<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
$("#hidden_link").trigger('click');
document.getElementById('login_form.username').focus();
});
</script>

Moving The Current Focus On A Web Page With Frames Using JavaScript?

Jul 20, 2005

I am designing a website for disabled football supporters and because
of this, I obviously must consider accessibility to blind users whilst
I am producing it - as they are one of the disability groups that I am
targeting the page at.

The page basically consists of two frames; one being a vertical list
of links positioned on the left hand side of the screen and the other
being the main content pane, positioned in the remaining area of the
screen on the right of the first frame. The first frame is used to
drive the content of the second frame.

Now, I'm not sure if this is possible in JavaScript, or indeed in
another scripting language, but what I want to do is to be able to
alter the current focus or caret? on a web page when a link is
clicked. That is, when the user selects a link from the left hand
frame, then the new content is loaded into the right and the current
focus jumps straight to this new information, as opposed to having to
tab through all the same links again in order to put the focus there.

I know this is only a fiddly little thing but it is something that
would really improve the usability of the site, especially with screen
readers in mind.

Make The Focus Jump To The Next Element (anchor) In A Page?

Jun 4, 2009

vBulletin uses a template system so I can't create a separate element for everything -- we have had several people ask for a "skip to the next post" feature and I'd like to implement that for them My first thought was to use anchor tags such as:

<a name="$post[postid]">

for each post and then to create a link for "Jump to Next Post" which would advance the user to the next instance of <a name="$post[postid]"> in which the postid obviously would've changed. With that I didn't know if there was a way that I could have javascript look for the next instance of this, or to pull the postid number and add 1 to it to find the next post on the page. I'm also not sure if it would need to be as complicated as reading where it was at and then adding one and directing person to that anchor point, which is why I thought maybe it could just look for the next instance of <a name="$post[postid]"> and refocus the screen on that.

It doesn't have to be an anchor, it can be a hidden input, whatever makes the JS be able to seek it as a point to move the page to. We do have some members that select a different number of posts per page than the default, so I'm guessing that the plus one might not be a great idea if they used a smaller number per page and then clicked the last one, whereas people with more per post wouldn't need to stop at the same point before it no longer let them. If there's a solution for that, that'd be great as well (such as once it hits the last element on the page, it no longer receives instruction, goes to the top of the page, or something).

Automatically Close The Window When The Focus Is Lost From The Page

Ok so I have a site that I want to automatically close the window when the focus is lost from the page. For example, if the user clicks off the page to something else on there desktop I want the page to close. So far I have managed to do this but the grids on my page and the scroll bars all trigger the close function when clicked on. Is there anyway to make the scroll bars and drop down boxes not trigger the function?

Prevent Page Scrolling Down On Form Focus Event?

Aug 14, 2009

I'm using a code snippet to have a cursor placed in a form field once a page loads, see the below posted code.The form field in question is located below the fold.The problem is that when the page loads it will scroll the page downwards to show the form field, I don't want that happen. I only want the cursor to appear...not the whole page to scroll downwards when the page loads.what I can do to prevent the page from scrolling downward when using this code?It's happening with similar codes as well that places a cursor inside the form field.I only want the page to scroll downward when the user decides to scroll downward, not because of the cursor placement.

Focus On Field - IPad Browser Blocking The Focus

I'm currently making a web application which needs to be fully compatible with iPad. The functions I've implemented so far work perfectly on Firefox, Internet Explorer and other browsers. However, the iPad itself responds a bit different. After a certain action, I want to put focus on a textfield with the help of Javascript. Again, this works perfectly with the normal browser, the iPad browser however seems to be blocking the focus. The reason I'm not posting any code is because it's basically irrelevant. All I do is:

Manual Focus Vs. Focus()

May 20, 2007

if(window.attachEvent) anchor_node.attachEvent('onfocus', gotFocus);
if(window.addEventListener) anchor_node.addEventListener('focus',
gotFocus, false);

function gotFocus() {
alert('i got focus');

Is there any way to tell the difference between when this anchor is
focused by a user (perhaps by tabbing to it) as opposed to when I
programatically do it via anchor_node.focus()?

JQuery :: Remove Focus For IE?

Jul 11, 2011

I am using javascript form validation, and jquery to display the error messaging and to highlight the fields. The current behavior is when you click submit, the validation runs returning an error message, and when a user clicks back into the field the error message disappears but the form highlighting (a red border around the field) remains - until the user submits the form again. Additional behavior that's needed (working in firefox but not in IE) is when an error state pops up, the field returning the error is supposed to lose focus, and the user has to click back into the field (which then removes the error message). In IE, the focus is never removed and i need it to:
