I have a form where a user can upload a file. I do a check to see if it's a zip file. If it isn't then its supposed to stop the file from being uploaded. Only thing is, the file still uploads regardless of getting the error or not.
How can I prevent the form from submitting the file if the error pops up?[code]...
I'm using the jQuery form validation plugin along with the fileinput plugin which hides the initial input area, but uses <divs> and some styling /javascript to show the file input field.The issue I am having, is that the 'this field is required' text that is meant to show on submission, doesn't come up for the file input field, nor some checkboxes that I have in a table. I am guessing that this is because the code is needing the label to be RIGHT next to the element (in this case the file input or the checkbox) in order for the validation message to show..Are there any work arounds that anyone knows of so that I can get the error message to show?Is there a way to show the error message for required fields when they have a div wrapping them or anything wrapping them? [code]
From stepping through the code, when the pound and pence fields on the form are blank, but the name is filled in, it should error at "Please fill in value for pence" but it doesnt? It just submits the form anyway?
I am using the following simple script for validatingmy form:
Code:
When the page is rendered I keep getting a 'Syntax Error'..and it is specific to the validation...but I do not know why. When i remove one of the textboxes from the validation script it works.
I am trying to display validation error messages when form validation fails. Currently it does display the error messages but then disappears straight away. How can I stop the page from refreshing when validation fails? I have return false in my code when validation fails but still having same problem. Currently I have only done the validation for the full name only. The error msg is showed in:
Is there a way by which I can validate in javascript whether the file I'm trying to upload is an existant one(i.e., one which is present in my local folder).
I am using jquery.validate.js for my validation. I need to validate some dynamic input fields. By using class now I am able to validate that. Here my problem is to validate for the file extension.
For static files I use as file: { required:true, accept: "png|jpg", },
How to write the accept validation for dynamically generated input fields. Below is my input field where the ID and name will change for every input field.
I would like to know how to create a function in an external file for validating the fields of a form. If someone could please provide the code, it'll be real helpful. The form is as follows:
I wanted to throw a quick and easy .js function into my comments section to ward off some spamming bots. I have a form in html that contains this table row.
The function I am calling sits in an external .js file. The file itself has a handful of functions but I will post the important bits below.
The form has other fields that validate just fine.
I currently have a form named "survey". I found here a JavaScript to validate my form.
I am having serious issues with this script, either it won't execute at all (the form doesn't work, as well as the validation) or the form submits without validating the form.
I don't know why it's not running the validation js first upon "submit", it goes straight to the "thankyou" page specified by the php (let me know if php needs to be posted). I've check my syntax over and over, I can't see anything.
I'm trying to have a "tell-a-friend" form where one requires to enter his/her first name, surname, email and a friend's email with option of forward to to other 4 friends (total 5).
I have some problems with validating form in javascript.
I have a following HTML code:
What I want in validation is to check all the field in form (check for required fields etc). I want to show user error message in div tag with id='poruka'.
Part of code of function ValidirajFormu:
So, validation works OK, but message is not written in div tag. Only if all fields are correct, form is submited, but there are no error message.
I am putting some validation on some forms at work. The users have asked to put something in place to make sure that if you enter something in on field that you must enter something in the corresponding field.
Example : Lets say there is a Company field and a Position field. Well they would like that if you enter a Company you should enter a Position and the other way where if you enter a Position you just enter a Company.
Ok so thats easy enough I did something like the following.
if((form.Company1.value=="") && !(form.Position1.value=="")){ alert("Enter a Company into the Company field for row 1 or enter N/A"); form.Company1.focus(); return false; }
Well now they want a message box to give the user the option it ignore that they have a blank field, and more or less want a hey just to let you know, you didnt put anything here
I am using a validating form plug in for jquery and I have a question about it. Let this function will be an ex.:
[Code]....
'e' is the name attribute of one form element, but can I choose more elements using jquery (CSS) rules like this: input[name*=e] or how can I do something similar?
I have an issue with a form I am creating, I have many check boxs where at least one of the 2 needs to be selected and the final one has to be selected for the submit button to become active
This is the javascript I have atm to do this:
I cant seem to get this to work, forgetting about the 3rd checkbox for now
I am using this code to validate a form to check that only numbers have been entered but when I enter alphabets the javascript raises an error but still submits the form.
I'm using Firefox with the Firebug add-on and whenever I load my test page with the contact form, I receive this error message in Firebug:
$(form).getElementsByTagName is not a function getElements([])prototype.js (line 1799) initialize("contact_form", Object immediate=true)validation.js (line 88) create()
I've got this to work before on other sites, but for some reason it's not working on this site and I just don't know why and I don't understand what the error is telling me.
I have my website www.gebcn.com. If you view source you will see all that I have done, but more importantly my problem. I have the JS code at the top there and I am unable to W3C validate my HTML because of the JS. I am using XHTML strict and would like to stay using it.
The JS I have at the top is my form validation code. I am able to do any validating that I need with this "snippet" of code, I have shrank it from my library version just to use for this newsletter. Until now W3C validating was not important now for some reason it is and I am faced with this problem.
I am not a Javascript guy more of a HTML/CSS guy and I can manipulate JS to suit my needs.
<problem> I have tried to make this "snippet" of JS code an external file but receive multiple errors with the JS calling for the FORM NAME as it is not on the same page. The form NAME=NEWSLETTER is another problem, as W3C says I am unable to use attribute "NAME" in this location. <problem> I would like to keep the JS close to how it is now as I have a library to use this JS over and over again.
I have written the following code to read contents of a text file using FileReader object of HTML 5 for Google Chrome.
<script> function handle_files(files) { var i; if (checkBrowser("Chrome")) { for (i = 0; i < files.length; i++) { file = files[i]; var reader = new FileReader(); ret = []; reader.onload = function (e) { console.log(e.target.result) }reader.onerror = function (stuff) { console.log("error", stuff) console.log(stuff.getMessage()) }text = reader.readAsText(file[i]); alert(text); }}} </script> <input type="file" multiple="multiple" onchange="handle_files(this.files)">
Unfortunately, the variable text always displays as undefined. Everything above the line text = reader.readAsText(file[0]); works fine. Is there any other solution to read a text file using HTML5/JavaScript on Chrome?
function check_email(mailstring) { valid = "1234567890qwertyuiop[]asdfghjklzxcvbnm.@-_QWERTYUIOPASDFGHJKLZXCVBNM"; for(i=0; i < mailstring.length ;i++)
[Code]....
at the moment its checks that someting has been enetered in all these fields,
what would be the best way to check that the email or phone nummber had been entered?? will not send if nothing enetered, but will send if one or both have been enetered?
I'm using the validation plugin and tries to get the invalid errors to appear like I want to. If the form isn't valid, I would like to change the invalid elements placeholder text to a different color. That's it. I don't want to show any message somewhere. Is this possible? How?
