IE Not Playing Nicely With Accessing File
Mar 23, 2011
I'm trying to allow a user to select an XML file so that my javascript can parse it and create some pins for a google map.It works fine in Firefox, and by using FireBug I can see that the file is being accessed as expected.IE on the other hand tells me that "'files.0' is null or not an object" on line 68 of address locator. php.

I am trying to get two scripts to run on the same page in Firefox - I haven't had the chance to sort out cross browser compatibility yet as I am not feeling like a glutton for punishment. The scripts are for a slideshow and a news slider. I can get one to run, and not the other, but they won't run together. The page link is ... The page is currently showing the news slider as functioning, but not the slideshow (hence the pictures flooding the page....).
Is it an issue of too many jquery references?

I am trying to play a .wav file and have it start at a specific part in my javascript. I found some code, but it doesn't seem to work in firefox, but does in IE. It also starts from start and I would like to start it at a specific time and then play it for about 10 seconds and then have it stop. Can someone help me with some example code?

I want to play an audio file embedded on my page by clicking on
an audio image and the page change to a new page. Is there a
cross-browser Javascript way to do this? Right now the code I have
is ...
<html>
<head>
<title>Dictionary: homeostasis</title>
<link href="liveink.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet"/>
</head>
<body>
<div class="dictionary-area">
<span class="dictionary-word">homeostasis</span>
(<span class="dictionary-pos">Noun</span>)
<br/>
<div class="dictionary-defn">The maintenance of a constant internal
state in a changing environment that is maintained by continually
making adjustments to the internal and external environment.</div>
<a href="homeostasis.mp3" target="new"><img src="audio.gif"
border="0"></a>
<div class="dictionary-close-window"><a
href="javascript:window.close()">Close Window</a></div>
</div>
</body>
</html>
The inconvenience is right now a new window is spawned to play the
audio., which contains the controller for playing the audio (complete
with pause, stop, and play buttons). All my audio clips are less than
3 seconds in length.. How can I play the audio file without launching
the controller? I don't care if there's no way to stop/pause the audio
once it's started.

User clicks on image map that displays DIV1 with player id="Player1". When user clicks on another part of the map, DIV2 appears with another video - but DIV1's player "Player1" keeps playing. How can I stop the event after going to another div? Lots of efforts "out there" but I've yet to find out just how to do it successfully.

I have the following script in my index.php file:
This works fine as long as get_labels.php is located in the same directory as index.php (root dir). If I move the script to a folder called 'includes' and use the following line: script:"includes/get_labels.php?json=true&", it doesn't work.
I've tried different variations:
What am I missing here?
Here's the plugin I'm using:[url]

There's a script on my site that's included like <script src='somePHPfile.php?params... etcIt generates an image with some text in it and a few links.When I click 'view source' it just comes up with the <script> tags and nothing else. In Firefox, if I right click on the actual image and go to this frame > view source, I can see everything it's doing.

I have an HTML file input control, like this:
Code:
<input type="file" id="FormsFileSelector" name="FormsFileSelector" size="40" maxlength="1000" style="width: 382px; white-space: pre;"
accept="image/gif,image/jpg,image/jpeg/,image/tiff,image/bmp"
>
And it does indeed allow the user to select a file on his computer.
But when I access the value of the control I get an odd value. I do this, in javascript:
Code:
var FileSelector = document.getElementById("FormsFileSelector");
var FileName = FileSelector.value;
And the FileName that I get is "C:/fakepath/MyPicture.jpg"
The actual path is C:/MyDocuments/MyPictures/MyPicture.jpg". But instead it's coming up with "fakepath".
Very weird! How do I get it to return the actual full path to the file on the user's computer?

I found the tutorial on the W3C website for AJAX and it's great, it gives the following code
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function showUser(str)
{
if (str=="")
{
document.getElementById("txtHint").innerHTML="";
[Code]...
I'm curious to know if it's possible to just use code from within the same file instead of accessing 'getuser.php'? If so, how?

I have been playing with JavaScript few days now. I have a php script that returns data in XML. I want my Dashboard (html) page to show the response back from my php file. Since this is going to be a Dashboard hence it needs to refresh the content every second hence using JavaScript.
I want to get some guides, tutorials, or how-to for this. Any help would be much appreciated.
Here is what I get from my .php file if I do a POST method to it and define variable "extension=9999" to it code...
How can above be nicely presented in an HTML using JavaScript and how would this query be refreshed and re-POSTED every 1 second?
P.S. Amount of XML data coming back to me is dynamic. So, I don't know how much data I get back. Sometime nothing. Sometime 4 childs. Sometime 10 childs in the XML.

I am preloading some images, so prior to the downloading I have:
In Mozilla: initially WxH = 0x0 ... after img downloaded WxH = good# x good# the div just stretches just the right amount to fit snuggly around the newly loaded image;
But the other browsers do different things;
My current solution, which works, uses a new Image().width approach where I manually resize the container div;
How to get the other browsers to automatically resize the container divs;

my website [URL] has been left unfinished by my friend and it doesnt look like he can finish it now. I have some understanding of code and have manually edited the existing pages in notepad to fix some issues. The one issue I have left is on the javascript samples player which overlays the main screen. I have all of the files (an flv and swf plus a folder full of js and a vbs file). As you will see, the morning chapter does not play but all of the others do. I have checked the flv in a player and it works fine, and it was created in the same way as the others. All flv and swf files are uploaded correctly I just can't work out why it is not working.

some special code needed for detecting Netscape Quicktime plugins, and what about IE?
