JQuery :: Exclude FadeIn-Element From Triggering Its Selfe?

May 10, 2011

i have an image that is faded in (somehow like any lightbox-effect). Now, if the user hovers this image, the "closeButton" ist shown above it.The Problem: when hovering the "closeButton" that lies over the image (upper-right corner),the fadeIn/ out of the "closeButton" triggers again... resulting in an in-out-in-out-in-out... animationof the "closeButton". that might look funky, but its not what i want :) basicly i need some tick that excludes the "closeButton" from "mouseover mouseout"...

$(".trigger").click(function(){
url = $(this).attr("href");
$("#center").append($("<img id='fullImg' src='"+url+"' />").hide().fadeIn(500));

JQuery :: Select First Element From Current One With Certain Class?

Apr 6, 2011

here's the one of example codes from documentation:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.5.js"></script>

[Code].....

As soon as I add this line of code, .selected is nothi-lightedany more. Now, I understand that this is the way this function is supposed to work (guess so,otherwiseit's a bug), but I couldn't find any function in documentation that would go from my current element to the first element that has that classapplied and skip everything in between.

JQuery :: Using The Location Object To Conditionally Exclude An Element In A Selector List?

Jun 14, 2011

I have a single web page that is broken into content sections that are all assigned element id's (home, about, services, and contact) and have a fixed navigation bar that points to anchors associated with each element id / page section. Since the navigation bar is fixed, it comes along with us as we scroll through the page. I've got a jQuery smooth scrolling effect that makes a nice transition between sections of the page when you click on one of the navigation links. Between the sections I have an image that looks cool as the page scrolls past between sections.

Problem:Since the page is kind of long, I would like to use the jQuery .hide method to remove page sections that lie between the current section of the page that is being viewed and the section targeted by the navigation link. At the same time, the .show method will be used to ensure the target section of the page is visible. Therefore, I need to include an exception to the list of elements that I am hiding - the element that I am currently viewing (and is consequently being displayed as the current url in the browser due to the anchor tags).ExampleFor instance, say you're viewing the "about" section of the page and you click the navigation link to the "contact" section. The "contact" link in the navigation bar is assigned the id="nav_contact." When you click the "contact" button, I've made the following jQuery happen:

$("#nav_contact").click(function ( event ) {
event.preventDefault();
$('#contact').show()

[code]....

JQuery :: Get ID's Of Children Div's Of A Class With A Specific Parent Div ID?

Mar 8, 2011

I'm building a volunteer translation site. In order to constantly update only paragraphs that multiple translators are working on, I need to pass an array to PHP of A: which paragraphs are open, and B: which translations have been submitted and are visible on the user's screen. PHP will then compare this with what is in the database and tell jQuery to add new submitted translation paragraphs or remove deleted ones.I've managed to make a string of all the open Div's and have it updated every second, like this:

function cycle(){
var data = '';
$('.paragraphtobetranslated:visible').each(function(){

JQuery :: Select A Tags With No Ul > Li >a Children?

Oct 7, 2010

I have about 13 ul li a items in a list and some have nested lists within them e.g. ul li ul li a and some don't. I want to prevent the default action on only a elements that have nested lists within them but not prevent default action for ones that don't. Here's an example of the markup.

[Code]...

However, instead, is there a way to tell jQuery to only apply this preventDefault to ul li a elements that have ul li a descendants/children (not sure of correct terminology here) so I can have the list items in any order?

JQuery :: Listen For Change In An Element's Children

Sep 13, 2010

I have a UL that loads in dynamically after the DOM has already finished loading via and external API that doesn't have a callback function for when it's finished. However, I need to manipulate the children of the UL once it's loaded in, so I need some type of listener for when the UL changes.I need an event to fire when an element or it's children change.Is there anything like this in jQuery? Otherwise I'm going to have to create a setInterval to polloccasionallyto see if the UL has loaded, and that sounds sloppy.

JQuery :: Select The Last Children Of Parent Elements?

May 3, 2010

I need to select the last children of parent elements

For example

<ul>
<li></li> <-This will have the background #1a
<li></li> <-This will have the background #1a
<li><ul>

[Code]....

So I would need the last children. If there is no nested element then that is considered the last child. I have to write a jquery script to apply a background to the last children. A nested element can have a nested element and then that element's children will be considered the last ones so they will get the background but not the parents of those children. If the item has no children then that item will have a background.

So there are 3 different backgrounds. Each letter a, b c will represent a lighter tone compared to the previous color. C is lighter than B, B is lighter than A etc. So this will have to be a "smart" system in which the ul li will be updated and depending if it is the last one inhierarchyit will not have the arrow.

Getting All Children Of An Element

Apr 7, 2007

Please look at the following HTML snippet:

<body>
some text
<p>more text</p>
even more text
</body>

The value of document.body.children.length would be 1. The one child
is the <ptag. Now what I want is to be able to get the children of
body including the text elements.

So essentially there would be 3 children of body: 'some text', <p>,
'even more text'. How can I do this?

Conditional SELECT Element - Determined By Original Select Element On Page Load?

Jul 31, 2009

When the page loads there will already be a drop-down on the page, here's an example of the drop down.

<select id="dropdown">
<option value="2121S">Option text</option>
<option value="2122S">Option text</option>
<option value="2123S">Option text</option>
<option value="2121A">Option text</option>
<option value="2122A">Option text</option>
<option value="2121K">Option text</option>
</select>

On page load it will evaluate this drop-down and repopulate it determined on their values. If there is an S in any of the values the drop-down will generate an option for 'S' like so.. <option value="s">S Option Text</option> And for the first code example in this post - the Javascript would be able to repopulate the drop-down with the following:

Set Dom Element Class (if Element Was Dynamically Created)

Jan 25, 2006

hi everybody, didn't find this using the search :( this is my problem:
i create a dom element dynamically (<span>) and want to assign a class
attribute to it such that it has some css style, this works in ie, but
not in firefox :( here's the simple code:

<div id="somediv"></div>

var div = window.document.getElementById("somediv");
var span = window.document.createElement("span");
span.innerHTML = "span";
span.attributes.getNamedItem("class").nodeValue = "span_class";
div.appendChild(span);

so this works well in ie6, but firefox gives this error:
Error: span.attributes.getNamedItem("class") has no properties

if i run this code on a statically defined span (in the html file),
where a class attribute already is set:

<div id="somediv">
<span id="spanspan" class="">
</span>
</div>

changing the class to "span_class" works both in ie and firefox.

how can i fix my above code such that it works in both browsers? it
seems that on newly created dom elements the class attribute isn't even
there (to change it), how can i create it, and then change it?
