Find Real Height Of Content In DIV With Relative Z-Index Value?
May 13, 2011
I have a div that is float: left and has a bunch of divs inside it. Those divs inside are all position: relative. They also have z-index values. I want to know the actual height of the outer div's content when I add a div.
Here's the problem:
Code:
<div class="outer">
<div class="something_With_Z_Index_Of_Zero">Something</div>
<div class="something_With_Z_Index_Of_One">Something</div>
</div>
(NOTE: Both inner divs have a height of 20px)
When I ask for either: outerDiv.offsetHeight or outerDiv's computedStyle.height, both give me 40 (or 40px). This is actually not right as the two inner divs are placed one over the other. How would I figure out the proper height?

<body>
<iframe name="j" id="j" src="ANOUNCEMENT.html" onload="this.style.height = j.document.body.scrollHeight + 12"></iframe>

Am I doing it right? I am trying it now but the j.document.body.scrollHeight seems doesn't work for me.

Is there a way to find the browser height with jQuery, not including the toolbars and address bar nor anything else, just the actual space user for displaying the websites..?

I am working on a UI that, when you click on a menu option, a div opens and show three divs inside. These divs all have different
heights. The heights are based on the divs content.The problem I'm having is... how do I measure what the divs height should be? IE, how do I grab the height for a div BEFORE it has had any style applied to it.

I know that I cannot specify the zIndex of a relatively positioned div BUT it does have a zindex computed by the browser. That's why another div can appear below or above it. So, how do I figure out what it's zindex is so I can dynamically put something above it?
Using .currentStyle/getcomputedstyle doesn't work as it returns "auto".

I need to find the position of an element on the page relative to the browser window. Its part of a popup calendar script (and no, they don't want to change it so please don't suggest jQuery date-picker etc) The script uses these functions [url]... to find the position of the anchor to pop up the calendar next to it.
Now the client wants to make the calendar fixed when the user scrolls so that it always stays on screen. The most graceful solution is using css position:fixed (I'm aware it doesn't work in IE6 - that's not a problem)
I've been using the getAnchorWindowPosition function to get the coordinates but the numbers its giving are wrong (to different degrees depending on the browser) It was only 200px out in the Y axis in Firefox but in IE7&8 its off the screen.

I have an array of integersI like to retrieve the max number and index of max number from that array without using Math.Max() function..Presently in this below code, I have 4 dynamic values, end user will be select degree from combo box, entering the values semester, Max marks and Obtained marks as numeric values. Once entered dynamic rows will be created and it also calculate the percentage by the formula (om/mm)*100 for each row on clicking Sum and it also creates new columnŠI needed to have code when the degree changes only.. it should calculate the sum of all max.marks and Obtained marks of each semester and then calculate percentage by above formulaŠ and also new column should not be createdsort with max markswhat is the easiest way...

I have two divs: #div1 and #div2. what I'm trying to do is attach the second div to follow directly to the right of the first div, but I'm doing something wrong with the left property:
$('#div2').hide().insertAfter($('#div1'));
$('#div2').show().css({$('#div1').css('left', 100%)});so to recap, just trying to insert the second div directly to the right of the first one.

I am dynamically adding text boxes within a table and I want to be able to dynamically remove them as well. I have this part of the code figured out.
With each text box that I add, I also add a link in the same row, but different cell that will be a "remove" link. Im having trouble finding the index of that row by clicking on a link.
I can find the index by clicking on the row(tr) but I can't seem to figure out how to find the index by clicking on the link inside of the row.
Here is my code:
Creates the link dynamically in the 4th cell:
Code:
Remove Row Code:
Code:
Find Row Index Code:
Code:
I beleive the problem is in the rows[i].onlick part, since I'm not techinically clicking on a row, Im clicking on the link. I have tried changing the rows variable to:
Code:
But that doesn't work.

Given the following HTML:
<ul>
<li class="">1</li>
<li>2</li>
<li>3</li>
[Code].....
Unfortunately that doesn't work. I understand that the index() isdocumentation (though confusing) correctly tells you that the above code doesn't work. Maybe I'm just weird, but I feel that the way .index() is implemented for string arguments is very counter intuitive. I have an expectation that .index() is similar to indexOf() in javascript.

I'm using JQuery to write content into an otherwise empty iframe like so:
Code:
$('#ifrmID').contents.find('html').html(htmlContent);
The content is coming from an Ajax request. The content gets used more than once on the page for other purposes which is why I don't simply change the iframe src--I have to do an ajax request regardless so I'm trying to avoid multiple calls.
After I load the content, I need modify the height of the iframe so it fits snuggly around the content.
Calculating the height isn't a problem with the exception that it's not always correct and I think it's because the calculation is happening before images have downloaded.
I don't seem to be able to rely on a `load` or `ready` event to delay the calculation. The load event is the only one that tiggers on a change of iframe content, but it doesn't see the new content.
Code:
$('iframe').each(function () {
$(this).load(function () {
alert($(this).contents().find('html').html());
});
});
This will output '<html><body></body></html>' even though I have successfully inserted different content.
Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong, or if it's possible to do what I want reliably?
Note that a general JS solution will be appreciated as much as a JQuery one.

How can I find the height and width of a webpage? Say I want to make
sure someone's webpage is within an 800X600 viewing area. Width is the
most important but if I can get width, I should also be able to get
height.
I don't need to modify the page in anyway. Just get the width and
height. I can reference the page in an iframe, cfhttp (CFMX) or
something if it needs to be on my server.

Does anyone know any js code to find the whole height of a web page?
i am trying to make an image that moves from the top of the page to the bottom like a marqee. if i use document.body.offsetHeight to tell the image how far to move before returning to the top, the image only goes as far as the window height not the whole page so if you scroll down the image never reaches the bottom.
can anyone please tell me code to find the total page height or a good substitute for the marquee tag?
P.S. this is the code i'm using to act on an image placed at the top of the page with the variable winH found using document.body.offsetHeight:
var Timer1;
function down()
{
document.getElementById("zip").style.pixelTop += 2;
if (document.getElementById("zip").style.pixelTop > winH)
{
clearInterval(Timer1);
document.getElementById("zip").style.pixelTop -= (winH);
Timer1 = setInterval("down()", 15);
}
}

I have an image that I set to have a width of 100%. I want it to be no higher than the screen height. Its inside a div which itself has no height limit set. So I thought I could set the image height to screen.height. But when I do that, it seems to be larger than the visible client area of Internet Explorer. I want it to fit within that space. I realize the image might be distorted by doing that, but thats OK.

I have a file that generates web galleries in Adobe Lightroom. They are generated depending on which files are selected and the metadata in those files.
Basically it is a series of pages of thumbnails called index.html index_1.html index_2.html etc.
Then a set of pages for each individual image.
An example can be seen here: [url](the page navigation links are not great, but I have addressed that, they're at the bottom >> )
Currently if a user clicks on a photo there is a 'return to thumbnails button at the top, but this always takes them to /index.html
So the user could be at a picture after browsing to /index_39.html and still get returned to /index
Is there any way I can use history.go to find the last instance of index.html Or index_x.html (where x is any number) and take them back to that instead?

I generate in a js variable some code of tthis kind:
z = '<div id="d1"><div id="d2"><div id="d3"></div><span id="s1"></span></div></div>'
then i write: document.write(z)
obj = document.getElementById('d3')
obj.innerHTML = "some long html content having tags like <h1></h1><h2></h2>"
Then I want to get the height of my 'd3' div. I use obj.offsetHeight with Firefox and it does work, but it Does Not with Internet Explorer. I looked at so many forums and they all say that offsetHeight do find the height, but it's not working in my case. Any ideas why?
