HTML - Link To Scripts On Google - Local Copy As Fail-safe?
May 11, 2009
I want to save a bit of bandwidth and trouble by linking to scriptaculous and prototype on Google, a la:
CODE:
BUT, I would like to be able to specify a local copy of the scripts as a fail-safe alternative. Is there a simple HTML way to specify an alternate src property?
And I've tried searching, but "alternate script source" and various permutations just lead to useless HTML basics. ...and not the kind of basic HTML.

My current set up is a form that gets someone to enter "City, State" then when they hit the submit button i used PHP to set up a variable called $location which was set to google.com/maps?q=from%3A+city,+state+to%3A+city,+state the $to variable is sent from a hidden input and is equal to the club they want to go to. After that i do a few string changes to get rid of the spaces. after its' all done it becomes $location.
What i currently have is a simple window.open() using javascript to open up the window. This works fine with one major problem.. popup blockers stop it from opening and the people browsing this site aren't exactly tech savy. They usually have no idea how to allow popups and this becomes a problem. The only reason i have it set up the way i do now is because my javascript is very limited.. but my php is pretty good. Is there a better way to open up the new window without popup blockers stopping it? If not do you know a way I could set up javascript to change a hidden input on the fly as the person enters their info so i can just use method="GET" and have the action to google.com/maps.

I have some Javascript that is selecting text from a form textarea and copying it to the clipboard:
document.myForm.myTextarea.focus();
document.myForm.myTextarea.select();
document.execCommand( 'Copy' );
This works great. However there is a problem when I try to paste the text somewhere else. Assuming that the text that is being copied is a [URL], I would like it to be pasted as a link. When I grab a URL from the address bar inside a web browser and paste it somewhere ( such as an e-mail ), it automatically shows up as a clickable link. When I put a URL into my form textarea and run the javascript, it gets pasted as a plain text ( ie. not underlined and not clickable ).
Why are these two different? I've tried running a program to see what is actually copied into the clipboard and I don't see any differences. There must be something that denotes the URL copied from the address bar as a link and therefore makes it clickable when pasted. Is there a way to force this in order to make what is copied to the clipboard from my form textarea a clickable link?

For a project I am working on, I need to retrieve links from html
documents. The easy part is to obtain 'plain' links like <A
HREF="http://site/path/document">, but when those links are
javascript'ized, the only robust solution needs to load the javascript
and dom document representation in the same way that browsers do. For
example, links in the form:
<A HREF="javascript:function_declared_before("arguments"));>
First I though that using spidermonkey (the mozilla javascript
interpreter) should be enough, but in that case, I dont have the
document structure elements (like document, window, document.history,
document.form.element, etc), so I tried parsing the document using a
library to build a tree representation of it, but that leads me to the
same problem again, that is, I have to represent all tree nodes as
javascript entities.
Anybody here have worked on a similar problem? What tools do you
think I should take a look?

IE 6.0 (not interested in other browsers at the moment)
I have looked everywhere I can find to look and googled until I am
cross-eyed and am hoping somebody knows what I'm doing wrong.
I have an HTML application (.hta) working fine, except one thing. I'm
trying to write to a local database from a .htm window (opened from
the main .hta window) and it doesn't work with any of the combinations
I've tried (and I admit to having tried a lot).
Here is one method I've tried:
strSQL = "Update myTable SET myField = 'myValue' WHERE myID = 12;"
var db = new ActiveXObject("ADODB.Connection");
db.Provider = "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0";0
db.ConnectionString = "Data Source='c:myDirectorymyDatabase.mdb'";
db.Open;
db.execute(strSQL);
I can easily access the information in the myDatabase.mdb and display
it on the screen.
I can ask for updated information to be input on the screen.
But stuffing that updated information back into the database is the
problem.
Since I'm stuck in an .htm window, I don't have VBScript available, do
I? If VBScript isn't available and it isn't physically possible with
Javascript, then I'll have to revert to .hta windows, where I know I
have VBScript available. But I'd rather do it all in Javascript
within the .htm so as to avoid the security message that pops up when
the .hta opens a new .hta. For various reasons I don't think it is
possible for me to do this whole project within a single .hta.

I need to be able to search through an xml located on my local machine with an html page. Here's the thing: this whole system (html files, xml file) will always be on my local machine. Because it's a class project it won't be on a server. So here's the scenario: I navigate to where my files are located (say C:) and I double click my index.html page and this page opens in my browser and from this page I need to be able to search my xml file which is at the same location. I've tried xmlhttprequest and it won't open the xml file I'm guessing because I don't need an http request.
Here's what I have so far:
if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {
xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest();
} else {
xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
} xmlhttp.open("GET","C:MovieDB.xml",false);
xmlhttp.send(); xmlDoc=xmlhttp.responseXML;
function searchDB() {
if(!xmlDoc){
alert("error")
} var keyword = $('#txtBox').val();
var searchVal = $('#basicCategory :selected').text();
var allitems = xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("Movie");
for(var i=0;i<allitems.length;i++){
alert(allitems[i].getElementsByTagName(searchVal[0].
childNodes[0].nodeValue);
} }
The code doesn't make it past the xmlhttp.send() line.

I've got a requirment to copy some content from an HTML page. It is
a failry lengthy page and we want to give the user/reader the ability to
click a button and have a section of the page copied to the clipboard,
or at the very least selected so they can just right click and copy it.
The issue is that text/content to be selected/copied is not in a textarea.
I've got it in a div right now and can get the innerHTML of the div and
set a text area to that but it comes in with all of the HTML tags and so
when I copy it to notepad I get all of the tags which is what I dont want.
Has anyone done this before? I've tried numerous things to get it to
work and have had no luck.

I'm trying to output an HTML page from a simple XML file, but I need to offer this as a service from a website, so users can browse and find the XML file on their local hard drives, and then generate an HTML page.
I think there are some security issues with HTTP not being able to access local files (ie. C: emp.xml) because it doesn't work when I browse to a local file from the website (files on servers work fine). Is there any other way to pass an XML file from local to a website?
I'm using the following javascript to load the XML file.
var xmlDoc=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM")
xmlDoc.async="false"
xmlDoc.load(filepath)

I have a html:select tag box and I want to make it copy pastable directly from an excel sheet or notepad so as to dynamically updating its options, is it possible. Current code has html:select box separately and below this another text box is there, where i fill the numeric value, then press add button below and then it gets updated in the html:select tag box.
Is it possible to copy from some list of numeric values and then directly paste into the html:select and the array list gets updated from this pasted list.

I have an issue where I am trying to allow the user to click on a table and automatically copy a table into the clipboard. I do this with text using IE:
function clickCopyText(fi) {
window.clipboardData.setData("Text",fi.innerText);
}
so to copy the table, I tried:
function clickCopyHTML(fi) {
window.clipboardData.setData("Text",fi.innerHTML);
}
The Trouble with Tables is the HTML itself gets copied as opposed to the rendered table. I am probably looking at some other way of getting the code to the clipboard, but I am stymied. I can do it with images, but not with rendered HTML.

I'm working on a webpage which is completely self-sufficient. This means if you copied the source you would be able to load it locally without any glitches from your computer. I want to embed a "Save As" feature into this document using only javascript or jquery. For various reasons I do not have access to a server-side language to perform this action. I've done some research but can't seem to find a definitive way to do this.
My goal:
User clicks "Save As HTML" button which triggers jquery to copy the source of the page and present it to the user as a mypage.html download. My fall back approach will be to open a new tab with just the desired html and instruct the user to manually "File -> Save As". However, this is very undesirable and I would like to find a solution to fulfill the goal above.

This question pertains to Google Analytics (GA). GA provides a specific way you can assign a Goal to the event when a user clicks a link on your site that points to an external site.
Implementing this code isn't confusing, however, because it relies on the javascript onClick, I am worried it is conflicting with my links - as they, too, are configured using onClick. Here's an example of one of my links, with the GA onClick command added after it:
<a href="#" onclick="window.open('http://www.example.com', null, 'height=800, width=1000, toolbar=0, location=0, status=1, left=200, top=50, scrollbars=1'); return false" onClick="javascript: pageTracker._trackPageview("/G1/example");" title="Example">Click here to visit example</a>
As you can see, I am using onClick twice in the same code. I don't think that that's correct syntax. I tried putting them together like this, but it didn't work:
onclick="javascript: pageTracker._trackPageview("/G1/example"); window.open('http://www.example.com', null, 'height=800, width=1000, toolbar=0, location=0, status=1, left=200, top=50, scrollbars=1'); return false" title="Example"
how I can keep my onClick method of employing links with window.open, but also assign a trackPageview to the action for goal purposes.
