I have several buttons within a table, i have made these buttons output information to the webpage upon being clicked. all of this works, but i can't seem to get the ouput to show up in a specific part of the table. is there anything i can do to target this area and have the output show up where i want it, as opposed to the bottom of the page?

(i.e. post) XML to a server. I can see the content of the XML response via javascript alert(xmlhttp.responseText). Is there a way to display the content of xmlhttp.responseText on a new page?

I have a feeling I'm using the DOM wrong,
I am working in Dreamweaver CS4 with both HTML and Javascript. I created a preview area and some thumbnails beneath. Each thumbnail is linked to a full size image. So far, so good. I'm attempting to follow a Javascript tutorial to make a lightbox. I added CSS rules and the javascript code in the hopes of having my thumbnail show the image in the clickable preview area when hovering. However, my fullsize image does not display in the preview area. Interestingly, when I hover over the preview, I see at the bottom of my browser that it is still linked, just not displaying. The preview area is blank.

I want to execute some code when a node is either selected or deselected but I only want specific nodes not the whole tree.
Normally, I think you bind an event when you create the tree like $ ('.sidecontent').bind(........).jstree(data.tree); but that's for the whole tree, which I don't want. I have a selector for the nodes I want like $('a[id*="room_1"]') but I don't know how to bind an event to those nodes only. Is this possible? If it is, then what event should I use?
I've managed to output the text of my two arrays to a specific div (in this case the div's id is ''number') - BUT I'm only seeing the last data from each array (it's a train number and a train name) so instead of getting the entire list from 800 to 870 and the associated names I'm just getting the last pairing which in his case is 870 Zulu.

That said, I sometimes need to disable the ability to click on some areas. For instance areas whose id attribute contains 0 0. I have the code to split the id and grab whether the values are 0 or 1 and the alert pops up when one has 0 0 in the id but it's still clickable. I thought .unbind would do the trick, but it isn't. The alert is simply for testing.

Basically what I need to do is cause a bit of HTML to only display on a specific page. I have figured out how to do most of the work i.e. figuring out what page that the code is being displayed on, etc. However, for some reason the DOM element that I am using will not update based on the Javascript.

I need to build a slider. which is not there in the page when it loads. then after few seconds it appears and slides from the right hand side of the window and stops at some position on the screen. then after few seconds it changes its image into another one. each and every one of the images has a different displaying time. that time is a database data and i have to specify it accordingly... I'm using jsTree-0.9.9a. As a test this is the code i'm using to display the ID

This works fine when the parent has no child nodes, however, when a child node exists nothing is returned.
As of right now I have a code that will work in IE but wont work in FireFox...go figure. Basically what I want to have happen is when you type in an area code it will provide an output in a predetermined area of the page.
For Example:

Output - Austin, TX
The code that I have doesn't work with firefox and I was just wondering if there was a code that would allow that to happen.

What is happening is $(this) is no longer based on .expand being the (this) that is clicked.
like if i have a button SOMEWHERE randomly on the page with this
<div onclick="Minimize('_alerts');">Click Here</div> this will minimize alerts but because the (this) in minimize function doesn't actually point to the right button that I want to add a class to.
Is there a way to modify the minimize function so that it finds the <div id="mytoggle"><ul> <li class="expand boxminimize" rel="_alerts"> using the rel toggle, and then changes the class of the li from expand boxminimize to boxexpanded??
just like the .expand click function I posted on the top of the post that works?
Another thing that has been driving me crazy is that css positioning is handled differently by different browsers. JS is not my area, but I can do a lot with CSS, and I do, but cross browser compatibility is killing me.
I can use an IF IE statement and only IE runs that segment of code, but I haven't been able to figure out out how to make ONLY firefox or ONLY opera or safari enact an encapsulated segment of code. The same type of IF statement doesn't work for them.
Is there a single method using JS that works for all browsers?

1. When I have the "<textarea>" code lines in it put a text-area on the page, but it puts all of the code following that first text-area line into the text-area box and doesn't execute that segment of code.
2. When there is no "<textarea>" (for the sake of seeing if the rest of it worked) it doesn't check the survey.
