I have a specific hyperlink defined like this:

What I want to do is set up an event so that when a user clicks the hyperlink I can do some jQuery work on the page. How can this be done in jQuery?
I have an imagemap with a list of links to one side. The links highlight areas on the map by overlaying a PNG file, and the links need a "selected" state. The areas on the map need to be clickable too, and when these are clicked, the corresponding link item should get the "selected" state. I've got theselected state workingworking when the user clicks on the links, but can't get it working when they click on the map area.

I checked that "linkname" contains the right text by displaying the label, and it does. All I need to know is how to select the relevant link and add the "selected" class when the imagemap area is clicked.

I have a parent/child scenario where the child is a pop-up "control panel" with hyperlinks that control the parent page. The idea is to click a link and it changes the parent to whatever URL ...BUT... the kicker here is that the parent page is in PHP and is receiving a value from the javascript function.I have everything working EXCEPT that I can't get the value from the hyperlink that i need to pass to the PHP.Everything I fund about getting values in JS involves a "getElementby ID" type of command, but that isn't going to work here because there are several hyperlinks. how to make the image a hyperlink to specific urls rather than the image in its own page in the contenflow.js? I've found that if you comment out this line: window.location.href=A You will successfully delete the hyperlinks that link to the full size image. I have a page with several different forms. One of these currently has an onsubmit event to run a custom validation program before the action is triggered. This event is currently shown asonsubmit="return validateForm(this)"and works as expected.
I want to be able to use this form in some instances without this validation so I want to take this event out and add it if a certain field has been set before the page was loaded. I'm new to jQuery and thought I'd understood how I could do this but I'm not getting this to work.

I am working in a third party application which has a hookinto their window.onload() function.(it calls my fnCustomOnload. In my fnCustomOnload() function I have tried to bind a focusout event on a particular input and have it call a function callled fnGetRestriction(). The function fnGetRestriction()actually works without errors, I have forced it with the grabfocus.focus (lines 2 and 3)but it is called not being called anytime other than once at the beginning when it is force by lines 2 and 3.. The line that performs the alert() (line 4)works properly all the time. What is wrong with line 5?

Is it possible to trigger an event ONLY IF a specific string is typed but not in a form field?

The reason I ask, is I have a barcode scanner and I want to be able to trigger a submit button next to the matching product on scanning the barcode. So basically, the user can open the page (and may have clicked on some elements already) then scan a product which will input a 13 digit number and the submit button with that matching id will be clicked/submitted. This is easy enough to do if I use a text input, but I a) don't want the user to have to click in the text box first. b) don't want the user to have to delete the text box to scan the next product.
Perhaps it can be done somehow with a hidden field that automatically resets on each scan?!?
The scanner works just like a keyboard as I have used it to filter products with keyup() in a text field...so it does actually activate keyup(). So it should have exactly the same affect if you type the numbers manually.
I want to make it so that when I click on something, it changes what document.onclick does.

However, as you'll notice, the alert box shows up on the first click as well. The only way I have been able to get around this behaviour is to have the first onclick execute a timer that will then set the document.onclick after 1ms, however this seems very messy to me.

Normally, I think you bind an event when you create the tree like $ ('.sidecontent').bind(........).jstree(data.tree); but that's for the whole tree, which I don't want. I have a selector for the nodes I want like $('a[id*="room_1"]') but I don't know how to bind an event to those nodes only. Is this possible? If it is, then what event should I use?

The UX people now would like the expanding <div> to open with the onclick event and then as soon as the mouse leaves the expanded div, it would close. I have tried using the onmouseout event in conjunction the onclick event but it does not work (the div persists).
I need to pass the selected option of a <select> tag into a query

I have had this function work perfectly in IE and am trying to get it
to work in Firefox. I have seen plenty of questions and answers on the

or changing it. I only want uppercase characters in this case. If the
key is a lowercase, it needs to be changed to an uppercase character.
IE lets you use keyCode to change the character code. How do I do the
