Functions Are Not Launching When Called / Why Is So?
Jan 11, 2010I don't know why this won't run. maybe i have the body that calls the function "show_prompt()" and "byebye()" wrong? [code]...

View 3 RepliesOk, so basically what I've got is a button which when clicked, "opens" a section of the page. I also need the button to "jump" to this section of the page, because it's below the current content and won't be visible. What I've got so far is ...
Javascript
<script language="javascript">
function toggle() {
var ele = document.getElementById("toggleText");
var text = document.getElementById("displayText");
if(ele.style.display == "block") {
[Code]....
If I put two separate buttons, both functions will work. Basically I need them to be on the same function, not sure how to do that?
I've been trying to write a Javascript Mortgage Calculator for the past day and I believe I've got the structure right, although for some reason my functions must not be operating correctly or are not being called correctly. I'm almost afraid to say that it could be an error in the functions usage within the while loop. This Mortgage Calculator uses the principle of "bisection" to guess at the monthly payment necessary to fulfill the standards of the mortgage in question. This means that the loop is used to consistently halve the value of a guess until the correct monthly payment is guessed. Here is the code:
<script type=text/javascript>
function calcMortgage (amountText, yearsText, interestText) {
// constant definitions
// variable declaration
var amount = Number(amountText);
var years = Number(yearsText);

I am using objects in JS and I am trying to add draggable() into a DIV that works when I move the function out of the object context.
Example:
Code:
That does not work. However, if I do this:
Code:
Then it will work... because the draggable() function is not within the object.
I need this to work within the object, because I will have several DIVs associated with objects and I need them to have draggable() in specific cases.
I can't seem to get the syntax correct to get this to work. I'm sure it is something simple.I want to call multiple functions inside my document.ready function.The first function gets called but not the second.
$(document).ready(
function GetSuspectCollection() {
$.ajax({[code].....
im launching a new site that is the same topic as another site i have
i want to launch the new site as a pop up or pop under from the established site.
What code would i use to generate it so that this only happens per unique visitor and not per page impressions.
What I'm after or trying to do is simply create a script to launch a new page after a X amount of time, like a popup. But I need the new window to have the following options like no toolbar or scroll bars etc... This is the code I've been trying to manipulate for my purpose and just can't get it right meaning it doesn't work at all in fact I haven't even been able to get the timer part worked in since I couldn't get the launch part working..... I've made a web app using asp.net & vb.net and need a launch page so I don't have any toolbars or scrollbars etc....
<html>
<script>
var customerWindow;

I am using a jQuery plugin called simpledialog. It normally launches with a button click or a link click, but I want it to launch conditionally instead. I'm doing some javascript checks and if statements and if they go thru, I want to launch the pop up, without anything being clicked or anything. Essentially as soon as the browser loads the web page. I couldn't really find any plugins that support this feature, so it there maybe a workaround?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI try to open a file chooser dialog when pressing a button.
Here is what i have up to now.
I took that example here [url]
One of the features of a site I'm working on is a button similar to the Facebook "LIKE" or Twitter "Tweet" [really exciting stuff to help with, right? ]
As such I need to be able to open an iframe as a layer on the page but can't load up a framework given the weight and potential for conflicts. The goal here is to be as light as possible while also avoiding conflicts. The page is multi-part so a simple layer won't do, it has to be a full fledged iFrame with the ability to fade the underlying window and close it down while also floating over page elements, drop downs, even flash.
Colorbox-min would be an ideal solution but the dependancy kills it. I do pretty well with frameworks but on my own am a JS novice. In a world full of ready made scripts,
I am trying to launching a centered browser window via a form-button using the following code...
<button type='button'
onClick="window.open('myURL','testwin','width=400, height=400, left=(screen.availWidth-400)/2, top=(screen.availHeight-400)/2'); return false">
Test button</button>
The new browser appears the correct height and width, but the left and top clauses are ignored.Am I being too ambitious trying to make this code in-line? Is there any other syntax I should use or should I give-up and call a function instead (I would rather not if I can avoid it)?I am using Firefox 3.0.17 (latest), but the same effect happens in IE7.

I have written a number of functions designed to return frequency data on 1000 randomly chosen numbers using different math functions for the rounding. I would like to include all of these functions within the wrapper of another function so that only one call is needed to get returns from all of the 'inner' functions. However, while each of the functions works in isolation, the moment I wrap them in another function they stop working. :confused:
The following code is one of the functions 'frequencyWrapperOne' that has been wrapped in the function 'testWrapper'. A call to testWrapper does nothing.
function testWrapper()
{
function frequencyWrapperOne()
{

$(something).split(something),this is a function with a function as a property for that function.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI know what the !-- and // -- do in a script, but what are they called? I've never heard a name for them, and personally I have always referred to them as passover signals, because they make old browsers who can't read code in between the !-- and // -- skip it all so errors won't come up.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have several form in my site, that validate on onsubmit.I call all the validation functions from a file call functions.js.Here is a sample of the code that is working:
<form name="contact" action="contact-insert.php method="post" onSubmit="return checkform()">
<label class='SubHeadlbl' for='TextField1'><?php echo IDS_EFORMNAME?><br></label>
<input type='text' name='dfname' class='text_field' id='dfname1' size='70' maxlength='40'/>

all the other forms are not working. all have the same structure:

calling a php page through AJAX. and it works Aok. I wanted the ajax backend php file to call a function in the front end page. even a simple alert from the backend php file wont work.
My code to call the alert and parent's javascript functions are below.
Simple alert
echo "<script language='javascript'>alert('Please Help Me');</script>";
Calling Front End Page Function
echo "<script language='javascript'>frontend_function();</script>";
I'm trying to submit a form from a window.onload event as follows:
<body>
<form method="POST" action="http://www.website.co.uk" name=login>
<INPUT TYPE=hidden NAME="Username" value=username04761316 >
<INPUT TYPE=hidden NAME="Password" value=password05497967 >
<INPUT TYPE=hidden value="Sign in">
</FORM>
</body>
<script>
window.onload = document.forms[0].submit;

This page looks up a username and password and submits a form to log
on to another application on a different server. This works on my PC
and on most other PCs I've used to test this on, but it's not working
on one of our user's PCs. It remains on this page, and it appears as
if no attempt is made to execute the script.
We're both using Internet Explorer 6. Are there any browser settings
(or anything else she might have installed, such as popup blockers)
that might stop this code being run? I've checked the proxy server
isn't stripping out the JavaScript.
If I have a link to a URL such as <a
href="http://www.mysite.com/somecode.htm?5">Link1</a>, and if I include
javascript in the somecode.htm file, is there a javascript command that I
can use which will read the argument 5?
For that matter, is there anyway to send an argument to the javascript code
of an html link you are calling. Server scripts are not an option for me.
For example, assuming that index.htm contains 50 links, I would like each
link to point to the same html file, but I want that javascript code in that
html file to execute something different depending on which link was
clicked.
My only other alternative would be to create 50 similar html files which to
me looks like amateur or bad coding.
I have a function that sends some data to a PHP file for processing, and call a page refresh after that, but it's not working. This is what I have so far:
function Reload() {location.reload() ;}
function del(v,m,f){
$.post("system/reject.php", {id: v}) ;
javascript:parent.mainFrame.document.location.reload();
}
The function Reload is something else I tried while trying to get it to work but everything I have done so far doesn't work. :(
I want to run a function only if it has been called from lets say another function, is there an event handler for that? I dont want to call the function on document.ready since it will load without being called?
for example, the below function is run when page loads, how do I just run it only when I call it directly, say from another function..
$(function() {
$( "#progressbar" ).progressbar({ value: 0 });
});
I've come across functions like the one below in many scripts.I just don't understand the purpose of the parameter! Nothing is being passed into the function when it's being called- so what's the point of specifying an argument???
function doSomething(e) {
if (!e) var e = window.event;
alert(e.type);[code].....
I'm trying to run this script on Firefox. I'm copying and pasting the whole thing in here just to be safe, but I'm mostly concerned with getting the findLegendary function to call catchPok(). The script executes fine, goes into the battle, but then...does nothing.It runs the catchPok function if I manually click and deselect the "Find Legendary" window option, so alternately, if somebody knows how to make the program automatically click the element at that point to stop repeating the function (maybe?) and it works, I'd be just as happy with that. My best guess is that the autoContinue function might be interfering somehow, since it runs that portion of the code with the manual findLegendary shutoff, but to be honest I'm pretty clueless.
What I want it to do is run the catch function through, catch the game pixel, and then go back to repeating. I don't care how this is accomplished as long as it can feasibly loop. The game rules allow botting, so this isn't against any site rules, either.

I modified a particular page in the following way:
I ran an init function on window.onload, which iterated thorugh the checkboxes on the page and assigned an event handler function - let's call it validate() to each checkbox.
I tested it in the big 5 browsers and ran into a strange issue in I.E. only -
let's say there are the following checkboxes code...
When I click on "box1" the function is not called. When check "box2" the function is called but by "box1", when I click on "box3" the function is called by "box2" and so forth...
I have an image that I have given an onmouseover event to like so..
Code:
<img id="1" alt="" src="images/image.jpg" onmouseover="highlight()" />
<img id="2" alt="" src="images/image.jpg" onmouseover="highlight()" />
what I would like to know is - within the highlight function what ways are there of getting the id of the image element that called the function? I was thinking I could declaritively pass the id to the function like so - onmouseover="highlight(1)". or would onmouseover="highlight(this.ID)" work? Or is there a better way of getting the id of the calling img element from within the highlight function, I'm thinking that perhaps there is a sender object that I can make use of that I don't know about, if so how do I use it?
