JQuery :: Validate Email List - Add JS Validation To Forms?
Apr 4, 2011
I've used the excellent validate plugin (http://bassistance.de/jquery-plugins/jquery-plugin-validation/) to add JS validation to forms. I'm aware there's a built-in setting to validate an email address. However, I'd like to validate a list of email addresses, and I don't think the plugin contains a built-in solution. What's the best way to implement this?

I know that this must be quite trivial to most of you, but my skills
in JavaScript are weak.
I am looking for a way to validate all forms throughout a website
through one validation script.
How do I determine the form's name (or id) value to implement
conditional validation?
i.e. if (form1) { validate like this }; if (form2) { validate like
this };

I am using the jquery validation plugin to validate a form's email address field. The validation works but with the minor exception that when trailing whitespace is entered after the email the validation fails. I'm not sure if this is because of the regexp or a missing trim.

I have a form (form1) to register with the fields: user, email, password being validated normally.
Have a second form (Form2) to the user update the data registered in form1, and the fields user, email, password is already populated with data from the database, the email field I use the remote validation, and as the field already has been completed and read always says that this email already exists, how do I create a rule or method so that when the field is already filled it not do so validating and validate if it is filled with a new email. Email2 have a hidden field in order to do a test type.

I am rather new to JQuery and would like to use it with php. I ran into problems when my html is not static, I generate php forms on the fly using my php script and JQuery just doesn't seem to validate those forms. When put the same form in static html file JQuery works like a charm. What could be wrong? Does JQuery need a page to be static? Right after I load my php page firebug reports that $(document).ready(function() { is not a function and JQuery is not defined. I have loaded the necessary JQuery libraries.

When I add a tab, whose content is a form. The form is loaded by ajax $.ajax('url'); On ajax complete, I add a custom method for validation, which is supposed to get called when the "Upload" button in the form is clicked, but it never get called. I have searched and tried multiple things for two days now, and nothing works.

I've a page that has 2 forms. If the user clicks the bottom form the validations appear and everything goes red but the Top form is a required field but it doesn't as it's a separate form. How can I validation form0 and form1 together to show to the user the required fields. When the user clicks form0 it goes over to a pagedLIst, the user returns and textfield gets populated with the product that as selected. So when they hit form1, that value gets passed through as a hiddenfield..
<form id="form0">
...text box input to search for your product, returns to this page populated the found product
<input class="button" id="FindProduct" type="submit" value="Find Product" name="action"/>

I am using a variation of the multipage form in the demo and run into a small problem with the pageRquired function. Seems it does not validate correctly if you add any custom selectors after the pageRequired. I am trying to make one field required depending on whether another field is blank. E.g.:
class="{pageRequired: '#field1:blank'}"
In this case, the validation is completely ignored, even if I have {pageRequired:true}. It will only validate if I have class="pageRequired" without the curly brackets. However, if I set it up in rules, it will make the field2 required regardless of the value of field1, e.g.: $(document).ready(function(){
$("#myform").validate({
rules: {
field2: {
pageRequired: "#field1:blank"
}}, debug:true
});
On a whole the multipage validation works very well but not with any custom selectors such as :blank, :filled etc or by using curly brackets in the class. Is there a way around this? I would really prefer to use inline validation using class statements and still be able to use custom selectors. View this message in context: [URL].

I m aware of various ways to validate forms using JQuery, but here I have a complex thing, and i need the most optimized code for it... Basically I have a form made up of rows each containing a number of input text fields which are repeated on a the following rows however of course with different IDs and names... There is no need to fill all the rows, but it is necessary to fill all the fields of a specific row. Now I was wondering, how can i make sure that each row is properly filled? knowing that some rows will be totally blank [which is okay]

I should imagine others here have experienced it. The user completes your form, and they unintentionally input their email address incorrectly. Then when you reply to their form, you then get the mailer daemon returning your email! Now, there's a couple of ways that some websites try to solve this problem - some ask the user to input their email address twice, some show the forms results on the next page, so that the user has a last chance to check, before completing the submission. Are there any other ways of trying to ensure that, as much as possible, that the user inputs the correct email address?

I see it working in the demos I found this documentation
You can avoid having to duplicate the plugin settings by modifying the defaults. Use $.validator.setDefaults({…}) to override multiple settings at once.
But I do not understand what I have to do to make this work

Basically I'm using the plugin to validate a form. I've got the basics set up and working. Now I'm trying to use remote so that I can check for a duplicate email address. The problem is as soon as I add my checking script the validation stops working on the email field completely. It constantly says "please enter a valid email address" no matter what I put in the field. If I don't have the remote bit in my code the email field validation works correctly. Here is my site: [URL].
This is my code:
login.js
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#content form').validate({
rules: {
title:{
required: true
},
name: { .....

I'm brand new to jQuery, and I am really interested in learning about it because of the potential it offers to enhance my webpages. To give you some background, I am self-taught in PHP and MySQL...not on a master's level, but I have designed and built database-driven sites with success and am confident that I can learn jQuery if only I could get pointed in the right direction. I have perused tutorials, links, forums and recently bought the jQuery Cookbook (I needed SOMETHING to go on and it was one of the few jQuery books at the local bookstore that felt as though it would be of help). My problem is, I am finding gaps in information that, to me, are critical to learning. I am looking for a nut-and-bolt approach, 'Do this, then do that' not the typical generalizations I keep encountering.
All I want to do to start with is to remotely validate a two-item form, you guessed it, username and email, against the contents of my database (the info for the validation plugins is just as vague and general). That's it. But the tutorials and examples are vague to me, and in one instance, a link was posted offering to display the server-side validation code used and the link was dead. I can't be the only person here who is stonewalled by these thoughtful, yet overly-general tutorials and books. if any of you have suggestions where I can find a concise, true step-by-step tutorial or book, I would love to know. Right now, it's just one frustrating day of research after another.

I have built out a fairly rhobust app using jquery and jquery-ui all was going well until we started to bring different screens together inside a tabbed interface. Seems that now when we execute our validation code on one form its checking the fields of all other forms on the page.All of my forms do have unique ID's and all elements within all forms have unique ID's.My understanding of using this.find inside of the submit event was that it should only find the forms elements am I wrong? Method that performs the actual validation:
function validateForm(event){
var allOk = true;
$(this).find("*[validation]").each(function(){[code]....

JQuery newbie question re using validation plugin with Django newform.I have a simple email feedback contact django form that I wanted toenhance with some JQuery validation. I created a standalone (NonDjango) version of the form and it works correctly.However when I create a Django version of the form the validationrules seems to be ignored and the form is always posted - I wouldexpect the form to fail, and never post. One difference (not sure ifit's siignificant) is that the Django forms are created from classes/templates and render as tables. However the exact same HTML code worksfor the basic form.I'm now thinking that there must be something different re how thesubmit is being processed for the Django form - but I'm stumped.

I'm using the jquery accordion in order to list all email received/sent. The header (h3+a) shows the object, the content (div) is the mail text.
HTML accordion :
<div id="accordion"><div>
<h3><a href="#">object 1</a></h3>
<div>mail 1 text</div>
</div><div>
<h3><a href="#">object 2</a></h3>
<div>mail 2 text</div>
</div>
<div>
<h3><a href="#">object 3</a></h3>
<div>mail 3 text</div>
</div>
</div>
Accordion script function:
$(function() {
$( "#accordion" ).accordion({
autoHeight: false,
header: "h3",
navigation: true
});
});
I would like to request my SQL database only when i clic on the header of a mail, and avoid to preload all the mails. The other problem, much important in my case, is to mark the mail "read" or "unread". There is a column in the SQL database for this. So, the mail needs to change to "read" state when I click on his accordion's header. Before using accordion, I was using simple link which reloads all the page. I've no problem with PHP/SQL, but I'm not so good in javascript/jquery, or ajax...
SQL request (simplified) :
$sql = "SELECT mail_object, mail_text FROM table_mail ";
$req = mysql_query($sql);
SQL update read-state (simplified) :
$sql_2 = "UPDATE table_mail SET mail_read=1 ";
$req_2 = mysql_query($sql_2);
So, is there any way to execute this code when I click on a header? After that, I'll asking you how to change header style to differentiate read/unread mail (in bold for example, or change background image/color).

I am using the Validation plugin to validate a form that emails the current pages URL to the recipients entered in to the "email to" field. I want to validate that field for multiple emails addressed separated by commas...and ideas on how to do this? I'm a bit new to jQuery so I am a little confused how to approach this. I was thinking somehow altering the email function so that is parses the input and does a for each on every email address. Is this correct thinking? Is there an easier way to do this?

The following code asks the user to sumbit a name, email address, and some
text for a quotation via a FORM. I have written a javascript function to
evaluate the fields in the form and pop-up a message to tell the user if all
the fields have been fill-out. If the user has missed some information the
form re-displays with red "alerts" indicating where the user have missed the
information while re-populating the information the user has submitted.
May question is, after the user has successfully filled out the form, how
can the submit request be forwarded to another jsp so the information can be
emailed to me. I have written a jsp to accept the request and email it. This
works if I remove the validation code. I am not familiar enough with
javascript to be able to figure this one out. I may be on the wrong track.....

My understanding of regular expressions is rudimentary, at best.
I have this RegExp to to a very simple validation of an email-address, but it turns out that it refuses to accept mail-addresses with hypens in them.
Can anybody please help me adjust it so it will accept addresses like dag-sunde@test-domain.net too?
Here's what got:
function validateEmail(eMail) {
return /^(w+.)*(w+)@(w+.)+([a-zA-Z]{2,4})$/.test(eMail);
}
