JQuery :: Dynamically Created .live() Events Appear To Be Bound But Not Firing?
Mar 24, 2011
I've come across an issue where I've got a dynamically created popup class that despite appearing to be bound according to Visual Event does not fire on clicking the closebutton attached to it. I'm not getting any errors in firebug and by setting breakpoints I've verified we are not reaching the code to execute. Ruling out the usual suspects such as obvious spelling mistakes/ swapping out jquery versions 1.3/1.4/1.5 doesn't make any difference.where else I can look?Here is the original function:
$this.find(".close").live('click', function() {
var $this = $(this);
$this.parents("." + sets.popupClass).remove();
[code]....

So i have a javascript function which clones a Node on my page. That part works fine, as does the renaming of all the controls. The part that i do not understand, and cannot get to work is that several of the controls have an onclick event. On the dynamically created controls this onclick does not fire. Does anyone know why this would be, or possibly how to get around it?

I have a table with a date field in each row:
The table, and the input id element, are dynamically created from database records and I use jQuery live to initialize the datepicker for each field, like so:
The idea is that when I click in the input field, the datepicker pops up and allows the user to input a date. While the date shows in the input field in the table, the value attribute of the input field is empty. I can't use the getDate() method on the datepicker, since I can't programmatically connect the datepicker element in any particular row with the input element in that row. I tried the onClose method shown below, but that doesn't work either. Has anyone done this successfully?

I create buttons from an array of objects that such as:
buttons = [{ text: "button 1", action: 1}, {text: "button 2", action: 2}];
I then loop thru the array to assign the text and bind the click event after having created the buttons with IDs of "button_<index>".
for( var index in buttons ) {
$("#button_"+index).html ( buttons[index].text )
.click( function() { clickButton( buttons[index].action ) } );
}
The text appears correctly in the button, but every button defined only fires the list bound click, in this example the action equal to'2'whether I push "Button 1" or "Button 2".My actual case has four buttons, all firing the event for the fourth button.I've tried not chaining the .click(), going thru the loop twice once for the .html and once for the .click, neither of which made a difference. If I hard code each button .click, it works fine.

I have a page with a div that contains other divs. In the outer div, I have links that add new divs inside. I also have a link outside the outer div that adds more of those outer divs to the page (with an inner div, and the same links to add more). This works on the div that is hard coded on the page, but when I use the link to add additional container divs the links inside there to add more inner divs does not function.
Here is my code:
$(document).ready(function() {
$(".AddDisc").click( function() {
discContainerDiv = "<div class='discContainer'><div
class='trackContainer'><input type='text' class='trackInput' /></

In the examples for live() and delegate(), the selectors match at least one element that already exists. Will either of these commands work on elements for which there is no match at all on page load?
In my case, I want to bind a keyup event to the textareas that jeditable creates. I could probably create custom plug-in (to the plug-in :) to do the job, but I'd like to use live or delegate if they would work.

I have this boiled down to the following code: [URL]. I have two text inputs in a form, and a keydown handler to catch the arrow keys. When the focus is lost on an input, it is supposed to call the submit handler on the form. When I use the tab key, it works as expected, and calls my submit handler. However, when I use the arrow keys, it submits the form and goes to the action url, not running the alert in my custom submit handler. It's as if it either loses the bound submit handler or it calls a new default one or something.

Using : jQuery Validate (jQuery Validation Plugin 1.8.0)
Browser : IE 8
Code :
Problem: The live('submit).. code fires before the validation does. So, validation never actually stops the form submitting. In other browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari), this is not a problem, validation always fires first.

I have a textbox and a button. When someone clicks the button, then the ajaxStop() event fires properly. However, when someone types in the textbox and hits the Enter key, the ajaxStop() event does not get fired. Here's the relevant code bits:
The textbox:
var keywords = document.createElement('input');
keywords.setAttribute('onkeyup', '$(this).keyup(function (e) { if (e.keyCode == 13) { $("#submit_button").click(); } })');

I have live focusin and focusout bound for form validation. But if some content is created dynamically (either via a templating system or via ajax) it doesn't seem possible to initialise those elements (i have placeholder text that i might want to add inside the element for example).
Is there an event that is fired when an element is added to the dom?

I normally do this with livequery:
So any new .mylink's on a page would also be bound with my custom function.
How can I do this with the new LIVE event? or is it even possible?

I have a problem with jQuery appending new text to a div - but then not firing events attached to the inserted text.Let me explain. I have a div that contains a number of divs - the div has a link and a hidden form. Clicking on the link fires a slideToggle event which reveals the form.When you submit the form AJAX handles it and jQuery builds another div with the correct link and the correct form which it sticks on the end of the list. That all works fine and dandy.What I want to be able to do is to click on the newly-added link and have it behave in the same way as the other elements that were on the page when it was built. However, nothing happens when you click on it. Zip. Nadda. Rien du tout.Usually I have found a way round the problem - but I am slightly stuck on my current project. Apart from forcing a page reload, is there any way to get the browser to see the newly inserted link and apply the jQuery action to it?

I am finding that remove() does not remove live events. I'm wondering why this is. I've also noticed that the selector for .die() has to be specificand I can not simply do $("*").die().Is there a reason for this? I found that if I use delegate instead of live then it does get detached. I'd like to understand this since it's causing double/triple event triggering in my pages.

I am trying to accomplish something like this:
<p>
text <a>link</a>
</p>
----
$("p").live("click", ... something cool...);
$("p a").live("click", function(e){e.stopPropagation();});
//so the link is still followed but the click event on the P is not triggered.
This fails since live events bubble differently than bound events. So, what I have to do instead is $("p a").live("click", function(e){return false;}); but then the link is not followed. So, I do $("p a").live("click", function(e) location.href=this.href; return false;}); but then "open in new window" doesn't function correctly. Is there a good way to overcome this limitation/behavior?

I am looking for a way to simulate the actions of the hover (or mouseenter/mouseleave) whilst using the live method of binding (The items are dynamic). Is there a way to do this or will I need to use the 'old fashioned' method of unbinding and rebinding? I do not want to use a plugin.

This script allows you to replay the event-controls coded on your INPUT tags.
You must have a <div id="msgErreur"></div> in your HTML page.
PS : I'm working for an Intranet Webapp. All the users are on IE6.
So i don't mind with NS compatibility
-----------------
// Wait the end of load before manipulating elements
window.onload=doLoad;
function doLoad() {
if (document.forms.length > 0) {
for(i=0;i<document.forms.length;i++) { document.forms[i].onsubmit=doSubmit; }
}
}
function doSubmit() {
if (document.all["msgErreur"]!=null) {
if (document.forms.length > 0) {
message=document.all.msgErreur.innerText;
message=''
for(i=0;i<document.forms.length;i++) {
for(j=0;j<window.document.forms[i].elements.length;j++) {
cible=window.document.forms[i].elements[j];
if (target.value!='') {
cible.fireEvent("onchange");
cible.fireEvent("onfocus");
cible.fireEvent("onblur");
if (message!='') {return false;}
}
}
}
}
}
}

This is driving me to distraction and has probably been well and truly answered... but can the order of event firing on an object using a 'traditional' addEvent script (i.e. [URL] be guaranteed in IE(6+)? I am desperately trying 'to do things right' but IE is pushing me into despair - I need a blur event on a textbox to do 2 bits of validation one after the other.

I have a dropdown which is created on the fly and it contains several options like below.
<option>A</option>
<option>B</option>
<option>C</option>
<option>C</option>
while creating this i am attaching the change event using live() function. On changing the above option i am recreating the above dropdown again. This dropdown in under a div .For eg:it has an id=1. During the time of recreating the above dropdown,i am dettaching the event handlers using die() and after that i remove the div with id=1.Again i will create a div with id=1 and a dropdown.
The problem now is that when i try to change the option two change events are triggered.I think the die() method haven't worked. Is it because i have created the dropdown under the div with same id?

and what this function does it count the number of Characters that have been typed in a Textbox. so i am displaying the remaining characters. So that is working fine on my example because the Element is known at Early Binding. Now my question is what if the textbox is created dynamically ?
contentbox
this is the name of the Textbox in my example.
how do we use a J Query in Dynamically created Textbox.
