JQuery :: Accessing A DOM Element In Dynamic Content Created Using AJAX
Oct 31, 2010
I am echoing some dynamic content into a DIV based on form entries. The content is essentially a dynamic table, with results populated based on the user input. The user can further refine the database results by entering more data into other fields. All of this works fine. What I'd like to add is the ability to click on an <a> tag header on each column to sort by that column. I haven't gotten it to work, so I wanted to try a more simple test. I currently echo <a id='test' href='#'>Click Me</a> into the DIV set aside for AJAX response. I then setup a jquery .click() event monitor to simply alert me when I click on it. If I place this <a> tag in the main portion of the content that is static, I get the alert box. But when I put this into the content of the DIV tag generated dynamically by AJAX, it doesn't fire the alert. Is there something I need to do to 'reload' the page? Is the dynamically added content not part of the document since the entire page isn't reloaded?

I'm working on a script that will produce multiple dynamic forms based on the results of an ajax request. The ajax request does a db query that will return 0 to x number of rows. For each row, a new serialized form is created. Since the forms do not exist at page load, I'm having problems getting the value of the form elements so that I can run other functions on them (update inputs and selects). I've stripped down everything so that I can show a basic example. In the example, how would I get the value of "#orderID"? The body contains a div (previousList) that has a list of items that when clicked will trigger the ajax query. It also has a div (line details) that will hold all of the forms that are generated.
<div id="lineDetails">
check it out </div>
<div id="previousFrm" class="ui-widget-header ui-state-highlight ui-corner-all">
<h3>Previous Returns/Cancels</h3>
<div id="previousList">
<ul class="previous" id="returnList">
<li id="1000997" class="names">1000997: 101853</li>
<li id="1000995" class="names">1000995: 101853</li> .....
But callingconsole.log("order line value is " + $("#orderID").val());
results in 'undefined'.

So in this way, I'm sending the unique code (codigo) and I fadeToggle the <tr> identified with that specific id, it works, no problem, it display with one click, hides with another one, BUT, now I need that, when you click on a hyperlink, if any other <tr> is being displayed at the moment, close all of them, and open the clicked one, is there any way I can do this?

I have been using YUI for the past 5 years and have begun to explore jQuery. One essential thing that I use is the YUI Dispatch plugin that allows for dynamic execution of ajax response content (i.e. js & css injection). Does jQuery or any of it's related plugins offer similar functionality to the YUI Dispatch plugin? Here is the link the the yui dispatcher for reference: [URL]

Dynamically loaded content (via JQuery's get method, for instance) seems unable to connect to a stylesheet that resides on the main page. I understand this is due to the fact that the dynamic content is not part of the DOM.

I've built this webpage : [URL]. Now, I want the slideshows (Jquery Cycle) to have a pager to navigate the images instead of previous and next [URL].
My code looks like this :
function ajaxpage(url, containerid) {
var $container= $('#' + containerid);
$container.hide().load(url, function() {
$container.fadeIn();
$('.slideshow')
.cycle({
next: '#next2',
prev: '#prev2',
fx: 'blindX', speed:'1500',
timeout: 0, .....
after: function() {
var alt = $(this).attr('alt');
// do something with alt text
$('#someElement').html(alt);
}});
});}
The code I need to implement looks like this :
$
('#slideshow'
).before('<ulid="nav">'
).cycle({fx:'turnDown'
,speed:'fast'
,timeout:0
,pager:'#nav'
,//callbackfnthatcreatesathumbnailtouseaspageranchor
pagerAnchorBuilder:function
(idx,slide){return
'<li><ahref="#"><imgsrc="'
+slide.src+'"width="50"height="50"/></a></li>'
;}});
How to do this successfully?

I wasn't sure if I should post this in the UI section or the regular one since I'm not sure what is causing this. Simply put I want to dynamically,programmatically create a simple dialog with paragraph and textarea elements. With the click of the dialogs button I want to be able to send the value of the textarea(Whatever was typed in) via an AJAX post.What is happening is when I try to access my textareas value via it's id and the .val() method I get nothing back. There is not an error just no value.

I would like to build an HTML page that has four content areas. The first with 3 links that when clicked chage what is shown in the other 3 - and so changing the default content in these sections. The content for these sections will be contained in seperate HTML files sitting on the same server.
I understand this can be done without refreshing the page and believe JavaScript and Ajax is the best method to do this. Any advice?

I'm sure some wizard will tell me this is a classic example of "piece of cake"; in which case I bow and promise to listen In case I've struck granite rock, feel free to throw questions my way and I'll tell you if I've tried it or not.
I have a file, main.php (I know this is the JS-forum, bear with me). It outputs HTML and inline Javascript functions. When the user clicks on a graphical "tab", that tab is activated, and an ajax call is made to fetch.php with some specific parameters. Once the ajax request has completed, a given innerHTML container on the now active tab is filled with the stuff that fetch.php outputs.
So far so good.
The problem is that the stuff that fetch.php outputs is partial pure HTML and partial inline javascript. And this is where it gets tricky. If I declare an inline javascript function in the returned data, Firefox (and I suspect MSIE) refuses to understand that the function is there. It simply doesn't exist (!).
Using the Web Developer add-on for Firefox, there's an option to look at "Source code" and "Generated source code". The output from these two differ in that when I view the "Generated source code", I see the dynamically inserted javascript/HTML from fetch.php, whereas viewing "just" the source doesn't.
What did I do wrong? How do I get the browser to find/accept/activate the javascript code/functions that were inserted dynamically? I cannot put them in a .js file and include it, since they need to be dynamically created, and I cannot use eval() since that executes javascript "as is", in which a function will not be executed unless called.

I'd like to place an AJAX call to load another SELECT menu in my form, and I'm having trouble finding a tutorial. For your Copying/Pasting pleasure :rolleyes:, here's an example button for which I'd include the onclick():
<button type="button" >Add</button>
And here's an example SELECT menu:
<select id="idNumber" name="weekday_1['workPeriod_new'][] >
<option value="1" >one</option>
<option value="2" >2</option>
</select>

I'm trying to write a script for a website that reads from a database and makes a separate table for each entry in the database. Since the number of entries can change, I want to dynamically create a div for each one, which I can later hide or display based on user selection. However, when I try to access the dynamically created elements by their ID, they return null. Is what I'm trying to do here actually possible?
for(var i = 0; i < tables.length; i ++)
{
var newDiv = document.createElement("div");
newDiv.setAttribute("id", tables[i].name);
newDiv.setAttribute("name", tables[i].name);
newDiv.setAttribute("class", "hidden");

I have recently started exploring the world of jQuery and it looks incredibley rich and powerful! I am stuck on something, though. When I dynamically create a div
var divTag = document.createElement("div");
//Set the parameters
divTag.id = "divMaster";
//Create it and immediately hide it!
[Code].....
This is probably really obvious, but I cannot figure out why? Perhaps jQuery is looking for elements already in the original HTML, and my div tag was added to the DOM after loading the original elements?

I'm using a plugin (asmSelect) that dynamically generates list items as the user chooses options from a select. I want to add additional dynamic content to each of the list items as they are created. How is this best accomplished? I thought I could delegate a 'load' event for the list items, but it looks like load events don't fire for content that's generated by JavaScript. (Delegating a 'click' event works, so I know I've got the code correct.)
What I want to do is basically equivalent to:
$('#testform').delegate('.asmListItem', 'load', function(){
custom_content = '<span>' + [calculated result] + '</span>';
$(this).append(custom_content);
});
Modifying the plugin to take the dynamic content doesn't seem like an option. The additional content will be different every time, so I can't just pass it as an argument when I initialize the plugin.

I'm trying to access the contents of a style tag in an ajax loaded document. Within the primary document, this (yaml inspired psuedocode) works just dandy:
html index.html
head
style body{color:red}
script jquery
[code]....
I get a "this[0].innerHTML is undefined" error.Now, it appears as though "data" is being returned a simple string. I attempted to add "html" as a "type" parameter to the get, like this:
$.get("index.html", null, function(data){$(data, "style").html()}, "html"); //logging omitted

Imagine an element with a specific selector getting created and then once the element exists and the selector is applied, all of the behaviors are applied (events, styles and plugin methods).
[Code]...
This would be similar to the live event where a function is applied to the specified event of all selectors even if they do not exist yet. The only difference is that the event is not the typical peripheral driven event (mousemove, keyup,etc) but would be fired once that element exists in DOM.
