Accessing The Output Of A External File?
Oct 15, 2011
There's a script on my site that's included like <script src='somePHPfile.php?params... etcIt generates an image with some text in it and a few links.When I click 'view source' it just comes up with the <script> tags and nothing else. In Firefox, if I right click on the actual image and go to this frame > view source, I can see everything it's doing.

I've came across this code on the vbulletin forums probably a year or two ago and everything has been working great however I would like to change the output a bit. Right now the script will output the entire thread title on my home page (html page).What I'd like to know from any of your javascript programmers, is there a way to limit the thread title length? Say instead of the entire thread title maybe only show the first 15 characters?
Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.domain.com/forum/external.php?type=js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">

I'm writing a script and I've encountered a problem.. I have a txt file with many words, each word in a different line. For example: the file words.txt contains:
word1
word2
word3
word4
word5
I need to load the content of the file into a variable in my script. I prefer that all the words will be in the same variable with line breaks, but if you'll figure out a way to put it in an array, it's ok too. I really don't know how to do it, and I tried to google but didn't understand.. By the way, I don't want to change the txt file to js file, I need it to remain txt..

I got an [object error] from IE 7.0.5730.11 when moving the <script
src="..." type="text/javascript" /tag from the <headpart to the
<bodysection of a HTML file.
Is not possibile to include Javascript code via <script src="..."
type="text/javascript" /from the <bodysection, instead from the
<headone? If yes, anyone has any idea of which the problem could be?
If not, how can I programmatically include a javascript external file
inside the <bodypart of a HTML file, for example, using Javascript
to some particular native functions?

Can JavaScript be used to write the output from an HTML form to a text file? The scenario would be that the form has text fields and checkboxes and will only output the text fields that have data entered along with the checkboxes that the user has selected.

I have a CGI that logs into a a secure site of mine. Basically, all the CGI
does is send the username and password I have set up, and then the normal
page opens in my brower. But, I would rather send this HTML to a file, parse
it, and spit out a different page depending on the user that's logged in.
The problem is that once the username/password gets passed to the web
server, it opens to a new page, the default page. How can I get the HTML
from that page without it opening in the browser?

I have a simple XML file that looks something close to this:
<presence id="12345">
<status>in a meeting</status>
<priority>1</priority>
[Code]....
If you require a bit more info on the project itself, here's a rundown: This xml file is created by an internal chat app at my office. Each employee has their own xml file listing their current availability and status (hence "in a meeting"). This will be used to determine the availability of certain individuals in the building without having to be logged in to the chat app. That's why there's multiple xml files going to be used (roughly 10-15 in the end).

I have the following HTML file:
---
<html>
<head>
<title>Test</title>
<script type="text/javascript" src="test.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
Hi There. <a href="javascript:doit()">Click Me</a>
</body>
</html>
---
The following js file:
--
function doit() {
alert("I did it");
}
--
Running htm file locally (double click) gives me security warning (XP
SP 2) but if I then select "allow script to run" everything works fine.
But when I serve page through IIS (localhost) I get a syntax error line
4 char 4. Of course there is no line 4 in the js file.
This HAS to be something simple I am missing but I have tried:
- with and without language attribute in script tag
- relative and absolute paths for the js file
- with and without Mime type for js set in IIS
Only remaining thing I guess it could be is file permissions but
everything has execute on it as far as I can see.

I am a newbie to Javascript and JSP. I wish to create a jsp file to read the inputs from an html (registration form called member.html), check validity of inputs using javascript and finally generate an ouput as an html file displaying the user inputs. Following is the code for the member.html file
<HTML>
<TITLE>New member application form</TITLE>
<script language="JavaScript" src="javaScript.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<!--<HEAD><H2><P align = "center">Welcome...</P></H2>-->
<H2><P align = "center"> Member Registration Form </p></H2>
</HEAD>
<HR>
<BODY> .....
The error I experience is that nothing happens when I click submit button. I have installed Tomcat 6.0 and do not seem to have issues with that.

This works fine as long as get_labels.php is located in the same directory as index.php (root dir). If I move the script to a folder called 'includes' and use the following line: script:"includes/get_labels.php?json=true&", it doesn't work.
I've tried different variations:
What am I missing here?
Here's the plugin I'm using:[url]

I have an HTML file input control, like this:
Code:
<input type="file" id="FormsFileSelector" name="FormsFileSelector" size="40" maxlength="1000" style="width: 382px; white-space: pre;"
accept="image/gif,image/jpg,image/jpeg/,image/tiff,image/bmp"
>
And it does indeed allow the user to select a file on his computer.
But when I access the value of the control I get an odd value. I do this, in javascript:
Code:
var FileSelector = document.getElementById("FormsFileSelector");
var FileName = FileSelector.value;
And the FileName that I get is "C:/fakepath/MyPicture.jpg"
The actual path is C:/MyDocuments/MyPictures/MyPicture.jpg". But instead it's coming up with "fakepath".
Very weird! How do I get it to return the actual full path to the file on the user's computer?

I found the tutorial on the W3C website for AJAX and it's great, it gives the following code
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function showUser(str)
{
if (str=="")
{
document.getElementById("txtHint").innerHTML="";
[Code]...
I'm curious to know if it's possible to just use code from within the same file instead of accessing 'getuser.php'? If so, how?

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding something that seems relatively simple. When I make changes to CSS in JavaScript using '.style' I'm changing the attribute values of inline CSS. Can I use JavaScript to change the attribute values of rules in an external CSS file? I have no CSS in my html and would like to know if I can grab the values of attributes in an external CSS file using JavaScript.

I have the following directory structure
index.jsp
a.js
b.js
|
|--/templates
|
|--/blah.jsp
Now blah .jsp is included INSIDE index.jsp.
In blah.jsp I have a button that calls a function inside b.js.
In index.jsp I have following code inside head tags:
<script src="a.js"></script>
<script src="b.js"></script>
and I figured since blah.jsp is included inside index.jsp, I should be
able to access the javascript methods with ease. But its not happening
that way. I get an error (object expected in the line that has button in
it). BTW, its not a problem in my JS or JSP code, because if I put the
js file's contents inside blah.jsp, then it works like a charm!
So what am I doing wrong?
I also tried moving my script import statements inside blah.jsp as:
<script src="../../a.js"></script>
<script src="../../b.js"></script>
But this doesn't seem to work either?
