JQuery :: Detecting When LI Element Class Change
Jul 15, 2010
I am trying to change to change the background of a li element when its own class is changing
i tried :
$("ul#slide-nav li").each(function() {
if ( $(this).hasClass("selected") ){
$(this).css("background-color","black");
}else{
$(this).css("background-color","gray");
}});
This seems to be working I think., but once the class change again it doesn't work.. how can it loop for ever?

The competition is that there is a table width a heckbox inside and if the ckeckbox is checked the tr of this checkbox should get class "sel" and remove this class if it get unchecked. So the problem with the actual code is that everytime a new checkbox got checked the <tr> of the checkbox which was checked before losts the class "sel" and just the last checked checkbox will get it. Do you have an idea how the could must look like to get it work?
Html like this:
<table>
<tr><td><input type=”checkbox” class=”cbU”></td></tr>
<tr><td><input type=”checkbox” class=”cbU”></td></tr>
<tr><td><input type=”checkbox” class=”cbU”></td></tr>
<tr><td><input type=”checkbox” class=”cbU”></td></tr>
[Code]....
Even if the else will be deleted the problem is stil there so the failure must be in my code.

I have some legacy code that creates an image carousel and outputs AFTER the document head has been output - the CSS for this was being aded to a style block within the <body> which although worked is not compliant. I am trying to use jquery to set the css, but one part if failing. This is the original css :
#div_tab_one a:hover { .... }
#dic_tab_one .selected a {...}
How can I inject this css ? the selected class is set by some YUI code and rotates through the carousel setting/unsetting the "selected" class.

What options do I need to specify for the Validation plugin to simply add the error class to a specified element such as a "required" em that shows all the time. And so on to remove the class when valid.
Say we have a text input that I want to have a red border when not valid and the red border to disappear once valid. So I do not want to generate an error label.

I'm trying to find a way to change the CSS class for all my many input type elements with an onclick. Is this possible? The scenario I'm trying to fit it into is below (and condensed).
Ideally I'm looking to change the style for background-color onclick, black and white in particular (hoping that the solution would mean adding more colours later).

I'm using a text area to display textual updates to a user from the server. I'm inserting the text at the bottom of the textarea and need to set the scrollbar to the bottom of the textarea after every update. The problem is that the onChange event only fires if the user actually changes something in the text area, not if it is changed by an ajax update.Does anyone know of a way to detect if there has been an update to a textarea that was NOT triggered by a user?

I'm building an application that lets a user enter a text string in a text input box, then I display the text string in a separate division using dynamic html techniques. I use innerHTML to rewrite a div, specifiying the style elements inside the <div> tag, and placing the text string between the <div> and </div> tags. I use the overflow:hidden attribute to keep the text from visibly overflowing.
However I'd like to be able to actually detect that an overflow has occured, so that I can truncate the text string (change the form input element value) so that it contains only the characters that 'fit' without overflowing the div element.
Is there a way to capture the event of a specific DIV element overflowing?

I am trying to detect whether a user entered text in a textarea
or hit the delete/backspace button (thus, erasing something). Once
that is detected, I would like to set "var bSaveRequired = true;". It
would be great if this function worked cross-browser -- IE 6.0 and
Firefox.

I have an input field where users can input a number, and JavaScript calculates a result and displays it on the page. In order to have the best user experience, I want JavaScript to perform the calculation whenever the number in the field is changed. However, the "change" event works only when the input loses focus.
I have added "keyup" as a second event for the calculation to be performed, which covers many cases of user input. However, this is still not perfect, because the user could paste a value into the box or change the value in some other way (i.e. clicking the up and down arrows on compatible browsers).
Is there an event that fires whenever the value in the input changes, regardless of the focus of the input? Is there some other way to work around this problem? It seems like this would be the kind of thing that would have a thousand hits on Google, but I can't seem to find anything.
My code:
Code JavaScript:
function onLoadFunc(){
if(document.addEventListener){
document.getElementById("wm_buy_amt_input").addEventListener("keyup",

I need to know when the select element's dropdown list is opened (as when the user clicks on the arrow or does ALT-downarrow from the keyboard). Similarly, I need to known when the dropdown list closes.
The closing of the dropdown list can happen without changing the dropdown, hence the onchange event is not a sure way to determine that the dropdown list closed.
Is this possible in Internet Explorer?

hi everybody, didn't find this using the search :( this is my problem:
i create a dom element dynamically (<span>) and want to assign a class
attribute to it such that it has some css style, this works in ie, but
not in firefox :( here's the simple code:
<div id="somediv"></div>
var div = window.document.getElementById("somediv");
var span = window.document.createElement("span");
span.innerHTML = "span";
span.attributes.getNamedItem("class").nodeValue = "span_class";
div.appendChild(span);
so this works well in ie6, but firefox gives this error:
Error: span.attributes.getNamedItem("class") has no properties
if i run this code on a statically defined span (in the html file),
where a class attribute already is set:
<div id="somediv">
<span id="spanspan" class="">
</span>
</div>
changing the class to "span_class" works both in ie and firefox.
how can i fix my above code such that it works in both browsers? it
seems that on newly created dom elements the class attribute isn't even
there (to change it), how can i create it, and then change it?

<input type="text" id="City" name="City" value="">

not sure if this is the best way. Can I improve it?
However I am having problems in adding (2).
Basically I think I need:
$(this).closest("div.Field"). Label or span.Label that are not inside LI.addClass("Hover")

This is probably a dumb question (noob) but I cannot seem to find the answer, either here or on StackOverflow or even Googling...
All I want to do is, when clicking on an element, find any other elements with the same class name (and show/hide or do something with them).[code]...
But I need the class name to be a variable so this function is reusable.
What am I doing wrong?

I have a bunch of elements with multiple classes like this:
<div class="foo bar">
<div class="foo bar snafu">
<div class="foo bar">
I can get all these elements in an array like this:
$ (".foo,.bar")
My question is - is there an elegant way of getting the index (in this array) of the element that has the "snafu" class? Or should I just iterate through the array until I find the wanted element and then remember its index?

I have table that has four columns and many many rows. It is quite long. I need to add a special divider (border) between each td cell. I thought I could create a css style .border_right and apply it to all td cells using jquery addClass() and then remove the class from the fourth td cell in each row so it does not add to or affect the outside border of the table.
My question is, how do I remove the class from the fourth td of each row using jQuery? I figure there has to be a shortcut way (one or two lines) to do this using jQuery so I don't have to manually add a 'class="border-right"' to each td I need it on.
