JQuery :: Way To Simulate ESC Key

Feb 13, 2011

How do I simulate a ESC key without user intervention? For example I want the ESC key be executed in the background when a page loads or a user clicks on a link? Is it possible in jQuery?

I know there are ways to validate what key was pressed on the keyboard using .keypress but I am looking for something like 'SENDKEYS'

JQuery :: Simulate A Human-triggered Event?

Jun 16, 2009

I'm trying to change the value of an input field (target) which depends on another input (source). It works well when I manually change the source value. But if I changed the source value with another button, the target value remains the same.

Here's the code...

$(document).ready(function() {
$('input#change').click(function() {
$('input#source').attr('value', 'This is the value changed by a
button');

[Code].....

So how could the target input detect if there's a change within the source input without manually changing it's value?

JQuery :: Autocomplete - Simulate A Select Box Where Displayed Value Is One Thing And Submitted Value Is Another?

Oct 5, 2009

how to use the autocomplete jQuery plugin best to my needs. I'm looking to replace a select box with the Autocomplete plugin, but not quite sure how to accomplish this. In my select box, I have the option that is displayed is not the same as the data that is submitted.
ex: <option value="123">This is Displayed </option> However, with the autocomplete, since it is using a textbox, the values that are displayed, are submitted. Do I have to hack around using hidden fields to accomplish this type of behaviour?

JQuery :: Simulate A Mouse Rollover For Specific Amount Of Time?

I am curious if it is possible to use jQuery to simulate a rollover event after a page has loaded entirely.

Essentially, if you had a navigation menu with dropdown lists, could you make the lists drop down in order, one after another, each for 5 seconds, after the page has finished loading entirely?

Simulate Different Resolutions

this is a bookmarklet for IE that I use to see how a page works with different widths (i.e. you can simulate 1280x1024 or 640x480) without need to change resolutions or adjust window size. Not 100% accurate, but it's enough:

javascript:db=document.body;bst=db.style.zoom=1;resdesti=prompt("Destination:",800); db.style.zoom=db.offsetWidth/resdesti;void('')

Can I Simulate A Paypal Button

Apr 8, 2006

I'v created a site for client, with several pages of products for
sale, we're not using any Online payment method yet -so in the
meantime, I'v just provided an Order Form, to be completed, printed
then mailed off with payment....

what I would really like to do, to improve this greatly - would be to
simulate what a paypal "add to cart" button would do - which is click
to add an item, and it places that item in a window in a separate page~
just as paypal does, and so on as they click on any other product to
buy, this would then give them an order form - but just containing the
items they want to buy - instead of the present order form which has
all products from that catagory, but obviously has the ones wanted
marked.

Simulate An Actual Click?

Sep 14, 2011

I've search all over to find a way to simulate an actual click on an element using javascript or jquery.

For example, suppose there is an element with id="someElement". I've tried

$('#someElement').click();
and
$('#someElement').trigger('click');

But this doesn't work. You might think "Why don't you just call the function that is triggered by the click event, or redirect to the url that a click would lead to anyway", but I can't do this.

Need To Simulate OnClick From Select Menu

May 19, 2006

I have a dropdown list:

<select name="select" class="mapMenu" onChange="JumpToIt(this)">
<option selected value="none">Select a Tool --</option>
<option value="javascript:onCreatePrintable()">Print Map</option>
<option value="javascript:onFindLatLong()">Find Lat/Long</option>
</select>

That calls a script:

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!--
function JumpToIt(list) {
var newPage = list.options[list.selectedIndex].value
if (newPage != "None") {
location.href=newPage
}
}
//-->
</SCRIPT>

Which in turn selects an option from the original dropdown.

Works fine except.....

The options in the select call scripts that open new browser windows,
and when this occurs popup blockers swing into action and block the new
window. When I originally had the javascript calls as plain links such
as [HREF="javascript:onCreatePrintable()"] the popup was not blocked
since it was obvious that user was clicking the link. Now that I'm
trying to save much needed space by putting these links into a
dropdown, the popup blockers are not recognizing the user selection....
I guess. I was thinking the javascript could somehow simulate an
onClick to alleviate the problem. Any suggestions?

Simulate A Manual Click - Not An Auto One

Sep 14, 2010

After all, there is some difference in the way we 'click' using our mouse at some place in the document, and what can be achieved by the dispatchEvent "click" in Firefox. We have a page, which has two iFrames on whole. Left frame having a table of clickable email subjects, and right frame showing the entire body of the selected email. The problem is, the clickable area on the subject is too small, making it a pain to click each email to see its body. So I implemented a way of navigating through them using keyboard in the parent page(using key handlers in Javascript). The problem is, when we load the page for first, the navigation works fine, since the focus is on the parent page. But as soon as someone clicks on any area on the two iFrames, the key handlers don't work because they are in the parent page, not in that frame.

I noticed that when I click on any area outside the two frames, it works again. Idea : "Why not do a setTimeOut or setInterval sort of thing, which just sits and keeps on clicking on a place outside the frames"? Good idea, but doesn't work. Why? Is installing the same kind of key handlers in both the frames the only other way? Even setting focus on an element on the parent page doesn't work.

Open New Window And Simulate Key Press Events?

May 8, 2010

I have been trying to merge two command scripts, and have gotten nothing. I am trying to use javascript commands to open a new window on Firefox, and on that opened window simulate a Tab key press.

This is the full script that I have come up with so far to open two windows, with the websites being yahoo.com and google.com. ***To fully help me please copy this script, paste to Notepad, save as a .html file and run it on Firefox. You will notice a "Open Windows" button will appear. When you click on it the windows will open:

<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
function open_win() {
window.open("http://yahoo.com", "newwindow1")
window.open("http://google.com", "newwindow2")

[Code]...

What I want to do is merge these two scripts, so that when I press that "Open Windows" button, the new window opens and the Tab key press is immediately simulated to move to the next field on the webpage.

I understand that JavaScript is event driven, meaning some event has to occur before you can make things happen. The user must push a key or click somewhere on the page before you can relaly do anything with an event. I want to have the clicking of the "Open Windows" button, that first triggering event which opens a window and simulates the tab key press on that window.

Using InnerHTML To Simulate Frames - Can't Include JS Code In A Function

Jan 29, 2009

I'm designing a website for a mock promotions firm, and currently I have a header, menu-bar (horizontal, sits under the header), a big 'content' main area, and a footer, all arranged in CSS. The problem I'm having, is that I've got an embedded music player in the footer - and now obviously whenever I click on a link in the menu bar to take me to another page, the music re-starts, and looks very unproffessional The header, menu, footer and music parts are the same for every page, so I thought I could just use

document.getElementById("content").innerHTML = "[page code here";

as a JS function mapped to "onclick" of the links in the menu bar. It works for little quick practices, where I put text in the [page code here] for each different page - but here's the crux of the problem: One of the pages has an embedded flash file, a photo-gallery viewer. Here is the code for the 'content' part of this gallery page:

<div id="flashcontent">
You don't seem to have flash installed. <a href="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer/">Get It.</a></div>
<script type="text/javascript">

[code].....

I uploaded this onto the webserver and gave it a go - the best I got was a dark box showing up (same colour as the photo gallery background) - Is it because I can't just lump all of that code into a getElementById call ?

JQuery :: Simulate A Validation Group With Validation Plugin?

Dec 5, 2010

I have a formdivided into 2 fieldsets (see the image) : MASTER and DETAIL. When I press Add in the DETAIL fieldset a new item is added to an array where I store temporarly the data entered trough the DETAIL inputs and finally when I press save I send both the MASTER and DETAIL (the temporary array shown in the html table) data to the server. As you may have already noticed, I need to validate both MASTER an DETAIL, but I don't want the Save button to fire the DETAIL validation or the Add link to fire the MASTER validation. I've been googling for a while and though I couldn't find exactly what I've been looking for, I found that it's possible to add/remove a class (e.g, required, number); that gave me some ideas on how to simulate validation groups and here's the code:

<script>
$
(
document

[Code]...

Although this code allow me to stop the MASTER validation from firing when I press Add( and DETAIL validation when I click Save), I still can't manage to insert a new DETAIL if only if all of the inputs in the DETAIL fieldset are valid and, what's more I don't want the Add link to cause a form submission.
