JQuery :: Can't Use Variable To Access Json Node
Jan 21, 2010
why I cannot access json data by using a variable as a node name. I'm trying to grab a random quote from a .json file and display it in a div. When I access a node in the object by node name I can access the node data. However, when I try to use a variable in place of the node name (because I want to grab a random node) I get an object undefined error.
JSON object:
{
"quote1" : {"quote" : "hello, world."},
"quote2" : {"quote" : "goodbye, world."},
"quote3" : {"quote" : "out of this world."}

I have an AJAX application using which im attempting to acces a #Text node in the NAME tag of a XML document. i then want to sort the names and place them into tables <td> tag. i can put the names in the <td> but i want them sorted alphabetically. from my understanding im suppose to be able to sort an array simply like this Array[].sort();..............this is the reason i need the text to be an array. Unless you know a simpler way to do this.
Code:
function postNames(){
var signersdoc = xmlHttp.responseXML;
var container = document.getElementsByTagName("td");

anyone knows if you can add a property to a node through a variable. This is working with freemarker template's
for example:
Javascript
model.test = 'some text';
---- Freemarker template will have ----
${test}
--- this will print out "some text" on the screen ---
but what if i wanted to do something like (in theory)
var i = 'test'
model.getMethod[i] = 'some text'
i think im supposed to use getMethod but im not sure ?

I am simply trying to use a global variable in javascript, but can only access the variable on the second call. I can't find anything that relates to this through my searches. My application is supposed to query the server for XML that tells me which years and months are available to put into combo boxes. I want to store this xml in a global variable to access it later.

I'm trying to fetch JSON contents via ajax() from a file using this code:
// grab pages via AJAX request
sm.pages = (function() {
var json = null;
$.ajax({
async: false,
global: false,
url: 'pages.json',
dataType: 'json',
success: function(data){
json = data;
console.log(data);
}});
return json;
})();
One problem though. The success function doesn't seem to be firing at all even though I can see the request was successfully in Firebug.

I'm using jsTree-0.9.9a. As a test this is the code i'm using to display the ID
oncreate: function(NODE, REF_NODE, TYPE, TREE_OBJ, RB)
{
if (TYPE === "inside") {
parent_id = $(REF_NODE).attr('id');
alert(parent_id)
}}
This works fine when the parent has no child nodes, however, when a child node exists nothing is returned.

I am slowly working through learning/writing a JS project.here is the core issue.:
var pt =<? echo json_encode($prt);?>
alert(pt) // for diagnostic purposes
json is flattening the PHP array to be used in the script.However, the alert shows me that I only get {[ ,which is just before the first set of double quotes.JS quits at the double quotes, leaving me with an undefined array.How do I fix this?

I'm trying to populate a web page with javascript. I have 2 functions. One that runs on-load so I can populate a dropdown list. The second one to process the selection when the user selects an item from the list.
I have a global variable in the top of my javascript that I use in the functions and as long as I set it in it's global scope, everything works fine. But what I really want to do is to pass this into the javascript running on this page via the code...
My question is. Where do I put this code so that I can use it to set the global variable "weekNumber"?
I've tried putting this code in the populateList function - NOPE! I've tried referencing it via window.weekNumber and this.weekNumber - NOPE. I'm stumped.
I've spent far too many hours trying to understand this without success. Can anyone help me figure out where to put this code so I can set the global variable weekNumber?
Is there a better way to do this?

I need to acsess an object property via variables, but don't get ahead.
Example:
var property = height;
"height" is a property of the object "flower". Now, I need a possibility to access "flower.height" with my variable property, means -->"flower.property" I tried everything like "flower.[property]" "flower.['property']" etc. but nothing did help.

I've got this:
Code:
var noteCount = "";
jsonRequest('media.getFiles', params,
function(result) { noteCount = result['totalCount']},
function(exception) { noteCount = "0"},
true
);
The console returns results['totalCount'] with a value of 2 (that's correct).
When I call noteCount for display, it shows nothing. Neither the var set by result or exception.
