JQuery :: Child Selector Not Working In All IE?

Apr 19, 2010

according to the docs this 'should' work in all IE versions except 6.Examples :

$("#gallery > img").css();
$("#gallery").children("img").css()

Even tried $("#gallery").find("img").css() None of those methods will work in all versions of IE(even 8). Works just fine in FF, Safari, etc...Is there a work around or another method of selecting the children of a selector in IE? I would really like to not have to add extra classes to those images just to select them.

JQuery :: Selector That Matches Element With More Than One Child?

Oct 22, 2010

I was wondering if there is a "selector construct" that matches an element having more than one child. So I'm looking for a solution that doesn't need
an if statement such as;

if($('ul').children().size()>1)
{
//do this
}

[Code]....

But I'm looking for a selector that already looks for these conditions. Kind of like how :has() works but then a check for more than one child.

JQuery :: Using The Child Selector, With Class As A Variable?

Apr 15, 2011

What is the syntax for accessing the children of a class, where the class is a variable?The html structure is multiple divs like this:

<div class="class1 class2 class3">
<p class="x"> lorem</p>
<p class="y"> ipsum</p>
<p class="z"> yadda</p>
</div>

(There's a structural reason for accessing the child <p> tags, rather than just the parent <div>s. Some <p> tags in some<div>swill have previously had a style change applied: if the changes are now applied only to the parents, some children won't change… at least not till they're hidden).Anyway: this code doesn't work, doesn't generate a FF error message, and doesn't stop subsequent chained functions from operating. So it can't be far off; and the syntax$(cl + ' > p') works ok in another function.

JQuery :: .class Selector Not Working In IE6

Jul 30, 2010

I am unfortunately having some problems with JQuery of late. I am working on a project in which I need to have an AJAX application working in all major browsers, including IE6 and IE7. I have created a click event for a button of the class "update" and "delete" in which an ajax request will be sent to the server. Unfortunately in IE6 (and only IE6) the event will not fire. After much experimentation I realized that it was the class selector.

Here are some code tests I have been doing to get a click event to fire:

Do you have any ideas as to why none of these work?

JQuery :: :not Targeting A Child Element Not Working Correctly?

Nov 17, 2011

I'm trying to use a :not statement, so if you click anywhere else on the page BUT the element in the :not a div will disappear. When i use the same statement without the not, it works fine (click that one element and the div in the function hides).I'm assuming that the :not statement isn't working because the element is a child of its parent, so when you click it, essentially you are still clicking the parent which isn't included in the :not.

j(':not(.arrow)').live('click', function(e) {
j('.label').hide();
});

JQuery :: Getting A Selector Working - Expect The Class Of 'testclass' To Be Applied To The Button After The Link Is Clicked

Feb 7, 2010

I'm having trouble getting a selector working. Probably best just to give you some example code:

HTML
<input type='button' class='test' value='Button Name'>
<div>
<a href='' class='buttonLink' />Click me</a>
</div>
Jquery
$(.buttonLink).click(function() { $(this).closest(':button.test').addClass('testclass'); });

Form that code I would expect the class of 'testclass' to be applied to the button after the link is clicked, but It doesn't seem to work. This is a somewhat contrived example. In my real application I have a form with several collapsable/expandable sections. If the fields in those form sections have values when the page loads, the section needs to be expanded, and the expand/collapse button needs to have a class of 'expaned' applied to it, if not it needs to be hidden. I can check the form fields and show the div if needed without any problem, but I can't seem to figure out how to work out the selector so I can add the class to the button.

Stylesheet Selector Not Working In IE8

Jan 20, 2010

I have been using some javascript to select stylesheets (dependent upon window sizes) without problems, until IE8. I have stripped the code down to the following which seems to be where it fails in IE8.

The normal stylesheet is the same as default. Without this older versions of IE go straight to large (without javascript).

For these settings, all browsers display the default (or normal?) stylesheet without the script.

When the script is run Firefox, Opera and older versions of IE will use the default stylesheet combined with the large stylesheet. IE8 uses only the default and ignores large. It doesnt appear to matter where in the page the script is run.(it has never worked in Safari, Chrome and older versions of Opera).

what i would like to do is instead of using "li:first" and "li:last", i would like to use first-child and last-child so the element doesn't need to be a li, in can be anything that is the direct child of the parent container.

Submit From Child To Parent Window Not Working

Apr 18, 2002

I have a script that opens a popup window (that runs through a wizard) and I need the final page to close the child and target the parent. Sounds easy enough, but it's not working in Netscape6.x.

I named my parent (window.name = 'main' and I target it in the child. This works fine in IE and NS4, but doesn't work in NS6. Is this not a W3C compliant solution and therefore not supported by NS6?

Can anyone think of a way to target window.opener or maybe use some other DOM method to get my child form to target its parent in NS6?
