JQuery :: Keep Image Width / Height Ratio In Jcarousel When Resizing Page?
May 25, 2011
I've set up jcarousel and configured it to work how I need it to, apart from one thing; I need the images to keep their width - height ratio when the browser is resized.
I'm using the Flexible carousel configuration and the width of the images changes appropriately when the window is resized, but the height stays the same, I need it to change.

I got this working in chrome and was happy until I got to check out IE8! Enough said about that.The code I have now will work (in both chrome and IE8) if I manually set the height and width of the image but I cannot get them dynamically, for instance if images have different sizes, I've been trying for a while now but cannot get anywhere with it.The code I am currently using (of my own creation) is;
$("#lightbox_image_container").html('<img id="lightbox_image" src="http://www.veritywebdesign.com/gallery/gallery_images/image.jpg" />');
$("#lightbox_image").load(function() {
// image_width = $("#lightbox_image").width();
[code]....
How do I get the height and width dynamically after loading the image?

The *small, medium fullsize* text will be off to the left (in IE8 or IE9, works fine in Chrome, FireFox) and will not be aligned with the left edge of the image.
Code [URL] Line 154:
Code JavaScript:
ShowView.prototype.setImageSrc = function (imagesrc) {
var image = $('img#image');
[code]...
From what I can tell the `container.width(imageWidth);` is not rendered in IE8 or IE9. If the page is refreshed then it works. Using the built in developer tool shows the correct value in the html but if you use selector tool in the developer tool outline does not reflect the changed width value.I've tried using vanilla javascript. That did not work. I've tried setting the image source twice. That did not work either.

I'm just starting my first jQuery project (tutorial from this months Web Designer) and I've got a background image that I want to spread across the entire background, regardless of browser size. It's big, so I originally had an onload function. This works fine in Mozilla and Safari but not in IE.
My question is, can jQuery set a width and height of 100% and have it work in IE?[code]...

I have a strange issue with jQuery while using the following code :
$("#image").append('<img src="'+json.filename+'" id="cropje" alt="None" />');
$('#cropje').load(function() {
alert($(this).width());
}) .error(function(){
alert("FAIL TO LOAD IMAGE");
And the result is : 0 But it looks like the image gets loaded after the alert... How is that possible?

I've recently start using Flexigrid (old JQuery grid plugin), and, as you may know, one of the few issue this really good grid plugin got is the lack of liquid layout option. My personal idea to solve the problem is to set the "width" parameter depending on $(window).width. Here is the problem (and here's why i post this question in "General use" and not in "Plugin").
The starting, and working, code is:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#flex1").flexigrid
(
{
[Code].....
This work fine for me, but I supose it could be done way much elegant... maybe somethin without "IF" that could emulate the "%", like var percentage = $(#div.id).width()*0.XX with the 0.XX picked from an array of percentage, one for each column. Probably I should set up a function... ahhhh, as you may easily see I'm a total beginner with JQuery (and JS in general...)

I've written a small plugin to serve as a feature rotator and am having one strange problem.You can see some demos of the plugin and documentation here:
http://pbskids.org/pbskidswidgets/carousel.html.The plugin does a number of things that involve reading the width and height of DOM elements and using them to set the width and height of other elements. The problem is that sometimes in Firefox and Safari, when the page loads, the widths and heights of panels in the carousel are fracked.
Reload the page and the problem's fixed. In Safari, I can't get it to happen again on many reloads. In Firefox, though, if I reload repeatedly, I can get the problem to happen again: maybe once every seven or eight times.It looks like something's happening with page loading, but I'm at a loss to diagnose it further: is the script firing before the elements have fully loaded sometimes, and then works on subsequent tries because those elements are in the cache? Also: I've never seen this error in any of the IE versions.

I am FAR FROM BEING KNOWLEDGEABLE about javascript. On my web page, I want to have a slideshow run that'll show small-ish versions of images. I don't want the whole thing re-displaying every time, so I put together a little javascript to figure out how to show the images.....
I have one ALERT in here to show me the dimensions of the window and the image, and I'm getting one or more values coming up as "0"...... Which means that image doesn't display. The image(s) are NOT zero width or height, and neither is the window..
Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">

I have the task of creating an asp page that generates a standard email newsletter. The HTML Image Width and Height tags need to be set to the actual image size (no they haven't been set to a standard size on the server) as they are read in via an while loop. I believe in ASP, you are out of luck for a function that does this, so Javascript may be the way forward.
My code is as follows for the image inside an anchor tag, as you can see i tried the min and max style properties for the image, but this does not set them exactly. e.g. width="120px" height="94px", which is what is required.

i am using jquery to detect picture width and height in a page. if the size exceeds a specified value, then a maximum size will be assigned to the <img > attribute.
this jquery is run with $(window).load, because when $(document).ready the pictures may not be loaded and the script may fail
this theory is good. however, if the internet speed is slow, or the picture link is dead, user would have to wait for a long long time before the jquery executes.
is there any way to do the resizing job wisely? for example, resize each picture once each of the pictures is loaded?

I did some searching on here and came across a nice example of how to resize an iframe's height using javascript. I've been screwing with it for hours now but I can't seem to get it working for resizing the width. I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Here is the code:
function getIFrameDocumentWidth (IFrameDoc)
{
if (typeof IFrameDoc.width != 'undefined') newWidth = IFrameDoc.width;
else {
if (IFrameDoc.body && typeof IFrameDoc.body.scrollWidth != 'undefined') newWidth = IFrameDoc.body.scrollWidth;
else newWidth = null;
}
return newWidth;
}
function resizeIFrameWidth (iframeID, minWidth)
{
var IFrameDoc, oIframe = document.getElementById(iframeID);
if (typeof oIframe != null)
{
if (oIframe.contentDocument)
IFrameDoc = oIframe.contentDocument;
else if (oIframe.contentWindow)
IFrameDoc = oIframe.contentWindow.document;
else if (oIframe.document)
IFrameDoc = oIframe.document;
var newWidth = getIFrameDocumentWidth (IFrameDoc);
if (newWidth != null) oIframe.style.width = String(newWidth + 'px');
else oIframe.style.width = String(minWidth + 'px');
}
}
Then in the html page whre the iframe sits I use:
Code:
<body onload="parent.resizeIFrameWidth('myFrame', 250)">
Any ideas why this might not be working?

I've ran into this problem more than once, there are plenty of tutorials on how to toggle/fade a hidden div that already has data placed into it, but I want to $.load() a page into an empty div ID and then toggle/fade it into view.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this or find anyone in Google trying to either. This has to be the first time I've ran into a limitation of jQuery and it isn't even something that should be such a problem.

Does anyone know of how I could dynamically resize an iframe based on
the content's height (for IE) so that no scrollbar appears for the iframe?
The content will be from a different domain. I have searched on the web and
have seen solution like this
<script>
function resize() {
var oframe = document.getElementById("frameID");
//***
//var odoc = oframe.document; //(1)
var odoc = oframe.Document; //(2)
var obody = odoc.body;
oframe.height = obody.scrollHeight;
}
</script>
The html :
<iframe onload="resize()" src=http://different.comain.content border="0"
....... > </iframe>
I have seen 2 solutions on the web, the only difference being lines (1) and
(2) get substitued.
My browser is version IE 6.
It seems that the solution with line (2) works perfectly when the content is
from the same domain but gets a Permission Error if the domain is different.
When the content is from a different domain solution (1) does not give
Permission error, but instead the scrollHeight is significantly smaller
than the actual content. Even if the content is from the same domain it
still gives the wrong size.
So my question is
1) What is the difference between oframe.document and oframe.Document, why
does it give different results?
2) More importantly, how can I dynamically adjust the iframe size based on
the content height from a different domain?

I have a mysql database with a bunch of quotations in it. I created a blog at http:[url]....At the top of the blog is an iframe window that directs to http:[url]....On that page it uses php to pull out a random quote from the database. The iframe window displays that quote onto the blog.It works great except that the height is not automatically resizing.Is there a way I can use javascript to do this instead? Here is some pseudo-code of what I'd like to be able to do: (p.s. I do not know javascript or much of anything so I am looking for people to tell me how to ACTUALLY do this)
var stringvariable = http://aro2220.com/blog/index.html;
int stringlength = stringlength(stringvariable);
int autosize = 200 + stringlength * 5;
<iframe width="100%" frameborder="0" src="http://aro2220.com/blog" height=$autosize scrolling="no"></iframe>

Having a problem with iframe resizing when the iframe body is a jsp file which contains a dynamically built ajax table. Users select different options from a drop down. All but 1 is a standard static jsp file. The other is a jsp file with a dynamic ajax table which is generated the second the user select this option from the drop down. Problem is the javascript is not getting the correct height for the dynamically ajaxed jsp file.
Here is the iframe which is loading the contents file.
<iframe id="Editor" name="Editor" src="" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" onLoad="resizeIframeToFitContent(this)"></iframe>
Resize call:
function resizeIframeToFitContent(iframe) {
iframe.height = Editor.document.body.scrollHeight + 300;
iframe.width = Editor.document.body.scrollWidth;
} // resizeIframeToFitContent
As a current workaround I am adding 300 manually to the height this works but throws the height of the normal jsp files well out and makes the page to tall.
