It works great, however I'll be using this code with a school's website's template. The problem is that the "overlay" div tags would be placed within the container div tags of the template,therefore confining to these dimensions. How can I modify my code to have my div tags not affected by the templates div tags... and have the overlay be center in the browser..

I would like to add a feature to one of my sites which takes a URL and displays the webpage with certain information overlayed on top of it. I figure I can retrieve the webpage and display its HTML in an iframe (local) with an added BASE HREF tag so that the page displays correctly, while its contents are accessible through JavaScript since it's on my domain.
Here's where I was wondering if anyone could give me a pointer before I start searching for hours... how do I get a list of all links inside this iframe and their positions so I can create new elements and place them there (like a small info icon next to each link to click to show the overlayed info). Links could be text or images. I'm not really sure how I'd find the locations then place new elements at those locations.

I am trying to launching a centered browser window via a form-button using the following code...
<button type='button'
onClick="window.open('myURL','testwin','width=400, height=400, left=(screen.availWidth-400)/2, top=(screen.availHeight-400)/2'); return false">
Test button</button>
The new browser appears the correct height and width, but the left and top clauses are ignored.Am I being too ambitious trying to make this code in-line? Is there any other syntax I should use or should I give-up and call a function instead (I would rather not if I can avoid it)?I am using Firefox 3.0.17 (latest), but the same effect happens in IE7.

I am implementing a pop up window and need it to be centered. Found this code (below) seems to work good. I need to open it with an image rather than text link.
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
function popup(url){
var width = 300;
var height = 200;
var left = (screen.width - width)/2;
var top = (screen.height - height)/2;
var params = 'width='+width+', height='+height;
params + = ', top='+top+', left='+left;
params + = ', directories=no';
params + = ', location=no';
params + = ', menubar=no';
params + = ', resizable=no';
params + = ', scrollbars=no';
params + = ', status=no';
params + = ', toolbar=no';
newwin=window.open(url,'windowname5', params);
if (window.focus) {newwin.focus()}
return false;
} // -->
</script>
<a href="javascript: void(0)"onclick="popup('popup.html')">Centered popup window</a>

I used google maps to get the embed code for a google map which I am displaying on a sit I am building. The problem is that when you view it embedded on my page, the location on the map is way off to the upper left corner and barely visible in the google maps iframe. How can I get the google map to load centered on the address? To see what I mean go to [URL] and click the "show map" button for the Troy Location (the first block on the left) to reveal the map. How to get the google map to center??

I have a div popup on my test site and i'm having trouble centering it. For some reason (which probably has everything to do with the code) the pop up shows in the middle of the page, as opposed to the middle of the screen. Forcing people to scroll down to see it. You can check it out here: Test page. Is there any way I can code it to where it always shows in a visible
position?
Here's my javascript code:
function toggle(div_id) {
var el = document.getElementById(div_id);
if ( el.style.display == 'none' ) { el.style.display = 'block';}
else {el.style.display = 'none';}
} function blanket_size(popUpDivVar) {
if (typeof window.innerWidth != 'undefined') {
viewportheight = window.innerHeight;
} else {
viewportheight = document.documentElement.clientHeight; .....
And here's the html:
Code:
<div id="blanket" style="display:none;"></div>
<div id="popUpDiv" style="display:none;">
<a href="#" onclick="popup('popUpDiv')">Click Me To Close</a>
test
</div>
<a href="#" onclick="popup('popUpDiv')">Click Here To Open The Pop Up</a>

My code that centers html elements fails when the html element is large. For example, I have a list of 443 items, which I break into 3 columns within a div. Therefore there are 148 lines in the div. When I use the code below to center the div, the top part of the div is beyond the top of the window screen.
function centerPopup(){
// Get data for centering
var windowWidth = document.documentElement.clientWidth;
var windowHeight = document.documentElement.clientHeight;
var popupHeight = $(".popupArea").height();
var popupWidth = $(".popupArea").width();
//centering
$(".popupArea").css({ "position": "absolute", "top": Math.floor(windowHeight/2)-Math.floor(popupHeight/2), "left": Math.floor(windowWidth/2)-Math.floor(popupWidth/2) });
//only need force for IE6
$(".popupBackground").css({ "height": windowHeight });
}

i've been wrestling with this issue for the last hour. I can't seem to get thiscentreddiv to animate properly.What it currently does:A small div, (10x2px) expands to full 100% width and 100% height. However, it expands in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
What I am trying to get it to do: To expand equally in all four directions.
Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

I have a div wrapped around spans, and each span containing nothing but text (client testimonials)... I'm trying to get the spans to cycle through and it works wonders, except the Cycle plugin causes my spans not to be centered within the div.So I looked through the plugin source and noticed:
$slides.css({position: 'absolute', top:0, left:0}).hide()
I figured the absolute positioning was my problem and changed left:0 to left:50%and although it centers, the slide is broken and all my spansappear at once.

I have several pages that work as expected - a bottom_menu.js script writes some links to the document, and thte results are centered. Then I had to mod a page because I had only 11 items rather than 12. Now the bottom_menu.js script results ends up left justified. How to make the results be centered.

What I want to do is, when someone clicks a link the image pops up on screen in its own nice window smack down in the middle of the screen over top of the website. I want it to look neat tho, best example I can find is @ curse.com. [URL]. If you click that link and scroll down to the screen shot section and click on one of the images you can see how nice and professional it looks. How can I accomplish this?

I am using Fancybox plugin and works well but for an ajax call the first few calls the popup/modal appears at the bottom of the window but later corrects itself and then is centered.
Here is an example:

Click on the 'Foliage', 'Base' or 'Trunk' boxes in the right side column.
Anyone seen this before and know a fix?

I have a site that I'm building at [URL] which use the jquery cycle plugin for a slideshow. I won't post the code here because it's all there with view source at the above address. It's a work in progress. The slideshow is full width (the images in it are actually 2000px wide but looks full width), and works fine apart from when the browser window is resized. This is most noticable when you start with a smaller browser window and then resize it to be bigger.
The slides stay the same width as when the page loaded - I need them to adapt to the new width. I need the slideshow to be centered at all widths, so I've put the images in as backgrounds to divs with center positioning on them. I've tried getting the window width on resize and then applying it to the slides using jQuery, but the original calculated size overrides it when the slide changes.

I have a script that brings up an overlay box onclick that needs to be on top of everything else on page, however I can't get it to show on top of the navigation tabs. I tried calling the overlay script at the very beginning of the head section as well as tried to call it at the end but it doesn't seem to matter.
Is there something I can add to the script to force it on top of every other object on the page?

I have an overlay that is implemented using Malsup BlockUI, with a "close" button, however it won't close! - here's the details... I have a DIV that I use as an overlay:
<div id="mp" style="display: none; cursor: default">
<p>.....</p>
<ul><li>A</li><li>B</li></ul>
<div>
<span class="divbutton greenbutton mp_no" style="margin-right: 1em">not now thanks</span>
<span class="divbutton greenbutton" style="margin-right: 1em">
<asp:HyperLink ID="hypView" runat="server" style="text-decoration: none" NavigateUrl="~/mp.aspx">blah</asp:HyperLink>
</span></div>
</div>
Displayed using:
$.blockUI({ message: $("#mp").html() });
It has a cancel button (see above):
...
<span class="divbutton greenbutton mp_no" style="margin-right: 1em">not now thanks</span>
...
Which closes the overlay by means of :
$('.mp_no').click(function() {
alert("close overlay");
$.unblockUI();
return false;
});
However like I say, this simply refuses to close the overlay. I've used this same technique over and over again but this time something must be wrong. I just can't spot it! Moreover... if I place a button elsewhere on the page (and outside of the overlay DIV):
<span class="divbutton greenbutton mp_no" style="margin-right: 1em">not now thanks</span>
This will fire the click event, and is exactly the same "button" markup!

jQuery 1.6.2, jQuery UI 1.8.14. I use a sequence of dialogs to present a number of wizard type interfaces to my users, but I have a problem since upgrading to these jQuery versions that certain dialogs within each of my wizards open behind the dialog overlay and I can't get to it. I can see that the dialog is ending up with a zindex of 1000, and the overlay has a zindex of 1001, so I've overridden my dialog property to be 1002, and that brings it over the overlay, but then the input fields on the dialog are still not editable. The escape key will still close the dialog.
This doesn't happen to all my dialogs, but it does happen to the same ones in my sequence of dialogs each time, depending on which wizard I choose. I only see this problem with FF 3.6 (haven't been able to try newer ones yet), but things work fine in IE 8.
