I am trying to create a web page in which the contents of one selection list depends upon which element in another selection list is chosen, but where the information to populate the first selection list comves from an SQL database on the web server.
There are a couple of these situations in my application but, for example, the first list might be a list of counties, and the second list a list of states/provinces. Obviously the names of counties depend upon which state/province is chosen, but there are too many possibilities to be able to embed them within the web page itself. So when the user selects a state/province I need to go to the server to ask for the list of counties.
I have seen a number of posts that sort of address this issue. For example it is suggested to use <script src="a URL"/> to ask the server side code to send up data of type "text/javascript". However the examples do not seem to address how the server side code would know which state/province the user had selected.
If there is a web site that addresses this sort of thing, I would appreciate any pointers.
I have a form that I am using for several different pages as they are exactly the same... however at the top you must make a choice from the drop down box that then shows the appropriate fields to fill in. Can I make the drop down default to a certain option depending on which page they are coming from?
i have a dropdown list where a user can select, 'Yes','No', and 'Other'. What i need to have happen, is that if a user selects other, i need a textfield to appear so the user can enter a custom variable. does anyone have code for this?? Code:
I am executing a simple example of selecting the item from the dropdown list by using the value of a textbox. The idea is: If I have a dropdown list, suppose with values red, blue, green, yellow and so on. And a simple html textbox. Now suppose if I type red into the textbox then leave the textbox then automatically the dropdown list value should be selected to red value if it contains red value item.
I have have some values stored in javascript variables. I have a <select> dropdown list whose options correspond to these values. I want to be able to select an item on the dropdown list based on the value of the javascript variable.
I've been beating my head against a wall for a few days trying to get this working. I'm trying to create a dynamic menu where a user selects one item and another select list is shown, then another and another (and so on). Here is my JS, it *should* be taking the ID of the div, comparing it to the selected value and then showing another div by settings it's class property to visible:
I want to write a select control and use a Javascript function to handle all click events on the control. Under certain circumstances I also wish to prevent the dropdown's list from being rendered.
Here is a sample showing what I am _unsuccessfully_ trying to do.
How I populate fields of a form with the data that relates to an item from a list box that user selects Example: List box contains item1, item2, item3 User selects item2 so want data connected to item2 displayed so it can be edited and updated.
Open SELECT dropdown list automatically. I want to simulate a user click or ctrl + up/down on a select drop down list. I tried various ways using create event object and click on the list but list does not drop down.
cna anyone tell me how to use the Select = "selected" option for a simple dropdown. for example when someone chooses c it will have a code like <option selected="">c</option> (am I doing it right, well if you got a firebug some site with dropdowns offers that option) so can anyone tell me how that works. I will be using it for a purpose of just selecting parts on my array, well incorporating it
I need to know when the select element's dropdown list is opened (as when the user clicks on the arrow or does ALT-downarrow from the keyboard). Similarly, I need to known when the dropdown list closes.
The closing of the dropdown list can happen without changing the dropdown, hence the onchange event is not a sure way to determine that the dropdown list closed.
How do we use javascript to only allow selection from the list in question 3 to be made IF the user selected at least 1 check box in question 2? Below is my code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "[URL]"> <html xmlns="[URL]" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head><title> Example </title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Script-Type" content="text/javascript" /> </head><body><form name="Form"><h1>Survey </h1> <p> Please take a minute to fill in the form below. </p><ol> <li> Question 1.</li> <li> Q2.Which classes have you attended? <br /> <input type="checkbox" name="attend" id="aerobics" value="aerobics"/> <label for="aerobics">Aerobics</label> <br /> <input type="checkbox" name="attend" id="boxing" value="boxing"/> <label for="boxing">Boxing</label> <br /> <input type="checkbox" name="attend" id="circuit" value="circuit"/> <label for="circuit">Circuit Class</label> <br /> <input type="checkbox" name="attend" id="weight" value="weight"/> <label for="weight">Weight Training</label> </li> <li> Q3. Which of the above classes has been beneficial for you? (choose one from the list): <select class="drop" name="dropdown"> <option value="aerobics">Aerobics</option> <option value="boxing">Boxing</option> </select></li></ol></form></body></html>
i am trying to make a music player where you select a song from a drop down list and then click submit. it then brings up the audio controls with the HTML5 "<audio>" tags and then you can click play and it should work. i am having trouble actually doing this though. the html is
iam trying to use 5 drop downs in my form for user to select languages and each select drop down should not allow the user to select the same language again and all my drop downs are populating individually from the DB on the page so if "English" is selected for "dropdown 1" then again "drop down 2" should not allow "English" to be selected.
I wanted to create a small DHTML code that created a unordered list of input forms dependent on the number selected from the select dropdown menu. Problem is that it doesn't seem to want to generate the list. I think the variables are within the scope of the function too, and I didn't get an errors from the javascript console when using firebug. The script itself runs, I tested it when I used the old standby alert(); to see if the script was active. Here's the code:
I am trying to make a form where the user is only able to select an option from one of the drop down menus and if they click both then submit an error should pop up telling them to select just one. Now I have found this code:
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"'> <!-- function validateForm(){[code]....
the first problem is that my menu must be named "id[2]2" which causes a problem due to the bracketed 2 and the 2 after. Is there any way around that?the second problem I forsee is that this will only work with 1 drop down box being unselected. I need a code that will give the warning if nothing is selected OR if something is selected in both drop downs.
I'm trying to create a form where the user enters data in a field and is redirected to a URL based on that entry - example: user enters 1234 and he is directed to mypage.com/1234/index.htm - if that folder does not exist it would give a 'try again' error.
With changeYear: true, yearRange: '-10:+1', and numberOfMonths: 1, the year dropdown shows 2000-2011, as expected. With every other numberOfMonths I tried, it shows only 2010. Is there some dependency I don't know about between these settings that means something has to be done differently?
I have created this form. I would like to use javascript to mail the form to the selected email from the selection list when the submit button is pressed.
<form name="Contact Us" id="contact" action="mailto:" method="post"> <fieldset id="selection"> Who would you like to email: <select> <option value="email1" >email1</option> <option value="email2" >email2</option> <option value="email3">email3</option> </select> <fieldset id="Name" > Name <input type="text" id="firstname" name="firstname"> E-mail <input type="text" id="email" name="email"> </fieldset> <fieldset id="question"> Comments and Questions <input type="text" id="comment" name="comment" style="width: 500; height: 300"> </fieldset> </form>
In a registration form middleName field is optional. When the users enters his/her middleName, then it should validate that field. I have used the following code to achieve the above scenario, but it is not working.
$("#middleName").rules("add", {checkName: true, required: false, messages: {checkName: "Please enter a valid middle name"} }); jQuery.validator.addMethod("checkName", function(value, element) { var regExp = new RegExp(/^[a-zA-Z0-9s|,|.|-|']+$/); return regExp.test(value); }, "Please enter a valid name." ); How to achieve the above scenario.
I need to make sure the zip code the user enters matches up with 1 of 50 acceptable zip codes - so if they enter nothing at all or enter a zip code that does not match up with one of the 50 acceptable zip codes they get an error. I know I need some kind of conditional statement like: if (#zipcode != "12345 || 23456 || 45678 || 12365") .. do something...
I have an ASP page that displays, along with other data, a list of items that refer to a specific element in a database. Instead of adding an Add button, I would like to display a text box below the last item in the list to have the user input any new data. Once they enter the data and hit Enter, the data they enter should then be added to the list and another text box added beneath this item (just as forms and tables in Access do). However, I'm not sure how to implement this functionality.
