IE Vs. Firefox: Delay In Receiving Response From Servlet Using IFrame

Feb 6, 2007

when I use Firefox to run my application (this involves
sending an IFRAME request to the servlet and handling the response),
there is no delay in displaying the data after each response. But when
I use IE, there seems to be a 1-2 second delay. The script sends a
request using IFrame, goes through a loop to return script tags
containing data to the browser, and then data is displayed by the
browser and a new request is sent. For IE, when a new request is sent,
the delay in receiving the response is quite noticeable.

JQuery :: Ajax Email Response Not Going Through - Not Receiving 'data.msg' From My Php File

Jun 29, 2011

I have got my ajax file calling the php file properly and executing some code in it, but nothing will get returned with json_encode().

Right now I am skipping form validation and just trying to get a response back of any sort:

Currently my site just shows the 'processing...' string but will change my css class to indicate a sucess.

Here is my ajax calling the php file:

When I change .html(data.msg) to something like html("<p>hello world</p>") I get the string back. So this line is working, but just not recieving 'data.msg' from my php file.

JQuery :: Form Plugin - Getting Response From IFrame With IE

Jul 4, 2011

I am using this plugin in order to upload pdf or excel files. I have not problem with Firefox but only with IE. Unfortunately, as I read on the forum, there is an issue concerning getting the response from the iframe, even if I can get the uploaded file. I need that functionality in order to get error messages from the server that will be displayed on the user interface. I know that it will be solved in a future version of the plugin but I wonder if there is a workaround. I made several attempts and I arrived at the point where a cross domain issue stopped me.

Iframe Src Url Caching Using Fiddler And The Response Code Is 304

Mar 22, 2009

I am writing one iframe dynamically from my code like below. document.write("<iframe src='" + location + "?querStr=" + querStr"' width='0px' height='0px'></iframe>"); location is something like - [URL] and the querStr is some parameters passing to the iframe. querStr contains some parameters which have timestamp appended. So the request url is always unique. In IE/FF2 i am seeing proper unique request (200 response code) but in Firefox 3, the url is getting cached. From my code (before sending the request) i can see proper generation of the request but actually the request url gets cached. I saw it using fiddler and the response code is 304.

Firefox - Replacing The Whole Page By The New One In Ajax Response

Sep 24, 2006

We have the following situation - when Ajax request is sent what's
being returned by the server is usually an XML (which is used for DOM
updates) but sometimes it's HTML which is a whole new page that should
replace an existing one. I.e when we issue an Ajax request we don't
know what will be returned and analyze the response to act accordingly.

Now, the way to replace the current document with a new one used to be
easy and portable for both browsers (we're only supporting IE6 and
Firefox 1.5):

document.open();
document.write( head );
document.write( body );
document.close();

where "head" and "body" are two parts of the result HTML. We had to cut
it to two (rather than going simply with document.write( NewHTML ))
because of IE - our head section contains references to external
JavaScript files (<script type="text/javascript"
src="sth.js"></script>) and IE only loads them when document.write()
call ends. So if body contains any script block (<script
type="text/javascript".. </script>) using any of JS referenced by
head - IE would fail with something like "Resource undefined" if we
push the whole new HTMl in one go by using document.write( NewHTML ).
But it worked perfectly fine in Firefox, meaning

document.open();
document.write( NewHTML );
document.close();

did the job just fine. What's even more important - it also evaluated
all JavaScripts correctly - both in external files referenced by the
head and in the JS blocks embedded in the body.

Until Firefox 1.5.0.6/7 where things stopped working completely - our
lovely and used-to-be portable code

document.open();
document.write( head );
document.write( body );
document.close();

caused Firefox to loose all CSS/JS and display an HTML only page (as if
CSS/JS were disabled). Removing document.close(); improved the
situation a bit by displaying the page with CSS this time but still -
*no* JavaScript was evaluated (meaning, JavaScript blocks embedded in
the document's body were not evaluated).

I took a different path from this point by pushing the new content to
document's head and body "innerHTML". It worked but not for JS
evaluation - I had to do that manually. To evaluate the JS referenced
in the head section of the document - I've traversed the head's DOM
tree while looking for the "script" nodes, then downloaded all of them
one by one using a synchronous Ajax calls (don't laugh!) and eval()-ed
the response. To evaluate JS blocks embedded in the body of the
document - I've traversed the body's DOM tree while looking for the
"script" nodes and eval()-ed them.

The problem is following: eval()-ing external JS files after
downloading them with Ajax doesn't work in 100% of cases - some
statements using Prototype functions fail to execute ("prototype.js" is
one of external JS files referenced in the head). Anyway, I'm almost
sure that what I'm doing is plain wrong, i.e it's sounds silly to
download all JS files referenced in the head and eval() them !

So how do I fix it ? Simply put - how do I replce the content of the
document to the completely new one received as a response to
asynchronous Ajax call ? The new content conatins doctype, head, body -
it's a completely new page. And all JS referenced in the head and
embedded in the body should be evaluated as well.

I really wish

document.open();
document.write( head );
document.write( body );
document.close();

was working in Firefox as before. Is it simply a Firefox bug, should I
submit it ? Btw, document.open.write.write.close() works just fine in IE6.

IFrame InnerText FireFox

Jul 23, 2005

I know that innerText is not supported in FireFox and I've found the
following code fragment which was originally designed in an HTMLElement
prototype for an innerText getter. I do not however want to use the
getter approach and want to just get the innerText as follows:

var childS = iframe.contentWindow.document.body.childNodes;
for(var i=0; i<childS.length; i++)
{
if(childS[i].nodeType==1)
text+= childS[i].tagName=="BR" ? '
' : childS[i].innerText;
else
if(childS[i].nodeType==3)
text+= childS[i].nodeValue;
}

Unfortunately, this does not work... iframe is an instance of an object
created as follows: iframe=document.createElement("iframe");

Any suggestions on how to make this work? I think the answer lies in
the declaration of childS but I'm not quite sure.

In IE 7/8 the error: event is triggered with the correct XML (XMLHttpRequest.responseText) but the textStatus reports parserror and the errorThrown returns [object error]. In firefox it runs without any problems and properly sets the sessiontoken variable.

AJAX :: Script Not Working After Receiving Request / Resolve This?

Mar 19, 2010

I've got a page that has a navigation and content div.

The navigation consists of a JS tree menu that has AJAX event handlers associated to all its links so that when the user clicks on any of the links, the content div will update accordingly. The content div is making use of a number of JQueryUI elements such as tabs and accordions among others.

All the JS works fine when I initially open the page; it's only until I click on any navigation link when the problems surface. Once I do none of the JS appears enabled any more in the content div.

I've tried linking to the JS file from the AJAX PHP script called, and that gets the JS to work but only after exhibiting strange behavior - the content div flickers between a JS enabled/disabled state for a few seconds. I figured this may be because the JS file's contents will have been duplicated as it is the same script loaded when initially opening the page.

Referencing Elements Within An Iframe In Firefox.

Jul 23, 2005

I've written several utility pages that use a dynamically created
iframe. The iframe typically has a form that is populated by the main
page. Then the form is submitted to be processed, and the returning
page does something -- call a function on the main page, change a
variable on the main page, etc.

All this stuff I created works on IE. Sorry, didn't have other browsers
available to test. Now I have access to a machine with FF, and none of
these scripts work.

So, short and sweet: What is the proper way to reference a form on an
iframe from the parent doc in firefox? Also, call a function from the
parent to the iframe, and vice-versa, call a function on the parent doc
from the iframe when it loads?
