JQuery :: Populating Multiple Select Boxes With Ajax?

Sep 1, 2011

I'm trying to populate select boxes depending on choices in other select boxes. In my case, the person has to choose a type of fixture type, then a select box with all the models would populate, and then a third select box with the watts have to populate.

In my code, the second select box is populating, but the third one is not. I'm sure that the problem is not in the php, but has to be in the jquery side. I'm a newbie in jquery and javascript.

Multiple Select Boxes :: Make The Select Boxes Appear AFTER You Select The Field Before?

Jul 24, 2009

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
/*[code]....

// This script supports an unlimited number of linked combo boxed

// Their id must be "combo_0", "combo_1", "combo_2" etc.

// Here you have to put the data that will fill the combo boxes

// ie. data_2_1 will be the first option in the second combo box

// when the first combo box has the second option selected

// first combo box

data_1 = new Option("Business Cards", "$");
data_2 = new Option("Club Flyers", "$$");[code].....

I have this code, and I was wondering if it is possible to make the select boxes appear AFTER you select the field before.

AJAX: Populating Text Boxes With Values From Database?

Jun 18, 2006

I have a dropdown (picklist) on the page, and when the user selects one of the company names in the list the onChange event fires and kicks in some AJAX to get the company's details from the database. The details are just the various locations of each company.

The way I am doing it now I have a simple div on the page below the picklist and I am using PHP to draw out the entire HTML, including the values sought from the database, and then just using innerHTML on the div to dump the info in there.

So I have PHP which concats text like:

"<input type="text" name="city" value="$city">"
"<input type="text" name="state" value="$state">"

and then the JS innerHTML's it into the div.

But it strikes me this is not really an efficient way to do this. Should I just have the PHP form an XML doc and then use that to populate the form fields?

If so how do I use the DOM to create text fields on the page, and then populate them with the info returned from the DB?

JQuery :: Multiple Select Boxes Changing A Div Value?

Oct 29, 2011

I'm not entirely familiar with jQuery coding, but I've given it my best shot to get this script working properly, and I can't seem to manage it. Here is my scenario: I'm creating a website for a friend who sells custom jewelery cuts. There are 4 different parameters you have to choose about your cut, and we would like to change the image displayed to match the parameters you select so you have a picture of what your going to purchase. The idea is like this:

I have managed to get it to update the image for a single select box, but then If I select another one it completely overrides the first one, and displays the second box. Here is what I have so far (and no it doesn't work :P):

Ajax :: Populating A Select Box From Database In IE

Feb 21, 2011

I am having an issue getting my select boxes working in IE. My current situation is that I have 2 select boxes, 1 for Styles and another for Substyles. Not all Styles have a Substyle, but each Style has a different Substyle, so when should happen is when you select a Style AJAX go and gets all of the matching Substyes for that Style.This actually works in Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera and so on, but does not work in IE.Just to clarify, all of my PHP is working 100% and as far as I am aware my HTML is also fine, I have done some checks with the JavaScript and im 80% sure that the problem lies on line 47.

AJAX :: Populating A Select Box With Options?

Jan 14, 2010

I have a problem with IE7 (Works fine in FireFox!).

I'm sending a Jquery AJAX POST request to get option values from a PHP script.

The php script returns a bunch of the following:

<option value='x'>xxx</option>

Ajax also sends a value to the PHP script, so if that value matches the option value, the option comes back pre-selected.

On success, the Ajax is to populate the SELECT BOX called 'one', with the data returned from the PHP script.

This works fine in FireFox, but in IE7 I get the following error:

Error: Unexpected call to method or property access.

The full ajax function is as follows:

function getbills(){
var transchk = "";
var tranrelation = $("select#catted_relatesto").val();
var tranrelation = escape(tranrelation);

AJAX :: PHP Multiple Dropdown - Populating From The Menu

May 25, 2009

The second menu is populating correctly from the first menu. The third menu doesn't work because it is not pulling the cat1 & cat2 values. I suspect it is the "checkNew" function, which I tried (with limited Javascript knowledge) to copy and alter from the "checkSelected" function.

JQuery :: Multiple Select Boxes Affecting Visible Items

Feb 17, 2010

I'm quite new to jQuery and have this working, though I'm fairly sure if this won't be an efficient way to do this. I have a form with each day of the week, and each day has a choice in the number of slots which then shows the correct number of slots for entry for that day.

The form:
<table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" class="DataTable"><tbody>
<tr>
<th>
Day
</th>
<th>
Slots .....

This is simplified just a little as there are more than the 1 input in an 'Entry Section' (eg .Entry3). The jQuery I have working here is:
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#frmSlots1").change(onSelectChange);
});
function onSelectChange(){ .....

That's working fine, except I do want to have 7 days so that would be quite a lot of replicated jQuery code. I am thinking there will be a way to identify the select item with the others so jQuery will know which to adjust without having to spell every single item out. Is there an easy way to achieve this in the above?

Ajax :: Populating Mutliple Select Box With JSON - Bug ?

Jan 31, 2011

I have a multiple select box that is dynamically populated based on a selection from another select box. There are 3 possible results:

1. Every click on the parent select box replaces the html of the child <select> with a "Loading..." message. Then it runs an ajax request to a server side page that returns JSON data back to the post-processing function.

In that post-processing function I check to see if any data was returned for that selection.

2. If data was returned, replace the child multi-select with the data.

3. If no data was returned then replace the child multi-select with a default message.

Now the problem I'm seeing. When I select an item from the parent select that I know returns data, the child multi-select seemingly doesn't update, but when I mouse over the select I see the changes.

BUT! On a whim, I created another <div> just to see if it was in fact a problem with the select, so everytime I updated the <select> I also updated this new <div>. Magically it all worked. So what I ended up doing is keeping the <div> there, just set it to display:none and now it works like it "should".

I'm using jQuery.ajax and jQuery.html to handle the processing.

Multiple Dropdown Select Boxes?

Nov 19, 2010

I'm populating a couple of dropdown boxes from an xml file, but can't get them working independently. As you can seehtmwhen you select an item from the first select box (a polyline), itdisplays the corresponding item from the other box (a polygon), too.I found this answer on the google maps forum:"Don't know of an example, but building two select boxes isn'tdifficult: pass into your createMarker() function the relevant flag,and add the data to one of two variables (instead of everything beingadded to select_html as now).You shouldn't need two handleSelected() functions -- both select listscan use the same function because each select box passes itself("this") into the function."which is what I thought I did (making sel_html and select_html) butmaybe the two variables being discussed here are different ones?cross-posted on the google maps forum here and here but not answered.

AJAX :: Populate 5 Select Boxes?

I have a product select page that is really slow to use because 6 dropdowns must be populated and the page reloads after selecting each box, to get the options for the next box.I want to speed it up as follows:

1) User selects one of 50 products from a dropdown list.

2) Page reloads, and all the possible options for the remaining 5 dropdown boxes are now populated (ie. list options all stored client side)

3) User can freely input the remaining 5 dropdowns without the page reloading.

AJAX :: Chain Selects - Hiding The Select Boxes?

Nov 12, 2009

Is it possible with AJAX chained selects to have one select box on the page and then have another select box appear depending on the selection from the first select box?[URL]Is it possible to hide the 2nd box until the first one was acted upon?

My goal is to start with one box (call it Box 1). Box 2 will then appear. Depending on Box 2's input, Box 3 will appear with new choices. Depending on Box 3's input, Box 4 will appear....so on and so forth until the end goal is met.

When additional boxes appear, I do not want the previous boxes to disappear. If PHP can populate the select boxes, I don't see why it also couldn't insert the physical select box.

Jquery :: Populating Select On Class

May 26, 2010

I have a site that can consist of one or several (up to 20) select boxes that all list the same data (TeamID, Team). There are about 8000 list items to be loaded in the select box.This data is fetched in a seperate file using php+sql and with javascript and ajax, I populate the boxes. Note that these are populated on page load and not based on a specific action/change. The script looks for select boxes that have the class="ajax-team-list". Well, the above works. My drop-downs are being populated. However, it takes an insanely amount of time (30 seconds in IE). Skipping the javascript and only using php to get the same output takes 2-4 seconds, so something must really be messed up in the code, or?Any ideas, suggestions or thoughts about an alternative solution? For whatever reason, Firefox loads the above code in 2-4 seconds, Chrome takes 12 seconds.. and like I mentioned, IE takes 30 seconds.
