Create Thumbnails Other Than Just Changing The Width And Height Of The Large File?
May 17, 2010
I have an internal web app that displays some images except they are really big and the app goes super slow and I only have 12 pictures for my test. Sometimes there will be a hundred or more. So is there a way through javascript that I can create thumbnails other than just changing the width and height of the large file?

New to javascript/jquery, been trying to create a rotator which displays a large image with caption and uses next/previous button and thumbnails for control. Everything works fine but when the rotator gets to the last item i'd like it to go back to the first, and when the previous button is clicked at the first item I'd like it to go to the last.
$(document).ready(function() {
//set to zero
var x = 0;
[code]....

How can I create a popup window in a form without showing the status, menubar, location and with width of 502 and height 550?
I was doing something like this, it will popup a window, but I do not want to show the status, menubar, location, etc. The form is submitted to other site.

<input type="text" name="value" size="20">
<input type="hidden" name= "1" value="1">
</form>
Any idea?

I'm looking for a very simple image gallery solution (no lightbox or something other fance) with a large image and a x amount of thumbnails at one off the sides, where the big image change whenever another thumbnail is clicked, without page refresh. ( a fade transition would be nice)!Which Plugin, preferably as light as possible, is the most suitable for this task?

Please see URL: [URL] At the bottom of the page, I want to create nav links on these thumbnail images (NOT the large main images above them) so that each portfolio piece can go to its own page that has its own descriptive text in the left sidebar. There is no HTML for the thumbnails; they are generated via .js. Can this be done? .js file attached.
Better yet, if it's not too difficult, I would love to switch out the text with some cool .js code so all the functionality could be contained within this single page, instead of linking to individual HTML pages (like when you click another thumbnail, the text slides up and out of sight, and the new text slides up from the bottom to replace the former text) but I fear this may be over my head. I'll settle for the more primitive approach. Also, on a more minor issue, for some reason a thumbnail for the last list item does not display. You'll see my page displays 3, but the code contains 4:

As the subject suggests, I'm interested in having a "picture/information" page on my site. I want a simple list of 5 to 10 thumbnailed pictures when the page loads in which each one is stacked on the other. I would like each to expand with a bigger picture and text information about the picture via user interaction. I have two options - I don't care which one I use:
#1. Once loaded, I would like each thumbnailed picture, once clicked, to expand and show a bigger picture and text information about the picture. I wouldn't mind using this option but this option is more of a hassle and causes more clutter/less interaction.
#2. As I thought about this, I think a better option would be to expand to a bigger picture and text information using a mouse rollover instead of a click so that, once a user moves the mouse back off the bigger picture and information, it reduces back to the thumnail. This would allow for a better organized and better looking page. This effect, I would assume, is almost like text links changing color using mouse rollover.
* Which option would you suggest using?
* Is option #2 even possible?
* I would prefer using option #2.
* I've experimented with this code (however, it used option #1, not #2, and it requires clicking an entirely different button to do so): Code:

I am trying to be able to manipulate the width and height of an <img> but do
not seem to be able.
"Yes", I know the JavaScript will "not" manip anything, which is ok. I
simply do not know how to capture the width or height. Once I can do that I
can manipulate them.
Here is the HTML for the <img>
<div class="ImgMnp" id="myImg" onmouseover="imgSize('myImg','fpImg)">
<img src="images/FirePlace.jpg" width="480" height="640" id="fpImg" />
</div>
Here is the JavaScript I tried to manipulate the <img>
function imgSize(myID,myImg)
{
var myDiv= document.getElementById(myID); //get correct <div>
var myImage=document.getElementById(myImg); //get correct <img>
var myWidth=myImage.style.width; //attempt to capture width of <img>
var myHeight=myHeight.style.height; //attempt to capture height of <img>
alert("myWidth+, +myHeight"); //show if I this function works
}
Will someone please tell me what I am doing wrong.

I have the correct height and width for an image, however when I set the Javascript pop up to this height and width it does not display all of the image.
Does Javascript use different dimensions or what? And how can I set the height and width for it to compensate for Javascript's mistake?

I can't make the browser to read the style.width and style.height from the CSS. Does anyone know a fix for that, so that I don't have to use inline styles for every div?

How can I get the width and height of an object? I try
document.getElementById('tooltip').width
but it returns "undefined" in IE / Mozilla
My object is a DIV with dynamically changed "style.width" from "" to "600"
--------------------
Basically I want a DIV layer with at most 600px width
(if text inside has greater width then 600 else text width)
So, I try this:
my_object.style.width="";
if (my_object.width > 600) then my_object.style.width=600;
But as I say, my_object.width is not working

I was wondering if you can in CSS create an <img> tag with an Id? Then use that image tag in the body tag to refer to make it the background image. If you can I think I would then be able to resize the background image using DOM and javascript to fill the browser window without having to repeat the image, maybe?
I'm thinking this might work because.
1. Can't you create a style for any html or xhtml tag (element)?
2. The image tag has a height and width attribute.
3. If a tag (element) has an Id in the CSS you can control its attributes with DOM or javascript?
4. I should be able to use the Image tag by Id reference in the body tag - background attribute?

How can I find the height and width of a webpage? Say I want to make
sure someone's webpage is within an 800X600 viewing area. Width is the
most important but if I can get width, I should also be able to get
height.
I don't need to modify the page in anyway. Just get the width and
height. I can reference the page in an iframe, cfhttp (CFMX) or
something if it needs to be on my server.

I've ran into this problem more than once, there are plenty of tutorials on how to toggle/fade a hidden div that already has data placed into it, but I want to $.load() a page into an empty div ID and then toggle/fade it into view.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this or find anyone in Google trying to either. This has to be the first time I've ran into a limitation of jQuery and it isn't even something that should be such a problem.

i need the innerHeight and innerWidth of the clients browser window to be returned from a function. here is what i have however some times the value being returned is in fact greater than the browser window (only by a few pixles) i'm assuming this has something to do with 'tabs' in my browser.
function getW(){
var w;
if(document.innerWidth){ w=document.innerWidth;
} else if(document.documentElement.clientWidth){ w=document.documentElement.clientWidth;
} else if(document.body){ w=document.body.clientWidth; }
return w;
}
function getH(){
var h;
if(document.innerHeight){ h=document.innerHeight;
} else if(document.documentElement.clientHeight){ h=document.documentElement.clientHeight;
} else if(document.body){ h=document.body.clientHeight; }
return h;
}
i'm returning the value into a Math.random()*getH();
i'm using the value from that to randomly position a single character on the page.

How can I change the height and width of an element with Javascript? I have tried and so far I can only change either the width or height but not both, doing something like this…
Code:
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<script type = "text/javascript">
function changeSize(){document.getElementById('test').style.height = '200'}
[code]....
And this works fine but if I try to change both height and width it doesn’t work. Doing something like this doesn’t work
Code:
function changeSize(){document.getElementById('test').style.height = '200' width=’200’}

im using the following javascript function to popup a new window that will display the full size of thumbnail images.
However, whenever I click on an image, the full image will not appear. Only a very small window will appear. How can I alter the function below so that the full image will appear?
function popUp(URL) {
day = new Date();
id = day.getTime();
eval("page" + id + " = window.open(URL, '" + id + "', 'toolbar=0,scrollbars=0,location=0,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=0,width=100%,height=100%');");
}
