JQuery :: Select All Input Text Types Not Having Class Already?
Sep 23, 2010
I have a form that has a bunch of text inputs, and I would like to select all that don't already have a class "errorClass" assigned to them. My JQuery currently is:
$('input[type="text"]').addClass("idleField");
But that adds the class "idleField" to ALL text fields, overriding the ones that already had the class "errorClass" assigned to it. What is the proper syntax to add the "idleField" class to all text inputs that don't have the "errorClass" assigned?

Does anybody know if it is possible to reference only text inputs, and not radio and checkboxes, and if so, how?

Since IE 6 doesn't recognize type selectors in css (input[type=xxx] {}) I'm adding classes to elements dynamically so I have handles for the different types of <input/> elements.Here's what I'm using, but it feels sloppy (maybe not the most efficient approach?). Is there a better/less verbose/more efficient way to do this?
$('input')
.filter('[type=text]').addClass('input_text').end()
.filter('[type=radio]').addClass('input_radio').end()
[code]....

I have a text box.I need to
1) search the database for the words user is typing in the text box. This will happen with each key press.
2) if there is a match - I need to change the text color.
How can I achieve this?

How to validate input or select based on the class used?
For example: <input id="name" type="text" class="alphanumeric" value="">
Then for the validation:
if input class = "alphanumeric"
if !isAlphaNumeric(input.value)
alert(Enter valid value);input.focus
Before, I used onblur on the input to call the validator but it keeps prompting when I tried to out focus the input and I need to refresh the page.

<div class="wrapperAttribsOptions">
This pice of code is dynamically created by my shopping carts admin section which is an attribute for a certain product.
The problem I have is that all the attributes are displayed in an array and positioning each is not possible (well, I have posted a query in another forum with regards to that). I have taken the code, as viewed in the source code, and added it in where I please e.g. radio buttons, checkboxes etc, which function perfectly.
This does make 'duplicate' field but I have used display:none on the generated code which hides it. I have found a snippet of code which fixes issues will type=text fields....
But this can not be done when it comes to type=file.
Once you browse and select your image, i need the directory to be entered into the 'real' field for uploading when submitted.

I'm quite new to jQuery but love learning new tricks. I have a search box with a labelOver applied for the hint text and a select dropdown with 4 options. I would like to change the hint text depending on which option is selected.
Eg if the user selects "People" the hint text will read "eg. John Smith", if they pick "Year" the hint text will read "1985".

I dont think i am correctly adding the input type "radio" and the script cannot recognise the value properly as i'am trying to make custom radio buttons from javascript / css.
Here is the script thats stopped working but how do i make the radio buttons send the correct value to the quiz script?

I want to do the following thing:
On a simple html page I included jQuery. The page contains a big form including text input fields as well as select list fields (with multiple values).
I want to combine the values from all fields (text and select list) into one (hidden) textarea.

I have a form where a user enters a number in a text box (txtTickets). When that number is entered, I need to create an equal number of select boxes. I've found code examples which show how to dynamically add or delete options from a select box, but I have found no examples which deal with this specific scenario. The select options do not depend on user input -- that is, I do not need to populate it dynamically. I need to create them dynamically. Has anyone created something similar to this?

I have a problem to solve where I have a Hidden set of 40 text inputs. A link to show 10 more of these in inputs at a time, all having unique ID's. The goal I am trying to accomplish is to set the focus to say the 10th input. If the "show more inputs" link is clicked then the focus should go to the next 10th input (really input ID number 20) and so on.

JavaScript hides its memory structure.
I know that numbers, booleans, null and undefined are value types
(value is directed saved in a variable).
I want to know:
- How JavaScript distinguishes value types from reference types by
seeing the variable content?
- How many bytes are allocated in memory when I declare the following?
var i;
I can program in JavaScript without understanding them.
But I'm curious.

I'd like to create a quick and dirty validation method for a form. It's not meant to be very secure.
The way I picture it working is this - there is an input field that asks for a password. If the user types in the password correctly, the "submit" div tag will change from "none" to "block". , which will display the submit button. I just am not familiar with JS enough to know if that's possible.
Here's what I'm starting with:
Code:

I need help with javascript regular expressions.I have a text box in which user can enter only 4 types of values.
1) Varchar(n) where 0 < n <=80. Ex: Varchar(20)
2) Char(n) where 0 < n <=80. Ex: Char(20)
3) numeric(x,y) where x>y and 1<= x <=35 and 0<= y <=15. Ex: numeric(20,6)
If the text box value doesnot match this pattern, we should throw him alert message.

I'm trying to change what the user types in a text field if they hit a certain key combination. For example, "cx".
This code checks for the letter "x" to be pressed, then checks to see if the second to last letter is the letter "c". If it is, then it deletes the letter "x" and replaces the "c" with the letter "ĉ".
Code:
// This code checks for a certain keypress combo. For example cx, Cx, gx, Gx, etc...
// The hard to type esperanto characters we aim to insert.
var esperanto_c = "ĉ";
[Code].....

I have an in-house web application in which the user inputs items to a text field. Over 80% of all data entered into the field falls is one of three values, the other 20% is random. Can I make a select field that lets the user override the values with one of his own, or equally, create a textbox with a dropdown menu to select from?
The goal is to get the behavious of a web browser's address bar: the same control could accept random input, but also make suggestions in a pre-populated dropdown list.
Ideally, the control would work with and without the mouse, as the users are not confined to any single platform and we have Linux and Windows users as well.
I am not sure if this should be under JavaScript or CSS as the solution probably depends on both technologies.

<input type="radio" name="recurringEnd" value="date"> End on <input type="text" name="endDate" size="8">
My client now wants it setup so that if the text field is filled in, the radiobox is automatically selected.

I have been trying to figure out this seemingly easy function and have not had any luck.
Anyways, I have a form with a list of radio buttons, and one of them has a "select your own" or "custom" text entry.
<input type="radio" name="text" value="1" checked /> 0
<input type="radio" name="text" value="2" /> 1
<input type="radio" name="text" value="3" /> 2
[Code].....
Essentially, whenever a user either clicks in the text input or starts typing in the input, I would like the radio button to be selected. As of now, if you open the page and click on the text field, the default 'checked' radio button still is checked.
Does anyone know of a simple "onclick" event or something similar to accomplish this?

I have been studying php for a while now and i know that, i am now starting php oop and that going well but i have never done anything like this. Anway i am creating a booking system which at the end of the process asks who supplied your voucher which they then select a supplier.
The issue i have is my client wants it so if groupon is selected then an input text box should appear so that the user can input a security code from groupon.
So basically it is
<select name="supplier" id="supplier">
<option value="">please select supplier</option>
<option value="Groupon">Groupon</option>
<option value="KGB Deals">KGB Deals</option>
<option value="Other">Other</option>
</select>
So if value="Groupon" then <input type="text" name="security" id="security" /> should appear next to it.
page cant refresh as it will lose its data which would have taken the user about 10 minutes to fill out :(

I've seen a variety of implementations around that enable selecting all or no checkboxes by using a checkbox to toggle that choice. However, I'm trying to find a way like this: I have two text links on my page: Select All, and Select None. How can I get those links to call a jquery function to select all or select no checkboxes in my form? As a little food for thought:
<head>
$(function() {
//function for selecting all or none...is there a way to make a single function that passes in a parameter to differentiate between selecting all or selecting none, or do I need a separate function for both?[code]....

I have a problem created by my complete [rookie] status – only second time venturing into jQuery. I created a simple shopping cart using php and the PayPal buttons (1: buy now, 2: add to cart). The php back end does it great, it generates the table and the buttons and everything works just like it’s supposed to; Except, I forgot to add sizes. So I found out what I need to add, and I realize that the way the buttons work, I will have two different text boxes for size. Not very visually appealing, and since I’m not submitting this to the server before it goes to PayPal to pay, I cannot modify it with php the way I normally would. jQuery / javascript are my only hope of making this work. What I want to do:Have a single textbox where [size] is entered by the user.
Copy the value from the [correct] text box to the Value=”” section of the now hidden field in the PayPal form That way, no matter whether they [BUY NOW] or [ADD to CART] the right size is submitted to the PayPal shopping cart. This is the actual PayPal code that I’m trying to change
<table>
<tr>
<td>
<input type="hidden" name="on1" value="Size" maxlength="200">Size</td>
[code].....
I got this far, and then decided to find how to insert the "enteredVALUE" into the right place in the input text field (what I called output) and I've not been able to figure out how to stuff it in there.
