JQuery :: Re-write Option Values Only For IE7/8?
Dec 4, 2011
When using jQuery Cycle as a text scroller, because IE7/8 render text ugly when fading in and out, it's better to make text has no transition effect on IE7/8.
Instead of the following long-winded code, can we re-write one option value (ex: speed) only for IE7/8 after the text scroller has been launched?
if ($.browser.msie && $.browser.version.substring(0, 1) < 9) {
$('#textscroller').cycle({
speed: 0

I have 4 text boxes that are supposed to load 4 seperate values of data from one field in one table from a database. The field is called interface_cropsettings (from the interface table) and these values have been concatenated and comma seperated in this field.
Code:
Once the form is filled out and saved, the data is inserted into the database and the values from these 4 text boxes are concatenated, comma seperated and inserted into that one field correctly.
(Example)
If the 4 text boxes have the following values:
In the database field they become:
However, if the form is closed and then re-opened, each text box displays the entire database field rather then each value seperated in the corresponding text box.
(Example)
All 4 text boxes display this:
I already know why the data appears like this in the form, my problem is that I'm not sure how to write the javascript to seperate the values into the correct corresponding fields, assuming javascript is what I should be using!
Also, this is kind of irrelevant but just in case you're wondering, this form is part of a cold fusion application!

My mission: Open/collapse TD cells based on items selected in a list box. Getting no response from jQuery so I've done something wrong but cant quite get there. Listbox 'mainselect' contains option values that refer to names of TDs in a table. When a mainselect option is clicked, it will toggle to open or close the referenced TD list box by option value. Does hide/show make a TD 'blank' or actually set it's width to '0'? I want it to close, moving other cells left.

Having a small problem with writing out the matches from an array using a For loop.
I have two arrays, lets say arrayA and arrayB. In arrayB are numbers which are a number of miles, ie 1,2,6,4,5,6,6. And in arrayA are the days of the week. Each day of the week is associated with a mileage, ie Mon = 1, Tues = 2 etc.
My script has found the largest mileage in arrayB. Next I have to find the days of the week that match this highest mileage and write these out, along the lines of "The highest mileage was 6 run on Wed, Sat, Sun."
I have managed to get a For loop to work with this BUT..... I can only get it to write out the first instance of the day the match is found. ie "The highest mileage was 6 run on Wed,"
[CODE]
maximumDistanceIndex = 0;
for (var distance = 1; distance < distanceArray.length; distance = distance + 1)

I'm trying to develop fast, simple, html-based front ends
for some Windows application programs. My idea:
1. Use html forms to let users supply run parameters (title,
run options, etc.)
2. When the user presses a submit button:
a. The selected options for all the form fields are
written to an external file (e.g., c:projectinput.txt)
b. The application program, say, prog.exe, is executed.
This program then reads the run parameters from the file
input.txt and proceeds. Code:

I have a form which calculates values and gives the user a total depending on their selection in the drop down box. At the moment the value is displayed in a text field and I have got all the javascript to do this.
What I would ideally want is to embed the total in the page, rather than a text field. The total appears to the user like it is normal text in a page, only it will update when the form values are changed.
I presume that I want document.write to do this? Does anyone know how I could do this/ or if there is a page that does this sort of thing where i can 'borrow' the code?

I want to pass option values to superfish only if the browser is > IE6, so I thought to do this:

$(document).ready(function() {
$('ul.sf-menu').superfish({
if ($.browser.msie && $.browser.version > 6){
animation: {height:'show'},

but it isn't right. It breaks the javascript, and doesn't run at all. Anyone have some clues or answers for me? I don't use jquery or javascript enough to figure it out.

What I'm trying to do is get multiple options from a <select> list, and display the values in a text box. So here's my select:
<select name="js_strPreDefCatList" size="6" multiple="MULTIPLE" class="formtext">
<option value="All content">All content</option>
<option value="Region: Africa">Region: Africa</option>
<option value="Region: All Americas">Region: All Americas</option>
<option value="Region: All Europe">Region: All Europe</option>
etc.....
</select>
'// Followed by my button
<input name="Add1" type="button" class="formtext" value="Add" onClick="addPhrase()">
'// Then the TEXTAREA
<textarea name="js_strMemberMail" cols="40" rows="1" wrap="VIRTUAL" class="formtext"></textarea>
The function "addPhrase" is where i know i'm having the difficulty - so for now I've forced it to show one value only:
'// The form name is AMANDA
function addPhrase() {
document.AMANDA.js_strMemberMail.value = document.AMANDA.js_strPreDefCatList.value + ", " ;}
What I think I want is to be able to build up a string of values and write them out to the textarea (hence the ", "). With the option that more can be added, without deleting what's currently there.

I want to use document.write to output the values of an array. If the array is too long, it totally ignores the width of the container div. How do I get the values to word-wrap when they get to the end of the container?
I've searched on this forum, and also googled for the answer but can't find a solution. I'm still fairly new to Javascript.

A <select> box is dynamically created based on a table in the database. Using jQuery, the user can then select multiple email addresses (the value of the options in the select box), and remove them from the select box completely. This leaves only the email addresses the user wants to include in the email.
The problem I've encountered is that the once the user is done removing options they don't wish to include, they have to then select all the remaining options before hitting submit in order for the mail processor to see them as addresses to include.I was thinking maybe instead of the submit button, I just create another button tied to a jQuery function that selects all the remaining values, and then submits the form for the user?

I am working on an interest and investment calculator for a class project. On my list of drop down options, one of the options isnt an integer value like the rest. It's value is "other", while the other three are 1000, 5000, 1000, and 25000. What I would like to do is when the user chooses the "other amount" option from the drop down list, a prompt window will come up asking the user for an investment amount. I am having problems creating a function in my javascript file for this, and then taking the value entered and assigning a variable in another function with that new value so that it calculates with the users input. Please help. The first part of the attachment is the label with the "other" value I explained. And the second piece of code is my mess of a function that I tried to create for the prompt window to come up and store the users value and then change the value of the option.
This is in my HTML:
<label for="investment">One-Time Investment:</label>
<select name="investment" id="investment"
<optgroup label="">
<option value="1000">$1,000</option>

I am totally new to jQuery and no good knowledge on javascript. However, I was assigned a task, to convert a javascript program to jQuery due to compatibility problem on browsers like Chrome and Safari. My program originally use javascript xmlDoc.load('....') to read XML file, and then use document.write statement to write html tables on client side. Something like this (the sample below may got lots of syntax problem as I jut want to show the major part):
Code:
document.write('<TABLE >');
var y=x[0].getElementsByTagName('NoOfRows');
for (i=0; i<=noofrows-1 && i<=y.length-1; i++){
document.write(' <TD>');
document.write(z[j].getElementsByTagName('RecordDetails')[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue;
}
Now I changed to use jQuery, I can read the XML file elements. However, when I try to write the table, it failed:

Why doesn't this work? The input field doesn't show up at all. I know I'm just missing something really simple here.
<script type="text/javascript">
day = day.getDay()+1;
month = day.getMonth()+1;
year = day.getYear();
newdate= month + '/' + day + '/' + year;
document.write('<INPUT name=Date value='+ newdate + '>');
