JQuery :: Replace Form Select Of Large List Of Users?
Mar 27, 2011
I've been told that jQuery can do this.
Simple form which includes a drop down list of users obtained from a database which is displayed using a form select entry with options for each entry. problem is, the list can be quite long, upwards of several hundred.
In PHP, I added a filter box (text box) which the visitor can enter in a substring that is then used to obtain and display only matching entries. Works great, but it needs to reload the page to do its thing.
I've been told that jQuery can be used to do the same thing without having to reload the whole page.
The filter box would be used to call an existing PHP script which obtains the names based on the filtered string. I can change this script to output the data in any format necessary including raw format to full option formatted strings.
how to set this up so that it gets called and replaces the current option content.

I'd like some direction on creating a small piece of Javascript that will populate my <select> boxes. Basically, I have a form for users to create events, with a start time and an end time. (These are the two select boxes). For example:
Code:
<select id="startTime">
<option value="12:00AM">12:00AM</option>
<option value="12:15AM">12:15AM</option>
etc.....
</select>
What I am trying to do is:
1) Have times populated in 15 minute incrementals from 12:00AM to 11:45PM
2) Have some type of "error checking" available to where the End Time must be after the start time. It would be nice for the script to automatically change the end time field to a time that is after the start time.

I have a large string, but need to search for a specific character and replace it only if it is between two other items. Examplemystring would be something like this<parent><child1>1 & 2</child1><child2>1 & 2</child2><child3>1 & 2</child3></parent>I need to replace the & symbol in child2, but not 1 or 3. I am trying to figure out how to replace just any & signs in child2, but I need to leave them alone in child 1 and 3.I know I can do a replace(), but just not sure how to limit it to only the one I need

I have got a basic Unordered list of Options and I want to be able to click on one of the options and have that option added as a value to a Form Value Input on my submit form.Users will have a choice of around 200 options and I need them to just add one of them with a click to the submit form.I do not want to use a 'select' box to list the options,it has to be a visiable unordered list.

I've a large array of nearly 5000 entries and trying to populate those entries into a dropdown list of my webpage. By doing that so, it is taking so much time ( nearly 30 seconds ) and is freezing the page.
Is there any way to load such a big array into dropdown in efficient manner...
var handles = [ ... around 5000 entries .... ];
function populateHandles(){
objSub = document.getElementById('listBox');
for(x=0; x < handles.length; x++){

I need a plugin or a idea about how to develop a pagination using jQuery (JSON dict coming from the DB (postgre)), but i cant get a list of all itens in the DB. I tried using offset and limit from the DB, but i didnt like the large algorithm. All i need is: develop a pagination that gives me only 20 rows from the DB (without calling a query to paginate all table from DB) and build a pagination with "first page, previous page, X-2, X-1, X, X+1, X+2, next page, last page" (X = number of actual page).

I'm building on-the-fly <select> lists from JSON data fetched from the server. Some of then include a large number of items (>20,000).
The SQL and HTML parts are working fine. The AJAX script fetches data fairly quickly (around 1 second) and large selects are not a problem once they're built (the browser handles them nicely, even IE). The bottleneck is in the process of picking the JSON data and building the <option> tags. That can take a full minute.
What's the recommended (i.e. fastest) method to generate a large <select> list?
My current approach is this:
// Fetch data (GET method allows me to use browser cache)
$.get(url, get, function(jsonValues, txtStatus){
that.values = jsonValues;
}, "json");

I have a page that displays a list of people playing in a tournament. I need to be able to generate a Leaderboard based on which players are manually selected by the admin. Next to each person there is a drop-down list. An admin can go in and select a "slot" that a player should be in on the leader board from 1 to 8, or leave it blank if none. What I need to figure out how to do is the following, when a change event happens on a drop-down list, and say the value 5 is selected, I need to check to make sure that 5 is not already selected in one of the other players drop-down lists, in other words, that the 5th leaderboard slot is not already full. if it is, display an error message and make them change that one first. how to do that with jQuery? I'm thinking it will have something to do with the each() function, but not sure exactly how the logic should work.

I've seen a variety of implementations around that enable selecting all or no checkboxes by using a checkbox to toggle that choice. However, I'm trying to find a way like this: I have two text links on my page: Select All, and Select None. How can I get those links to call a jquery function to select all or select no checkboxes in my form? As a little food for thought:
<head>
$(function() {
//function for selecting all or none...is there a way to make a single function that passes in a parameter to differentiate between selecting all or selecting none, or do I need a separate function for both?[code]....

I have a MySQL table with 90 columns and I want the users to be able to select any columns they concern and output the result accordingly. In the front-end, I can use a group of checkbox which looks very ugly and I can not setup the orders for selected columns. Is there a plug-in or some examples in jQuery, that I can make 2 parallel boxes (i.e. an original-box and a selected-box). the original- box lists all of the column names at the beginning and there is a way to move items between two boxes. And the order of items in the selected-box can be adjusted. the items in the selected-box will be used to build into an array in my backend code.

I am having a problem with the submit() method that is driving me nuts. I'm using document.form.submit() with large text fields (approx. 2000 characters) and am getting a "Invalid Syntax" error. If I do the same thing with a text field of under 1500 characters, it works fine.
Is there some size limit here that I don't know about?

I am building a large registration form. In this form, a sponsor/educator must register himself or herself and then may add up to 6 more " delegates" in pairs. The first two pairs registration info on the form is shown by default. I need to hide the other two pairs until when/if the user clicks on a button to add two more delegates at a time. I used javascript to show or hide the parts of the form that I had put into two divs and adjusted the css display attribute. However, my problem was that, if the user filled out the sponsor/educator section and the first two delegates, and then decided to add two more, when the user clicked on the button to show the part of the form for delegates 3 and 4, it reset all the previous visible form fields to empty. Not good. So, I thought, maybe AJAX.
I created the request object (I am a relative novice at AJAX), had it grab a text file with the code to insert into my target div, in this case a div with id = "delegate3and4". Surprisingly however, it still reset the previous form fields to empty. Am I misunderstanding how AJAX is supposed to work? I figured that, because it does not refresh the page that this would not happen. In fact, to test this out, I created a simple page from scratch with just a single input field and then used AJAX to insert the file in a div after this field and it did not reset the previous input. So, I am totally confused about why this would be happening on my live page. The page is a php page as it submits the form to a php script for processing but I don't think this should make a difference.
