Aug 11, 2010According to [URL] intended way for jQuery to change dynamically the selected option of a dropdown select control isassigningthe desired text instead of the value. I found this way veryinconvenient (data structures usually deal with value codes, not value descriptions) and it seems to work only sometimes.
Trying different options I came out with this approach that seems to do the job so

Jun 16, 2011I've seen a variety of implementations around that enable selecting all or no checkboxes by using a checkbox to toggle that choice. However, I'm trying to find a way like this: I have two text links on my page: Select All, and Select None. How can I get those links to call a jquery function to select all or select no checkboxes in my form? As a little food for thought:

Feb 2, 2009Ive searched this forum for a simple solution to this. I want have a drop down of countries. Only if USA is selected, it shows states, otherwise it is hidden. I have a function which is 'trying' to write the state dropdown to an empty span.

Nov 9, 2011I have a screen that is being displayed and has drop-boxes but when clicked, but when I click from a certain link I wish to freeze the dropbox and keep it from changing. Ive tried read-only but that doesnt work. Disabled Yes will not allow the value to be read in.

instructions: When a user selects a date from the investment cycle drop-down box, the subsequent investment values must display the next three fiscal quarters.
E.g:

The subsequent quarters should be presented with checkboxes which are all unchecked.

The values to populate the checkboxes (value and label) have to be hardcoded somewhere, no? what am I missing?
JQuery :: Select Dropdown With Many Options, Most Efficient Way To Populate?
Jun 16, 2010I am populating a number of Select boxes on the server-side with a large number of options. I'd like to get the response size down without taxing the client browser too much. What do you think is the most efficient way to approach this problem?
Here are some considerations: The option text/values do not change very often, but could potentially change in the future. The page that holds the select boxes should never be cached, there are other aspects of the page that need to remain fresh. Firebug with YSlow is saying that the primed cache size of the page is 300Kb with all the select dropdowns and options, if I remove the options, the primed cache size of the page is 80Kb. I am considering breaking out the text/value pairs for the select boxes into a separate file that is cache-able calling it "valueTextPairs.js" and referencing it with a query string and some sort of server-generated MD5 hash of the data, so that if any of the values change, the client's cached version will be replaced by the latest version. Like so:[URL]...
Provided I do this, I anticipate that the primed cache size of the page will be reduced down to 80Kb (which I like) -- however, before I take the plunge, I am curious what you all think the performance effect will be?
I know the number of bytes on the wire will be reduced, but will this put a lot of additional pressure on the client's browser because I'd need to traverse the name/value pairs and add the options to the select boxes dynamically on the client end? If it seems reasonable to do this, what jQuery approach would be the most efficient? $('#selectId').html(options) with options = one big string? Adding each child option to the select in a loop? Something else?
Some client end folks are using IE6 so I am trying to tax the browser as little as possible, while also reducing the size of each request, trying to find a happy medium..

Using the same code, I alter the $("#ipselect").msDropDown(); to a bogus ID such as ipselect1. The jquery dropdown select is gone, and the default select box is viewable. When I click one of the options, the click function processes with no issues. Is it not possible to use the click function with the dropdown select code? I think the image dropdown code was posted on the jquery site as a tutorial.

JQuery :: IE - Setting Default Value Of A Hidden Single Select Dropdown
Mar 3, 2011I have a single select dropdown in my application which is hidden for one type of user group. Before a user from this group can save any data, I have to explicitly select the default value of this dropdown for him as this dropdown is not visible to him.
Issue: In IE, this default value doesn't get selected as it is not populated but works fine in Firefox. Is this a jQuery bug?

Apr 21, 2010I use jQuery in a sharepoint environment and I have a form with a lookup value(dropdown), I set the selected value of the dropdown from code based on a query string parameter.
When I disable the dropdown the value will be ignored when posting the form, currently I hide the dropdown which will save the value on post but will ot show on page.
The question is,
Can I use jQuery to get the selected value and display this a normal text?

The idea is: If I have a dropdown list, suppose with values red, blue, green, yellow and so on. And a simple html textbox. Onchange With Select Tag - Dropdown Box
Aug 26, 2011I am using the OnChange event with the drop down box populated with countries.....but only works when certain countries are chosen.
When a country is chosen the OnChange event fires, passing a variable to the same page using the location.href.
Once this is done the onload within the body tag calls the function SetFocus() to the First Name text box.....which does not always work either.

Position Absolute Does Not Go Above A Dropdown (<select>...)
Jul 23, 2005I'm using the code below to display a menu that opens when the mouse
goes over the main menu item (try it in your browser to understand the
behaviour).
It uses "position:absolute" and a switch between "display='none'" and
"display=''".
However the problem is that
- in Internet Explorer 6 the dropdown (<select>...) always hides the
menu
- in Mozilla the menu is hidden initially but after clicking on the
text "Select" it isn't hidden.
How does that come and how can I overcome it?

Jul 23, 2005In our current application we have a page whose sole purpose for existence
is to permit the user to select from a list (subsequent to our login page).
We would like to have the list drop down automatically when the visitor
arrives at the page, perhaps by using the onLoad event to call the dropdown
code. The problem is, the click() event does not drop down the list, as I
would have thought it might.
I can successfully fire other methods using the object.method() syntax. Our
form is named "test," the select is named "sel1," and the code
document.test.sel1.focus() in fact focuses the control,
document.test.sel1.selectedIndex=2 selects the third item, etc. Given that,
I would have thought that document.test.sel1.click() would cause a similar
result to clicking the control, i.e., dropdown of the select. Instead, all
that happens is what appears to be a very quick redraw of the selected
value's text (i.e., it flickers slightly).
I've tried preceding the call to click() with a call to focus(), and vice
versa. No joy. I've Googled on several combinations of search terms, but
either there's no information on how to accomplish this or it was deeper
than the 3-4 pages I followed down into each of the search results.
Anybody know if it is possible to do what we want, and if so, could you
point me to a link where I can find sample source?

<select> dropdown list whose options correspond to these values. I want
to be able to select an item on the dropdown list based on the value of
the javascript variable.
Let's say this is my list and my variable:

Getting IE6 To Auto-select An Item In A Dropdown
Mar 21, 2007On this page (just a demo) I can’t get IE6 to auto-select the first item
in the dynamically-generated drop-down menus. Well, that isn’t entirely
true. Sometimes it works properly, but never on the first try. When it
fails, the error message it gives is:
"Cannot set the selected property. Unspecified error."
FF2, IE7, and OP9 all behave as expected. I have tried a variety of
workarounds to no avail. I don't have an exhaustive list of everything I
have tried, but it seems like I have tried a hundred ways of setting the
"selected" attribute.
The page uses jQuery 1.1.2. Currently the page is using...

....to auto-select the first item in the list.
Populating Inputs From Select Dropdown?
Jul 20, 2010I am trying to populate inputs on a form from a select drop down list (with date being pulled from a mysql database). This is to allow for any changes that need to be possibly made.
Is this even possible? I've tried doing some internet research, and the books I picked up from the library don't seem to go into this at all, so I'm not even sure that what I want to do is possible. The only thing I can really seem to think is that i need to use onChange. But outside of that, i'm lost.
