Changing The TD Height?

Sep 4, 2010

I am using a table to help align elements around a page, I would usually be using divs etc but as it is a complicated setup I have chosen to use a table. Anyway on the right hand side of the page I have a column which contains a photo, this td has its position fixed on the screen so when the user scrolls down the page only the gallery td scrolls and the rest remains where it is. However when testing on a smaller screen yesterday I realised that if my td is larger than the monitor or screen then the user cannot scroll down the fixed element. I have therefore come up with the solution of applying 'overflow: auto' to the fixed element. This will only work though if the height of the element is set to the height of the inner page. This is where my script comes in, I need to load the page then change the height of the TD dynamically so that the td can be scrolled down. This is my javascript:

HTML Code:

<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
function photoHeight() {
document.getElementById('photo').style.height=window.innerHeight - 59+'px';
}
</script>

Then obviously I have placed 'photoHeight()' into the body onload element.

JQuery :: Changing The Value Of An Input Field With Val() Is Not Changing The Posted Value?

Feb 2, 2011

I am trying to dynamically clear the value of a form input field and then submit the form.When I used $('#my_field').val('') to clear the field, it was cleared on the screen but when the form was submitted the original value of the input field was posted.My browser is FireFox and I can see using FireBug that when the field is cleared, firebug is still showing the html code with the old value. E.G. <input type="text" value="old_value" />The same situation occurred if I used $('#my_field').attr('value', '') to clear the field.The same situation occurred if I actually changed the value of the field rather than just clearing it.To work around this problem I ended up using the $('#my_field').removeAttr('value') to clear the field before it was submitted.

Changing Text With Changing Random Images?

May 7, 2009

I am a complete novice when it come to Javascript. I copied the script for displaying random images at a specific interval (from javascriptkit.com). I would appreciate knowing whether the following is possible:

The pages are based on tables, so the parts that change are all cells.

1. Can I define text instead of an image in the array? i.e. can I have the image change to say an apple in one cell and the next cell have text explaining what an apple is?

2. Would it be possible to put a countdown timer for when the image/text is going to change?

Image Changing And Changing InnerHTML With JS : Query

Jul 6, 2011

Ive got a small image of a power button and when pressed the inner section on the button changes to yellow, but when its pressed down Im also trying to get part of my H1 (main header logo title) to change to yellow.

Ive created a span with an id surrounding the letters of the H1 that I want to change, the id being : "power";

The javascript that I have come up with so far and works is as follows:

<img id="poweron" src="http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/images/power.png" alt="Power on button" onmousedown="this.src='images/poweron.png';" onmouseup="this.src='images/power.png';"/>

I understand Im not really supposed to be using inline JS, and I know Ive got to create a function for the onmousedown event to trigger changing the H1 text, so am I under the right impression that the JS so far written is redundant and will have to be re-written so thats contained within a script placed just before the closing </body> and an external script for invoking the main function ?

i have tried the following:

var pHeight = document.getElementById("artComment").scrollHeight;
document.write(pHeight);
AND:

var pHeight = document.getElementById("artComment").offsetHeight;
document.write(pHeight);

both of the above examples worked fine in firefox but not in IE 6 or 7. IE writes a zero. firefox writes the actual height (261).

Height Of A Page

Oct 28, 2005

I need to know the height of the *page,* not the viewport. So if I've
got a page that is like twice or three times the height of the viewport,
does anyone know of any way to calculate that using JS?

It's a nutty idea I suppose, but here's the backstory: I have a client
who has a site whose content is being generated by some crappy database
software he is pretty much married to. The site looks like the Web era
1994, and he wants to give it a facelift, but get this -- he doesn't
want to change the css stylesheet that the database company is supplying
him with, because everytime they issue an update to their software,
there's a new stylesheet, and he doesn't want to have to integrate their
changes into whatever stylesheet he's using. Whatever.

So I mulled this over for a while and suggested that we put the db crap
into an iframe and then surround it with a nice, well-designed margin
that matches that of the larger institution. Far from perfect, but I
thought it was a pretty good idea. Unfortunately he says the iframe
can't have a scrollbar -- it has to fit all the content of the page.

So I made the iframe really big, and his response: oh, but it has all
this ugly whitespace at the bottom.

Long story short (too late), I have to figure a way to adjust the height
of the iframe on the fly. I've got no idea if this is humanly possible.

Any clever ideas?

<img> Width Height

Apr 21, 2006

I am trying to be able to manipulate the width and height of an <img> but do
not seem to be able.

"Yes", I know the JavaScript will "not" manip anything, which is ok. I
simply do not know how to capture the width or height. Once I can do that I
can manipulate them.

Here is the HTML for the <img>
<div class="ImgMnp" id="myImg" onmouseover="imgSize('myImg','fpImg)">
<img src="images/FirePlace.jpg" width="480" height="640" id="fpImg" />
</div>

Here is the JavaScript I tried to manipulate the <img>
function imgSize(myID,myImg)
{
var myDiv= document.getElementById(myID); //get correct <div>
var myImage=document.getElementById(myImg); //get correct <img>
var myWidth=myImage.style.width; //attempt to capture width of <img>
var myHeight=myHeight.style.height; //attempt to capture height of <img>
alert("myWidth+, +myHeight"); //show if I this function works
}

Will someone please tell me what I am doing wrong.
