Dynamically Changing Table Style?

Mar 23, 2010

I am building a schedule web page and before I just had it use plain static HTML and CSS to control the styling. I wrote some javascript that goes through the table's rows, then cells (double for loop), and if the cells innerHTML == "" then the style class is changed. I do have some working code, however it only works in IE. Here's a copy of the script:

<script type="text/javascript">
for (var i = 0; i < document.getElementById('table').rows.length; i ++)
for (var j = 0; j < document.getElementById('table').rows(i).cells.length; j ++)
if (document.getElementById('table').rows(i).cells(j).innerHTML == "")

JQuery :: Dynamically Changing Div Style?

Nov 16, 2010

i'm new to jquery and am not real familiar with javascript. I have a color picker on my page that puts the hex value in an input box. I'm not familiar with jquery or javascript in general. I would like to be able to take the hex value and use it in updating a style of a div onkeyup or onchange...say the border color for example. Something like this...but this isn't working.

<input type="text" id="colorfield1" onFocus="ddcolorposter.echocolor(this, 'colorbox1')"> <div id="colorbox1" class="colorbox"></div>

Dynamically Change Row Colour On Dynamically Generated Table Rows

Nov 25, 2005

At this point I have been able to add the row. But what I want to do and am having trouble with is alternating the row colour to the dynamically added row element.

Sample of code I am using:

Code:
var tbody = document.getElementById('tableItems');

var row = document.createElement("tr");

var remainder = tbody.rows.length % 2;
if(remainder) {
row.setAttribute("class", "rowLightGreen");
}

var td1 = document.createElement("td");
td1.appendChild(document.createTextNode(qty));
td1.setAttribute("class","qty");
row.appendChild(td1);
tbody.appendChild(row);
One thing that puzzles me, is that even after adding a row the table my table.rows.length still = 0.

Does anyone know how I can determine the appropriate amount of rows so that I can apply the appropriate class?

Or is there just something blatantly wrong in my approach?

Changing CSS Style Onmouseover?

Feb 12, 2009

So I didn't think this would be very hard, but I keep running into problems.

I have:

function changeCSS(idName, newClass) {
document.getElementById(idName).className=newClass;
}

And then:

<p id="Link1" onmouseover="changeCSS(Link1, '#profileNav .hoverNav');" onmouseout="changeCSS(Link1, '#profileNav p');">Link1</p>

I get the error "Link1 is not defined" though.

Anyone know why this is happening? Or a different way to achieve my main goal which is to change Link1's css class.

Dynamically Add Another Table Once Text Fields In The Existing Table Is Clicked On?

May 26, 2010

how I would dynamically add another table once text fields in the existing table is clicked on. So pretty much what I have is a table with 5 textboxes lined up horizontally in the first row along with couple of buttons in the second row. What I want is that once one text box is clicked, another table like the one above is created and appears below that initial table. So this is the inital table that should be replicated on each click:

<table>
<tr>
<td><input type="text" /></td>
<td><input type="text" /></td>
<td><input type="text" /></td>
<td><input type="text" /></td>
<td><input type="text" ></td>

Dynamically Changing A DIV

Feb 27, 2007

I have a few radio boxes where a user can choose different options and
I want to show an explanation of each option after it's clicked.
Here's what I have:

<script type="text/JavaScript">

function toggle(o){
o.className = ( o.className == "show" ) ? "hide" : "show";
}

'function describetype(){
' if (window.event.srcElement.value == "starter")
typedesc.innerHTML="A Starter request is for a new employee who's
never worked for cadbury or the Bottling Group before.";
' if (window.event.srcElement.value == "leaver")
typedesc.innerHTML="A Leaver request is for an existing employee who's
permanently leaving the company.";
'}

'function starter(){
'typedesc.innerHTML="A Starter request is for a new employee who's
never worked for cadbury or the Bottling Group before.";
'}

'function leaver(){
'typedesc.innerHTML="A Leaver request is for an existing employee
who's permanently leaving the company.";
'}

function describetype(o){
if (o == "starter"){
typedesc.innerHTML="Starters are...etc.";
}
if (o == "leaver"){
typedesc.innerHTML="Leavers are...etc.";
}
}

</script>

The first "toggle" function works fine but the "describetype" won't
work. Here's the HTML:

....
<td class="layout bold">
<input type="radio" name="reqtype" value="starter"
checked="checked" onclick="describetype(starter)"Starter<br>
<input type="radio" name="reqtype" value="leaver"
onclick="describetype(leaver)"Leaver<br />
</td>
<td class="layout bold">
<input type="radio" name="reqtype" value="mover"Mover<br />
<input type="radio" name="reqtype" value="adhoc"Ad Hoc
</td>
....

The error keeps saying that "starter" or "leaver" is undefined. I'm
not much of a javascript guy (mostly the cut and paste variety myself)
but everything I've seen says this should work. No?

Use Js To Assign Style Values To Table Cells?

Feb 2, 2011

I'm Stephen Martin, an undergraduate Psychology student and researcher. Although I am a self-proclaimed tech geek, the extent of my knowledge ends abruptly at any sort of coding. The paradigm: I am currently investigating the decision making strategies in a particular population (I cannot reveal too much, lest our study be scooped by competing researchers in the field). The paradigm that we use is built through a package called MouseLabWeb [URL]. MLWeb basically provides an interface for researchers to create a html/php/js/css website that presents a grid (table). A small example is shown on the aforementioned website. The javascript functions allow each participant's events to be recorded, timestamped, and written to a MySQL database. This allows the researcher to know which cells the participant viewed, in what order, for how long, and ultimately to which decision the participant came.

Additionally, the PHP/HTML creates the table, but the data within it is populated by the javascript. This is a blessing and a curse. Here is why. The problem: The javascript offered by MLWeb allows the cells to be randomized. This is necessary, because in such paradigms, counter-balancing is required, otherwise there would be order effects (e.g., people tend to automatically read from the upper left) that are not controlled for. So the order of the columns and rows are randomized, the data which is then placed into the html/php table.

For the current study, we want the cells corresponding to particular types of information to be shaded differently. For example, we'd want cells that contain bad information to be dark, cells that contain neutral info to be grey, and cells that contain good information to be white. The problem is that setting these values (style="background-color: #XXXXX) only applies to the table as created by the PHP. It only affects the position, and does not consider the information that it is filled with.

Setting Table Cell Style Attributes

given a cell from a table...
function Tbl_GetCell(tbl, row, col)
{
var theRow = tbl.getElementsByTagName("tr")[row];
return theRow.getElementsByTagName("td")[col];
}

I can set attributes like width, height, and align, but how can I set cell style info?

cell = GetCell(tbl,row,col)
these work fine... cell.align = "center"; cell.height = 22;
but this doesn't... cell.style = "font-weight: bold; text-decoration: blink"
