Dynamically Switch The Fixed Height Of A Parent Div Between Two

Feb 3, 2011

I am calling this javascript function:

Inside a nested div so that when a hyperlink is clicked it will show one element and hide the other like this snippet:

The functions works perfectly to expand one div element at a time inside the larger div container. The problem is that when I expand either of the elements by clicking the hyperlink...The larger div container(red gradient square) pushes everything past the background (solid grey square) and screws up the look of the entire page because the div, (which is a few levels up), containing the background is a fixed width, (as a percentage width would not work). I know the exact two widths the background would need to expand to dynamically as a result of the hyperlink being click by a user, but I do not have any idea how to do this from within the aforementioned javascript function I posted. Does anyone have any idea or help for me? It is very confusing as the div I need to resize is a full 3 levels outside of the function call I am working with. As an example the function call is happening in the last div of this flow:

And results in either a div#First or div#Second being generated inside the div#bio. I need to resize the div#greySquareH height property.

Btw the url to the page I am working on is Here. If you want to see any of the other code in the page it is there or I can upload it including the css if I haven't given enough info what I'm working on.

Dynamic Height In A Sliding Div?

I have a function for a sliding div, you input the height you want it, and it performs lovely. Problem is, i don't know what height the div is going to be (its a help system contents so its ever changing) so i set out to get the height, but this is where i run into trouble, i can't seem to set the height in the function SlideUp or SlideDown, so i decided to set the height as a global variable (outside the functions) but it seems it can't as it doesn't know the height as the HTML has not initialized yet.

Dynamic Height Of Element

Mar 9, 2006

On the right site there is a box with a vertical scrollbar. It´s a DIV (id="right") with an iframe in it. Maybe I´ll put a DIV with overflow:auto in it but it doesn´t matter now.

The customer wants that this 'scrollbox' takes all available vertical space. That means it should start right under the header and end above the footer.
But when there is much content and the user scrolls down the page the scrollbox has to stick under the top edge of the viewport.

Does anybody know how to realise this?

I think I can use JavaScript to get the y-position of the scrollbox and then change margin-top of the iframe or padding-bottom of DIV id="right" or whatever. Code:

Dynamic IFrame Height, Not Working In Ie Without Refresh?

Mar 3, 2007

When i try to dynamically change the height of an iframe in ie through a java-script to match its content (a html page containing a flash movie, it doesn't resize the iframe at first, but when i reload the same page into the iFrame it resizes as planned, how come?This script works well in firefox, safari and netscape, but i cant get it to work in ie(8, 7). And i get the same problems with every resizing script i've tried. This is the script i use:

<script type="text/javascript">
function adjustIFrameSize(iframe)
{ [code].....

I have a flash menu in the first iframe, the buttons on the menu uses getURL(siteToLoad, "contents") to load another html-page into the iframe "contents". Is it possible to make the iFrame refresh automatically though javascript so that i just refreshes the iframe once? Everytime ive tried that it just ends up in a never ending refresh-loop... How can i make this work? Is there any better script for resizing (and refreshing after resize) the iframe height so that it matches to its content?

Dynamic Iframe Height With External Domain Src?

Mar 5, 2009

I am trying to get an iframe to have dynamic height - I want it to resize to fit the contents of the page.There is a four or five step process within the iframe. So for example, page 1 is rather short, and it'll have a link that sends you to page 2, which might be rather long.I have no control over the pages I am using in the iframe and they are on another domain.I have googled and and searched the forum and I've yet to find anything that works. A lot of them say they're not cross-browser compatible, but I haven't gotten anything to work how I'd like in any browser.I'd like to do it without jQuery.

Dynamic Resizing Of Iframes Based On Content Height

Jul 23, 2005

Does anyone know of how I could dynamically resize an iframe based on
the content's height (for IE) so that no scrollbar appears for the iframe?
The content will be from a different domain. I have searched on the web and
have seen solution like this

<script>
function resize() {
var oframe = document.getElementById("frameID");

//***
//var odoc = oframe.document; //(1)
var odoc = oframe.Document; //(2)

var obody = odoc.body;

oframe.height = obody.scrollHeight;
}
</script>

The html :
<iframe onload="resize()" src=http://different.comain.content border="0"
....... > </iframe>

I have seen 2 solutions on the web, the only difference being lines (1) and
(2) get substitued.
My browser is version IE 6.

It seems that the solution with line (2) works perfectly when the content is
from the same domain but gets a Permission Error if the domain is different.

When the content is from a different domain solution (1) does not give
Permission error, but instead the scrollHeight is significantly smaller
than the actual content. Even if the content is from the same domain it
still gives the wrong size.

So my question is
1) What is the difference between oframe.document and oframe.Document, why
does it give different results?

2) More importantly, how can I dynamically adjust the iframe size based on
the content height from a different domain?

Dynamic IFrame Height - Use The ScrollHeight Of The Frame But It Isn't Working?

function resizeIframe (frame) {[code]....

Basically my code always renders the scrollHeight at 150 but the test.html I'm pulling into the frame I've made a height of 500px ?

Dynamic Layer Height For Overflow: Auto Scroll?

Aug 1, 2011

In order to make my site scalable (down to 1024x768), I need four layers to vertically scroll so that their contents doesn't force the main page to scroll. However, on higher resolutions, there'll be more space below the layers which means I don't necessarily want the layers to scroll if there's enough space to fit the text in.

I've tried CSS - I had to specify a height of 250px (the most I can use before main-page-scrolling takes effect in 1024x768) and set overflow: auto. The problem with this is that this is static formatting - no matter what resolution I use, the layers are always going to scroll because the height has been set to 250px.

So I was wondering if there's a way, either a CSS property/function (or maybe this can only be done in java script) - to make the layers scroll only if there's a risk of the main page scrolling?Or do I need to attack this with a crowbar and have a separate style sheet for every single resolution where I specify the height of the layers for each one?

JQuery :: Dynamic Height / Width Sometime Broken On Page Load?

Aug 28, 2009

I've written a small plugin to serve as a feature rotator and am having one strange problem.You can see some demos of the plugin and documentation here:

http://pbskids.org/pbskidswidgets/carousel.html.The plugin does a number of things that involve reading the width and height of DOM elements and using them to set the width and height of other elements. The problem is that sometimes in Firefox and Safari, when the page loads, the widths and heights of panels in the carousel are fracked.

Reload the page and the problem's fixed. In Safari, I can't get it to happen again on many reloads. In Firefox, though, if I reload repeatedly, I can get the problem to happen again: maybe once every seven or eight times.It looks like something's happening with page loading, but I'm at a loss to diagnose it further: is the script firing before the elements have fully loaded sometimes, and then works on subsequent tries because those elements are in the cache? Also: I've never seen this error in any of the IE versions.

In case that he hit submit button I would like to display him a message that would inform him that he didn't enter minimum requested characters.

It would be neat if I could have the character counter below of each text area which should be decreased with each entered character.

I am using window.showModalDialog() to open a modal dialog window. I would like to set a minimum size for the window (width & height).

I set the following:

<body onresize="pageResize()">

In a javascript file I have:

Code:
function pageResize() {
var windowWidth = document.body.clientWidth;
var windowHeight = document.body.clientHeight;

if (windowWidth < 100) {
document.body.clientWidth = 100;

if (windowHeight < 100) {
document.body.clientHeight = 100;

I get an error saying: "Object doesn't support this action" for line settings:

Code:

document.body.clientWidth = 100;

Is there another way of doing that?

Load Page Into Another Page With Dynamic Height?

May 1, 2010

I have a question about loading an external .html page into another page.Presumably, I need to accomplish this by using iframes, right? I have a lot of files (around 1000 files) that I need to load into the same iframe. It's only a part of the total page I need to load and to create over 1000 pages instead of using an iframe (or another way to load a page into a page, which I don't know yet?) is much more work than using the frames.

Anyway, that for background. Now to the reason why I need dynamic height. Some of the pages are like 500 px in height, while the other half of my pages have a height of around 1500px (though the height of 80% of the pages vary per page! but approximately these heights as an example).If I'm viewing a small page with a predetermined set of height of 1500px, I'll be viewing a lot of blank space. Which is why I need to get around the fixed height, so the solution is a dynamic height. Another reason why I need a dynamic height, is because I have a 'back' button function which will lead you to the previous visited page when clicked. So if you were viewing a small page, then clicked a link to view a large page.... and then click on the back button at the bottom of the large page... You'll be taken back to the small page, but viewing it from the same point as you were on the large page, so you'll be actually viewing the huge blank space.

So... I've searched the web endlessly for a script to let me predetermine the height of the loaded pages, but none of them actually give me what I want.I need the script to work in at least the three main browsers (IE, FF and Chrone) at the same time. I've only found scripts that'll only work for IE, or only for Chrome and a lot of scripts that don't even work at all. I could give you some of the codings I've found, but they still don't work well enough. Also, some of those will lead me to the top of the page when you click a link. Since there's a lot more on the main page, I either need it to stay at the same position as the previous page visited, or at the top of the iframe, not the top of the parent page.I've been searching endlessly on the web and I cannot find something that works good enough. It doesn't have to be a frame, but so far, that's only way I've found to load a page into another page.
