thing.
Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/ TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html> <head>
I'm in the process of building this Ballroom Dancing website that has a simple dropdown menu. The menu works if I immediately call jQuery right above the javascript for the menu, ie:
The problem is that I don't want to do this because I already have WordPress calling jQuery several lines above for some other plugins. Is there a reason why it will only work with jQuery included right above? You can visit the site at www.zumbasudbury.ca to see the non-working dropdown. Hovering over Ballroom should produce a dropdown of two items.
How would i change back to the default length of textarea?
I have this comment area that after clicking submit i will append the new comment in the list of comments through ajax... i got one problem though, everything is working perfectly well except for the textarea that won't change back to it's default size...
EXAMPLE:
The problem is that the textareawon't change back to it's default size // let's say that the default size is rows=3
Have a asp.net mvc project using jquery-ui-1.7.2. and BlockUI. When I changed jQuery version from 1.3.2 to 1.4.1, the CSS pertaining to the block ceased to render. The functions fired (verified by in-line alerts) and firebug had no complaints. Moved back to 1.3.2 and the blocker rendered perfectly.
How do I read a local text file line by line, one line at a time. I got upto opening a file, and can read whole file at a time. But I want to read just one line at a time. May be have a counter of lenght of the file and read only the counter number line at a time.
