JQuery :: :not Targeting A Child Element Not Working Correctly?

Nov 17, 2011

I'm trying to use a :not statement, so if you click anywhere else on the page BUT the element in the :not a div will disappear. When i use the same statement without the not, it works fine (click that one element and the div in the function hides).I'm assuming that the :not statement isn't working because the element is a child of its parent, so when you click it, essentially you are still clicking the parent which isn't included in the :not.

j(':not(.arrow)').live('click', function(e) {
j('.label').hide();
});

JQuery :: CurrentTarget Not Changing When Adding Element

Jan 15, 2011

I'm using jQuery so when I focus on the third text box, a fourth text box automatically appears.So, this all works really well... once. The problem is, my new input doesn't register in the DOM as being the new ":last" input in my <div>. So if I focus on the 3rd input, it will create a 5th, 6th, 7th, etc. input, but the DOM's currentTarget remains the 3rd input box, not the last one in the list.How do I refresh the DOM, or change the currentTarget to be the last input in the div, instead of remaining on the third?

JQuery :: Adding A Form Element To The Page Using Ajax?

Jul 26, 2009

I have a form on page1.php that will need multiple copies of page2.php to be placed or removed accordingly.

On page2.php it needs to have a select box (populated from a database) and a text area that will be posted along with the information on page1.php

Not sure if it'll help understand it, but basically page 1 has the employee's information, and they can add various details (and remove them) by pressing 'Add skill' then selecting a type from the drop down (communication, marketing, admin or whatever) and then a comment next to it.

Adding An Event To A New Element

Nov 22, 2005

I am trying to display a notice to users whose browser does not support a method for adding an event. However, I want this notice to appear in a DIV rather than in an annoying alert box each time the page loads. I would also like this DIV to go away if it is clicked on. However, I can't get anything into the onClick attribute in Firefox 1.5 or Internet Explorer 6.

var alert_element = document.createElement('div');
alert_element.style.color = 'darkred'
alert_element.style.border = &#392;px solid darkred'
alert_element.style.padding = &#395;px'
alert_element.style.cursor = 'pointer'
alert_element.innerHTML = '<b>Your browser does not support the addition of event listeners!</b>'

/* Remove the alert element when clicked. */
alert_element.onClick = "parent_element.parentNode.removeChild(this)";

/* Create the temporary status message element. */
parent_element.parentNode.insertBefore(alert_element, parent_element.nextSibling);

The "parent_element" is already declared before this is reached. There are no errors displayed and the new DIV element shows up just as expected. However, clicking on the DIV does nothing.

Adding Select Element Using CreateElement

Aug 17, 2007

In IE6 and below, when using createElement and appendChild to add a new select element to the page, it automatically selects the first option.

the page relies on using the onchange event of the select element, and if there is only one option and it is selected, there is no possible way to fire the onchange event.

To get around this, i've had to use innerHTML to build the select element, which I feel is dirty so I want to clean it up.

Any idea's? I have already tried setting each option's selected value to false, etc but nothing other than using innerHTML seems to of worked,.

Pre-calculate Width Of Element Before Adding It To Document Tree?

Oct 20, 2011

I understand that if I have an element in my document tree, I can use getComputedStyle() to determine its width based on CSS styles.

I want to dynamically create some elements to populate a given div, but I want the size of these elements to be controllable via CSS. When dynamically populating the div, I need to determine how many elements will fit. Currently, I have to add an element to the div first so its size will be calculated, then I can base my calculations off of that. However, this seems like not a great way to do ti.

Is there some way to ask for the size of an element to be calculated as if it were part of the document tree? That way, I could make my changes all at once.

<ul>
<li id="tab1"><a href="#tone" title="Local Tab One"><span>Local Tab One</span></a></li>

This works fine in Firefox he told me tabdivs.length 2 but in IE6 i got an alert tabdivs.length 0 .

Why IE6 found no childrens?
