JQuery :: Fancy Sliding Form With Live Validation?
Aug 22, 2011
I`m trying to incorporate live [URL].. and i`m having a small problem that bothers me at night: all works great but the validation is made per total not field by field like is made in the link above .So i made a validation for email and username on the first field and name on the second if i enter the corect username and email it shows like is incorect only after i enter the name on the second field all other fields validate.So if i have a form with 6 field i have to get to the last one to show the user that all is completed ok.

Using : jQuery Validate (jQuery Validation Plugin 1.8.0)
Browser : IE 8
Code :
Problem: The live('submit).. code fires before the validation does. So, validation never actually stops the form submitting. In other browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari), this is not a problem, validation always fires first.

If slideToggle()'s parameters were expanded to include a separate callback for sliding up and sliding down. Or for backwards compatibility, perhaps include an optional boolean parameter in the callback to more easily discern between a slideUp and slideDown operation.

I have a form with multiple fieldsets which are visible conditionally. There are three submit buttons "Abandon", "Save" and "Save & Continue". Each button should validate specific controls of the form and submit it. I tried setting "onsubmit: false" and checking for "$('#myForm').valid ()" on click of these buttons., but that validates all controls of the form.

I'm using the Validation plugin for JQuery and was wondering if there was a function to submit the form without causing it to validate the form. I have a table with a list of radio-buttons and above that is a drop down list of states. The drop down list of states is used to filter the table rows and when the selected item changes it posts-back to the server (via $("#frm").submit()). I don't want this to cause any validation to occur. Is there another function I can call besides submit(), or some other method?

I'm new to jquery, I'm super impressed and can't wait to start working with it. I'm looking for a pop up window tutorial. When a user clicks on a link a new window fades in or stretches out from the center, something fancy like that. A good example would be the "Image Lightbox Viewer" [URL].../dynamicinde index.htm except I want to open a html page with fixed width and height rather than an image.

Using 1.4.1. A comments app. Clicking certain links fetches a comment form which displays below. The button then becomes a "cancel" link. Clicking that removes the form and sets the button back to its original state. Or so it should. I'm seeing some strange behavior. Some strange, but understandable, some not so much.
Basic code:
After removing the form, my code fetches it again and re-displays it. The problem appears to be that click event isstill "happening" and so live() fires immediately. I tried using stopPropagation(), which keeps the form from re-loading but for some reason also keeps displayFormHandler from being run on subsequent clicks.
I saw a hint in the comments for stopPropagation() and added, in cancelFormHandler:
And:
Again, this keeps the form from re-displaying but, bizarrely, causes displayFormHandler to always return false (the console.log() line runs every time). I can understand why the original problem happens but this doesn't make any sense at all. If the class has been removed, subsequent clicks should proceed normally because hasClass() is being evaluated at the time of the click, not when live() is called.

I have two javascript files that execute some code. One is a default file loaded on all pages that executes some jquery for some bells and whistles for basic interactivity :
default_jquery.js
Code:
$(document).ready(function() {
function make_fancy(){
//make tables look nice
//make hover look nice
//etc
//etc
}
make_fancy();
});
It works great. However, one of my pages updates a database via ajax and then rewrites and redisplays the updated table on a successful ajax return. For example, if someone adds something to their shopping cart, ajax queries the database, updates an entry, and then rebuilds the shopping cart to reflect the new item or quantity. The problem I was having was that after the rewrite of the table, I was losing the formatting that the above jquery file was implementing. So I just added the same jquery statements above to the success indicator of the ajax.
My ajax looks something like this:
buy_item.js
Code:
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "../buy_item.php",
data: "item="+item+"&quantity="+quantity,
success: function(resp){
//redraw table .....
This works fine, and reapplies the styles after the table has been redrawn. However, I don't like to have the same jquery statements in this file as I do in the standard jquery file above. So I just want to use a function. So on this buy_item.js page, I'm trying to call the make_fancy() function in the default_jquery.js file, but it doesn't work. I'm told that the make_fancy() function is not defined. I've tried including the default_jquery.js file which contains the make_fancy function before the buy_item.js file that calls it, but that doesn't work for some reason.
What I want is this for the buy_item.js page:
Code:
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "../buy_item.php",
data: "item="+item+"&quantity="+quantity,
success: function(resp){
//redraw table
make_fancy();
},
error: function(e){
alert('You suck at this');
}});
}//function

I've made a basic website template, which I'm still working on, but I'd like to make it compatible with IE before I go any further.
I'm having trouble with the drop down menu that is located in the top right section on the site...in the banner.
It seems to work fine in FireFox (which is what I've built it for), Safari, and Chrome, but it will not work in Internet Explorer. Problem is....it doesn't hide the links, or "il" section. I was able to get it to do so, but then it would not let you select any of them...they would disappear as soon as you moved your mouse off of the top section, or "ul" i believe it's called.
Here is the website link [url]
And here is the CSS sheet for the menu [url]
I'm sure I'm probably missing some things as well as having things I don't need. I'm lost.
Here is the code for the menu:
And here is the CSS:

I have my website www.gebcn.com. If you view source you will see all that I have done, but more importantly my problem. I have the JS code at the top there and I am unable to W3C validate my HTML because of the JS. I am using XHTML strict and would like to stay using it.
The JS I have at the top is my form validation code. I am able to do any validating that I need with this "snippet" of code, I have shrank it from my library version just to use for this newsletter. Until now W3C validating was not important now for some reason it is and I am faced with this problem.
I am not a Javascript guy more of a HTML/CSS guy and I can manipulate JS to suit my needs.
<problem> I have tried to make this "snippet" of JS code an external file but receive multiple errors with the JS calling for the FORM NAME as it is not on the same page. The form NAME=NEWSLETTER is another problem, as W3C says I am unable to use attribute "NAME" in this location. <problem> I would like to keep the JS close to how it is now as I have a library to use this JS over and over again.

Catching <a> link click - Fancy Box I have an example here of the simple image gallery I'm working with. The thumbnails are loaded from an XML and are linked to larger images. untitled I want to use Fancy box Fancybox - Fancy lightbox alternative to show the larger images. I have fancy box working on other sites but can't get it to work here. In an attempt to work out why it's not working I tried to capture the click on the <a> link, but that won't work.

I'm using the JQuery Form Validation plugin which, BTW is working great.
I have a web site URL input field that my client wants to have the "http://" already included.
He's complaining that most users input their site url beginning with "www." instead of the full URL.
How would I go about doing that?

My idea is to have a fully AJAX based form that will validate the input, then via AJAX post it, and accordingly to the AJAX response display some messages (no full postback). I have no problem with the AJAX itself, the only issue I face is that my 'form' is not actually a <form> - it is a simple <div> with some textboxes (I am using Asp, and using forms is not so easy here, sine you can not have nested forms).Unfortunately the jQuery validation (http:[url].....) does not work for <div>. Is there any way to use jQuery validation without having to use <form> tag?

I am trying to use jquery's ajax framework to check if the data that is entered is valid or not. The form works properly except i cannot get the page to go to action="something.php" file in the form part.
[Code]...
I enter a company into the form and hit submit The form will send the data to my validate company.php file. Validate company will return either "good" or "bad" If "bad" the form works as expected. it will stop the function by returning false and alert you that it is already in the database If "good" the page just sits there, basically returned false. however if you click submit again on the html form the function will go through and do what return: true should do.

I have created a new site that has a contact page and am trying to use the Forms plugin and Validation plugin. I can get the validation plugin to work fine and submit the form when it is valid but I am trying to use AJAX to update a div when the form has been successfully sent. All that is happening is it sends the form then validates meaning I get empty emails..
This is my code:
The output div should have already been updated with the responseText.');} </script> and the webpage is [url].

I cannot get the rules I define to process when validating a form in IE6. I found some folks couldn't use the minified version of the .js file, but I tried both and am still getting nowhere. This works in FF. The submitHandler runs (I'm showing an alert) but the validations aren't running. Below is the code.
<html>
<head>
<script src="jquery.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="jquery.validate.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
var prospectTxErrors = {
prospectName : {
required : "An entry is required in field Prospect.",
rangelength : "Prospect Name must be between 2 and 45 characters."
